Book Development and Mixing of a Coaxial Jet in Axisymmetric Swirling Flow

Download or read book Development and Mixing of a Coaxial Jet in Axisymmetric Swirling Flow written by R. Lyane and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results of an experimental study on the developing and mixing of jet with vortex flow in cylindrical chamber are presented. The study was carried out for several diameter ratios of jet and chamber and a range of mass flows of stream and jet. Various influences of the mass flow of stream on the mixing of jet depending on the value of geometrical parameter d sub zero/D sub k are determined. (Author).

Book Factors that Enhance Jet Mixing

Download or read book Factors that Enhance Jet Mixing written by Andrew Fejér and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The main objective of the experimental study was the enhancement of mixing of jets. Three different techniques of mixing were studied: a) turbulence production at the jet interface, including the case where the jet or primary stream and secondary stream velocities are equal, b) addition of a swirl component to the jet, c) an increase in jet density. All experiments were conducted in a coflowing and ducted secondary air stream at atmospheric conditions."--P. III.

Book An Experimental Study of Swirling Jets

Download or read book An Experimental Study of Swirling Jets written by Ing Kiet Francis Toh and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mean flow properties and the instantaneous flow structures of the jets are then investigated. The introduction and increase of swirl result in a higher jet growth, decay and turbulent intensity, the formation of an off-axis axial velocity maximum and the occurrence of vortex breakdown. The swirl-induced jet growth enhancement can be categorized into three regimes: a low swirl regime in which there is a limited enhancement, a moderate swirl regime in which the enhancement scales with swirl, and a high swirl regime in which vortex breakdown dominates the process. The jet growth behavior in the high swirl regime is found to be dependent on the structure of the jet and the vortex breakdown configuration. A significant change in the flow structures and certain mean flow properties including the centerline and local maximum axial velocity decay are observed in the low and the moderate swirl regimes. These properties appear to be less sensitive to swirl in the high swirl regime after the occurrence of vortex breakdown. The effects of Reynolds number on swirling jets may not be identical to that on a non-swirling jet. The statistical characteristics measured show that low velocity occasions in the vicinity of the jet centerline start to appear at a sufficiently high degree of swirl. These occasions increase with swirl until the eventual occurrence of vortex breakdown. The statistical characteristics of jets that have undergone vortex breakdown are very similar, as they are dominated by the vortex breakdown phenomenon. The mean flow and the statistical measurements also reveal the presence of an unstable vortex breakdown that is difficult to detect using flow visualization and instantanous velocity field measurements.

Book Cellular Flows

Download or read book Cellular Flows written by Vladimir Shtern and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2018-02-08 with total page 589 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A cell, whose spatial extent is small compared with a surrounding flow, can develop inside a vortex. Such cells, often referred to as vortex breakdown bubbles, provide stable and clean flame in combustion chambers; they also reduce the lift force of delta wings. This book analyzes cells in slow and fast, one- and two-fluid flows and describes the mechanisms of cell generation: (a) minimal energy dissipation, (b) competing forces, (c) jet entrainment, and (d) swirl decay. The book explains the vortex breakdown appearance, discusses its features, and indicates means of its control. Written in acceptable, non-math-heavy format, it stands to be a useful learning tool for engineers working with combustion chambers, chemical and biological reactors, and delta-wing designs.
