Book Experiments with a Model Water Tunnel

Download or read book Experiments with a Model Water Tunnel written by Eastman Nixon Jacobs and published by . This book was released on 1930 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes a model water tunnel built in 1928 to investigate the possibility of using water tunnels for aerodynamics investigations at large scales. The model tunnel is similar to an open-throat wind tunnel, but uses water for the working fluid. Results are given of tests of the tunnel and also of some observations made with model airfoils in the tunnel to study the phenomena of cavitation. It is concluded that a water tunnel does not offer a convenient method of making aerodynamic investigations at large scales. A large diameter water tunnel would be of value chiefly for use in the study of cavitation.

Book Gas Transfer at Water Surfaces

Download or read book Gas Transfer at Water Surfaces written by W. Brutsaert and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1983-12-31 with total page 666 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The transfer across the surface of environmental waters is of interest as an important phase in the geophysical and natural biochemical cycles of numer ous substances; indeed it governs the transition, one way or the other, be tween the dissolved state in the water and the gaseous state in the atmo sphere. Especially with increasing population and industrialization, gas transfer at water surfaces has become a critical factor in the understanding of the various pathways of wastes in the environment and of their engineering management. This interfacial mass transfer is, by its very nature, highly complex. The air and the water are usually in turbulent motion, and the interface be tween them is irregular, and disturbed by waves, sometimes accompanied by breaking, spray and bubble formation. Thus the transfer involves a wide variety of physical phenomena occurring over a wide range of scales. As a consequence, scientists and engineers from diverse disciplines and problem areas, have approached the problem, often with greatly differing analytical and experimental techniques and methodologies.

Book Engineering Turbulence Modelling and Experiments 4

Download or read book Engineering Turbulence Modelling and Experiments 4 written by D. Laurence and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1999-04-14 with total page 975 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These proceedings contain the papers presented at the 4th International Symposium on Engineering Turbulence Modelling and Measurements held at Ajaccio, Corsica, France from 24-26 May 1999. It follows three previous conferences on the topic of engineering turbulence modelling and measurements. The purpose of this series of symposia is to provide a forum for presenting and discussing new developments in the area of turbulence modelling and measurements, with particular emphasis on engineering-related problems. Turbulence is still one of the key issues in tackling engineering flow problems. As powerful computers and accurate numerical methods are now available for solving the flow equations, and since engineering applications nearly always involve turbulence effects, the reliability of CFD analysis depends more and more on the performance of the turbulence models. Successful simulation of turbulence requires the understanding of the complex physical phenomena involved and suitable models for describing the turbulent momentum, heat and mass transfer. For the understanding of turbulence phenomena, experiments are indispensable, but they are equally important for providing data for the development and testing of turbulence models and hence for CFD software validation.

Book Design Analysis and Fabricate of Low Speed Water Tunnel

Download or read book Design Analysis and Fabricate of Low Speed Water Tunnel written by Ahmad Zulfadhli Mohd Khalid and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This project goal was to construct a water tunnel that can used to do the experiment to analyze the hydrodynamic behavior of submerged bodies in flowing water. A new design was proposed to overcome the problem occurred from the project done at Wilkey University several years ago where it is can reproduce condition that can be decreased the reflection of water in tunnel. In order to design a water delivery system to the tunnel and produce an adequate flow, a 0.5hp pumps and 250 liters of reservoir were used to produce a 50L/min of velocity in the tunnel. Two experiments were conducted to test the functionality of the water tunnel and also the operation for the system. From the result obtained, there is no problem to deliver the water to the tunnel but it is still need some improvement to increase the water velocity in the tunnel.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A brand-new edition of the classic guide on low-speed wind tunnel testing While great advances in theoretical and computational methods have been made in recent years, low-speed wind tunnel testing remains essential for obtaining the full range of data needed to guide detailed design decisions for many practical engineering problems. This long-awaited Third Edition of William H. Rae, Jr.'s landmark reference brings together essential information on all aspects of low-speed wind tunnel design, analysis, testing, and instrumentation in one easy-to-use resource. Written by authors who are among the most respected wind tunnel engineers in the world, this edition has been updated to address current topics and applications, and includes coverage of digital electronics, new instrumentation, video and photographic methods, pressure-sensitive paint, and liquid crystal-based measurement methods. The book is organized for quick access to topics of interest, and examines basic test techniques and objectives of modeling and testing aircraft designs in low-speed wind tunnels, as well as applications to fluid motion analysis, automobiles, marine vessels, buildings, bridges, and other structures subject to wind loading. Supplemented with real-world examples throughout, Low-Speed Wind Tunnel Testing, Third Edition is an indispensable resource for aerospace engineering students and professionals, engineers and researchers in the automotive industries, wind tunnel designers, architects, and others who need to get the most from low-speed wind tunnel technology and experiments in their work.

Book Small Scale Model Tests in Small Wind and Water Tunnels at High Incidence and Pitch Rates Volume 3 Water Tunnel HFF Data Base

Download or read book Small Scale Model Tests in Small Wind and Water Tunnels at High Incidence and Pitch Rates Volume 3 Water Tunnel HFF Data Base written by Atlee M Cunningham (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The force testing of small scale models in either a small wind tunnel or a water tunnel was investigated as an inexpensive and quick means to obtain meaningful dynamic force and moment data representative of rapidly maneuvering full-scale aircraft. Force tests of flat-plate semi-span models were conducted in the General Dynamics Aerodynamic Development Facility (ADF) which is a small 14x14 sq in. low speed wind tunnel. Oscillatory model motions up to 48 deg (peak to peak) amplitude were tested at frequencies of 1 to 3 Hz. Forces tests of flat and three-dimensional full span models were conducted in the General Dynamics Hydroflow Facility (HFF) which is a horizontal flow water tunnel with a 24x24 sq in. test section. Keywords: Aerodynamics; Unsteady flows; Vortex flows; Wind tunnel testing; Water tunnel testing. (MJM).

Book Water Tunnel Tests of Submersible Models

Download or read book Water Tunnel Tests of Submersible Models written by NIELSEN ENGINEERING AND RESEARCH INC MOUNTAIN VIEW CALIF. and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two submersible models were tested in a water/wind tunnel running in the water mode. The results of these tests were compared with data generated on larger models which were tested in the 12-foot Pressure Wind Tunnel (PWT) at NASA/Ames Research Center. It was concluded that the test medium had negligible effect on the results. Differences were found between the two sets of data only at the higher angles of attack. These were considered to be due to differences in tunnel Reynolds number. (Author).
