Book Lectures on the Experimental Psychology of the Thought Processes Classic Reprint

Download or read book Lectures on the Experimental Psychology of the Thought Processes Classic Reprint written by Edward Bradford Titchener and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-30 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Lectures on the Experimental Psychology of the Thought-Processes I have printed the lectures as they were written for delivery at the University of Illinois, in March, 1909. In the appended notes, I have allowed myself a freedom of reference and com ment somewhat wider than before. The presence of the notes at the end of the book need not disturb the general reader, while their f ulness may prevent certain minor misunderstandings to which the Feeling and Attention has been ex posed. I have, however, made it a rule to leave out of consideration all experimental work that is concerned simply with association and repro duction, and all purely theoretical studies of the thought-consciousness. Where the dividing line is at all obscure, I have, it is true, not hesitated to transgress. Still, the psychological reader will miss much that, without this limitation of purpose, he might reasonably expect to find. This book was released on 2017-09-12 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Text-Book of Experimental Psychology In endeavouring to supply this want, I do not attempt to offer a systematic Psychology. On the contrary, I assume that the student is already familiar with the elements of general psychology.1 He may have had the opportunity of attending an introductory course of lectures on the subject which were accompanied by demonstrations, and in that case he will have observed how artificial is the line of cleavage between general and experimental psychology. Download or read book An Introduction to Experimental Psychology written by C. W. Valentine and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-12 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Introduction to Experimental Psychology: In Relation to Education The literature devoted to new researches of this nature is steadily increasing,2 and one Of the chief values of a course in experimental psychology is that the student is thus enabled to understand such literature more easily and to appreciate it better. His training also will give him greater skill in sifting the wheat from the chaff: for it must be admitted that a good deal of work which shows faulty method and immature and hasty conclusions still succeeds in getting into print. Book Critical and Experimental Studies in Psychology

Download or read book Critical and Experimental Studies in Psychology written by Madison Bentley and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-18 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Critical and Experimental Studies in Psychology: From the University of Illinois Man's earliest conception of mind appears to have been that of an intangible and inscrutable substance Which was at once an active personal agent, a private possession, and a unique source of power and authority. The more detached and less emotional accounts of mind, accounts which have put description before possession and understanding before use, arose, as a natural sequence, very much later. But the two Views once established be came enduring and persistent rivals. To this day they have con tended together.1 The earlier view has been generally represented in the doctrine of the soul, - a doctrine encouraged by philoso phy, theology, and the unreflective opinion of common sense and uncritical knowledge. The strongest support of the later view has come from the natural sciences, which have lent it both a pat tern and a methodological background. The development of the physical sciences has, it is true, laid stress upon a description of the world in terms of the transfer of energy within and between systems, - a description Which has seemed to leave mind out of account. At the same time, the insistence of these sciences upon controlled and verifiable observation of events has been carried over to the mental facts and thus has indirectly promoted a descriptive psychology of process.
