This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Pistol and Revolver Shooting, Vol. 34 Interest in pistol and revolver shooting has increased very rapidly in recent years and particularly since smokeless powder has been introduced. The revolver and the magazine pistol now constitute part of the regular equipment of army and navy officers and cavalry troops. Regulations governing practice shooting with these arms have been issued and adopted by both branches of the service and by the National Guard of the various States. In the National Rifle Association and in the various State rifle associations that have recently been organized, pistol and revolver shooting has an important place, and the matches provided are largely patronized. In the numerous civilian shooting clubs scattered throughout the country pistol and revolver shooting has become extremely popular, and in many cases the majority of the members practice more frequently with the smaller arms than with the rifle. Practice with the pistol and revolver affords training in sighting, steady holding, and pulling the trigger, which are the essential features of rifle shooting also. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Shooter's Hand-Book: Being the Treatise on Shooting From "the Rod and the Gun" Conviviality reigned at the old Hall of Oakleigh after the good old English fashion. The hills by day, and the walls by night, reverberated the sportsman's voice. As of yore, in that mansion of other days, the song was sung and the tale was told; Welcome presided; and Mirth and Modera tion - two fellows who seemed never to grow old were rarely absent. This book was released on 2018-02-07 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Instructions to Young Sportsmen, in All That Relates to Guns and Shooting Every thing here asserted has been the result of many years' trial and experience; and, therefore, all reference to other publi cations has been as much declined, as have statements from report; and it has been attempted to dilate most, on what has been the least explained by other authors. So much, indeed, has been published, by more able writers, on field sports of every description, that little remains to be said on the subject. The pursuit of game is already too well known to require much instruction. The author has, therefore, thought it far better, instead of treating too copiously on that head, to give particular directions for (what gentlemen least understand) get ting access to wild birds of every description. With regard also to guns, and the various other subjects that form the remainder of the book, he has taken up his pen with the determination of neither borrowing, without proper acknow ledgment, from other works, nor trusting to any thing from the experiments of other persons. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Complete Shot Beginning would involve the necessity of giving that and other puerile information. Nobody would be the better for a learned chapter on gun actions. In the first place, these actions are no longer patents, they are open to anyone who likes to use them, and consequently the days when one selected a gun-maker because his patent action was conceived to be the better, are long gone by. The reason is that each gun-maker can be trusted to use the best principle when he has a choice of them all, or at least the best available for the money to be expended upon its making in the gun. Ejectors are nearly in the same position but single triggers are not. I was so fortunate as to make a discovery in regard to single triggers that is now acknowledged to be of great assistance to the gun trade; the want of it had for a hundred years been the stumbling-block to the patent single triggers that had begun to trouble gun-makers in the time of the celebrated Colonel Thornton. That is referred to in its proper chapter, because single triggers now Occupy the place that formerly actions held, and at a later date ejector systems usurped, in assisting to the selection of a gun maker. Book Automatic Pistol Shooting

Download or read book Automatic Pistol Shooting written by Walter Winans and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-21 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Automatic Pistol Shooting: Together With Information on Handling the Duelling Pistol and Revolver Till quite recently, the automatic pistol had many defects, both as to balance and as to safety, chiefly in the latter respect, so that only a very careful expert could handle one without danger to the public and to himself. This has now been altered, and with safety bolts and external hammers several automatic pistols are quite safe for the use of experts. They are still very dangerous in the hands of ignorant persons; a revolver is dangerous enough in such cases but the automatic is much more so.
