Book Turbulent Flows

Download or read book Turbulent Flows written by G. Biswas and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2002 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book allows readers to tackle the challenges of turbulent flow problems with confidence. It covers the fundamentals of turbulence, various modeling approaches, and experimental studies. The fundamentals section includes isotropic turbulence and anistropic turbulence, turbulent flow dynamics, free shear layers, turbulent boundary layers and plumes. The modeling section focuses on topics such as eddy viscosity models, standard K-E Models, Direct Numerical Stimulation, Large Eddy Simulation, and their applications. The measurement of turbulent fluctuations experiments in isothermal and stratified turbulent flows are explored in the experimental methods section. Special topics include modeling of near wall turbulent flows, compressible turbulent flows, and more.

Download or read book Turbulent Flows written by Stephen B. Pope and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2000-08-10 with total page 810 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a graduate text on turbulent flows, an important topic in fluid dynamics. It is up-to-date, comprehensive, designed for teaching, and is based on a course taught by the author at Cornell University for a number of years. The book consists of two parts followed by a number of appendices. Part I provides a general introduction to turbulent flows, how they behave, how they can be described quantitatively, and the fundamental physical processes involved. Part II is concerned with different approaches for modelling or simulating turbulent flows. The necessary mathematical techniques are presented in the appendices. This book is primarily intended as a graduate level text in turbulent flows for engineering students, but it may also be valuable to students in applied mathematics, physics, oceanography and atmospheric sciences, as well as researchers and practising engineers.

Book Variable Density Fluid Turbulence

Download or read book Variable Density Fluid Turbulence written by P. Chassaing and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2002-05-31 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first part aims at providing the physical and theoretical framework of the analysis of density variations in fully turbulent flows. Its scope is deliberately educational. In the second part, basic data on dynamical and scalar properties of variable density turbulent flows are presented and discussed, based on experimental data and/or results from direct numerical simulations. This part is rather concerned with a research audience. The last part is more directly devoted to an engineering audience and deals with prediction methods for turbulent flows of variable density fluid. Both first and second order, single point modeling are discussed, with special emphasis on the capability to include specific variable density / compressibility effects.

Book Numerical Solution of Turbulent Annular Swirl Flows

Download or read book Numerical Solution of Turbulent Annular Swirl Flows written by Claus J. Boerner and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The time averaged Navier-Stokes equations for quasi-steady, axisymmetric, incompressible turbulent flow were solved for an annular geometry. The effects of turbulent interactions are incorporated through the use of two apparent turbulent viscosities which are computed separately for the axial and the tangential momentum equation. Several equations are tested which link the apparent turbulent viscosity in the tangential momentum equation to the tangential velocity profile at each axial location. Best results, as measured by the agreement with experimental data, were obtained with a model that links the viscosity to the tangential velocity via the average flow angle, the wall shear velocity, and the distance of the zero shear location normal to the wall. For four different nominal flow angles at the inlet cross section, the numerical solutions were obtained. Comparisons with experimental data were possible at seven axial locations. The agreement was satisfactory to good in all cases. (Author).
