Download or read book Experimental Studies of Different RCC Structures written by Dr. Ashad ullah Qureshi and published by Concepts Books Publication. This book was released on 2022-06-01 with total page 59 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Earthquakes are natural hazards under which disasters are mainly caused by damage to structures or collapse of buildings and other man-made structures. Shaking and ground rupture are the main effects created by earthquakes, principally resulting in more or less severe damage to buildings and other rigid structures. As the earth vibrates, all buildings on the ground surface will respond to that vibration in varying degrees. The horizontal ground motion action is similar to the effect of a horizontal force action on the building.
Download or read book Unsaturated Soils Experimental Studies written by Tom Schanz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2004-09-14 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These proceedings document the various papers delivered and partially presented at the International Conference “From experimental evidence towards numerical modeling of unsaturated soils,” which was held in Weimar (Germany) during 18-19 September 2003. The conference was organized under the auspices of the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE) and the National German G- technical Society (DGGT). The need to understand the behavior of unsaturated soils is becoming exclusively - sential for the geotechnical engineers and designers. In the last three decades many - searchers have made significant contribution to the understanding of the unsaturated soil mechanics. Nevertheless, application of the subject to variety of new problems still - quires our attention. This International conference is a mere attempt to unite researchers and engineers in geotechnical engineering and to discuss about the problems associated with the unsaturated soils. Doing so the objectives of these lecture notes are as follows: - to promote unsaturated soil mechanics for practical application, - to exchange experiences in experimental unsaturated soil mechanics and numerical modeling, - to discuss application of unsaturated soil mechanics to variety of problems. In other words, we could also name these two volumes as “From theory to daily pr- tice”. I would like to extend my deep sense of appreciation as the editor and the Head of the organizing committee, to many persons who have contributed either directly or indirectly to organize the International conference and to finalize these proceedings.

Download or read book Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Discrete Element Methods written by Xikui Li and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-12-01 with total page 1414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the latest advances in Discrete Element Methods (DEM) and technology. It is the proceeding of 7th International Conference on DEM which was held at Dalian University of Technology on August 1 - 4, 2016. The subject of this book are the DEM and related computational techniques such as DDA, FEM/DEM, molecular dynamics, SPH, Meshless methods, etc., which are the main computational methods for modeling discontinua. In comparison to continua which have been already studied for a long time, the research of discontinua is relatively new, but increases dramatically in recent years and has already become an important field. This book will benefit researchers and scientists from the academic fields of physics, engineering and applied mathematics, as well as from industry and national laboratories who are interested in the DEM.

Download or read book Waste and Supplementary Cementitious Materials in Concrete written by Rafat Siddique and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2018-06-05 with total page 637 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Waste and Supplementary Cementitious Materials in Concrete: Characterisation, Properties and Applications provides a state-of-the-art review of the effective and efficient use of these materials in construction. Chapters focus on a specific type of material, addressing their characterization, strength, durability and structural applications. Sections include discussions of the properties of materials, including their physical, chemical and characterization, their strength and durability, modern engineering applications, case studies, the state of codes and standards of implementation, cost considerations, and the role of materials in green and sustainable construction. The book concludes with a discussion of research needs. - Focuses on material properties and applications (as well as 'sustainability' aspects) of cementitious materials - Assembles leading researchers from diverse areas of study - Ideas for use as a 'one stop' reference for advanced postgraduate courses focusing on sustainable construction materials
Download or read book Ultra High Performance Concrete written by Caijun Shi and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-02-23 with total page 505 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) is an advanced cement-based composite material with compressive strength of over 120 MPa, high toughness, and superior durability. Since its development in the early 1990s, UHPC has attracted great interest worldwide due to its advantages. This book covers material selection and mixture design methods for developing UHPC, as well as the performance of UHPC, including fresh and hardened properties, setting and hardening, dimensional stability, static and dynamic properties, durability, long-term properties, and self-healing properties. A range of potential applications and case studies are presented to illustrate how UHPC meets requirements for lightweight, high-rise, large-span, heavy-load bearing, fast-construction, and highly durable structures in civil and construction engineering. Also introduced is a typical new concrete, seawater sea-sand UHPC, which avoids the use of freshwater and river sand in marine construction. The first book to fully cover the design, performance, and applications of UHPC, this is ideal for concrete technologists, designers, contractors, and researchers.
