Book An Experimental Investigation of Particle Motion in a Liquid Fluidized Bed

Download or read book An Experimental Investigation of Particle Motion in a Liquid Fluidized Bed written by Charles A. Willus and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A laboratory study was made on particle motion in liquid fluidized beds. Experiments made in a bed of 4-inch inside diameter with a large length-to-diameter ratio of 24 to 1 are described. Particle motion in the bed was found to be essentially a diffusion process. Diffusion coefficients for motion in the vertical direction were measured for glass beads of .236-inch diameter at a range of average bead concentrations. Verticle diffusion was independent of radial position in the bed. The experimental findings on particle diffusion in the bed were compared to principles of diffusion of a turbulent fluid. Steady and quasi-steady patterns of particle circulation were observed in both a cylindrical bed with a length-to-diameter ratio of 5 to 1 and in beds of conical shape, and are described. (Author).

Book Multiphase Flow and Fluidization

Download or read book Multiphase Flow and Fluidization written by Dimitri Gidaspow and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 489 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Useful as a reference for engineers in industry and as an advanced level text for graduate engineering students, Multiphase Flow and Fluidization takes the reader beyond the theoretical to demonstrate how multiphase flow equations can be used to provide applied, practical, predictive solutions to industrial fluidization problems. Written to help advance progress in the emerging science of multiphase flow, this book begins with the development of the conservation laws and moves on through kinetic theory, clarifying many physical concepts (such as particulate viscosity and solids pressure) and introducing the new dependent variable--the volume fraction of the dispersed phase. Exercises at the end of each chapterare provided for further study and lead into applications not covered in the text itself. - Treats fluidization as a branch of transport phenomena - Demonstrates how to do transient, multidimensional simulation of multiphase processes - The first book to apply kinetic theory to flow of particulates - Is the only book to discuss numerical stability of multiphase equations and whether or not such equations are well-posed - Explains the origin of bubbles and the concept of critical granular flow - Presents clearly written exercises at the end of each chapter to facilitate understanding and further study

Book Fluidized Bed Reactors Processes and Operating Conditions

Download or read book Fluidized Bed Reactors Processes and Operating Conditions written by John G. Yates and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-09-27 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fluidized-bed reactor is the centerpiece of industrial fluidization processes. This book focuses on the design and operation of fluidized beds in many different industrial processes, emphasizing the rationale for choosing fluidized beds for each particular process. The book starts with a brief history of fluidization from its inception in the 1940’s. The authors present both the fluid dynamics of gas-solid fluidized beds and the extensive experimental studies of operating systems and they set them in the context of operating processes that use fluid-bed reactors. Chemical engineering students and postdocs as well as practicing engineers will find great interest in this book.

Book Applications of Fluidization to Food Processing

Download or read book Applications of Fluidization to Food Processing written by Peter G. Smith and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-15 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluidization is a technique that enables solid particles to take on some of the properties of a fluid. Despite being very widely used within the food processing industry, understanding of this important technique is often limited. Applications of Fluidization to Food Processing sets out the established theory of fluidization and relates this to food processing applications, particularly in: • Drying • Freezing • Mixing • Granulation • Fermentation This important and thorough book, written by Peter Smith, who has many years’ experience teaching and researching in food processing, is an essential tool and reference for food scientists and technologists, and engineers working within the food industry. Libraries, and research and development groups within all universities and research establishments where food science, food studies, food technology, physics and engineering are studied and taught should have copies of this useful book.

Book An Experimental Study of Solid Particle Motion in a Turbulent Liquid Pipe Flow

Download or read book An Experimental Study of Solid Particle Motion in a Turbulent Liquid Pipe Flow written by James Bradley Young and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 646 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental study of the motion of 100 micron diameter glass and stainless steel spheres in a fully developed turbulent liquid pipe flow was conducted. Furthermore, the liquid, water, was directed vertically downward through a 5.08 cm inside diameter plexiglas tube. One goal was to measure the turbulence properties of the particles in the r-$theta$ plane with a previously developed axial viewing photographic technique. Another goal was to determine the effects of the inherent inhomogeneities of turbulent pipe flow on the results. Several particle turbulence properties were measured. Radial direction Lagrangian and Eulerian particle diffusion coefficients were obtained at Reynolds numbers (based on bulk velocity and pipe diameter) ranging from 15,700 to 141,000. Radial and azimuthal direction particle turbulence intensity profiles for both particles were obtained at Re = 16,000 and 72,000. The technique also permitted the radial and azimuthal direction particle acceleration to be measured. A new phenomenon was discovered which is the result of the inhomogeneities of turbulent pipe flow. It was found that under certain conditions, the particles that diffuse to the pipe wall may get temporarily or permanently trapped there. They get trapped in a patterned manner as well. Inhomogeneities were also found to affect the measured radial direction particle concentration and average velocity profiles, but only under certain conditions.

Book Infrared Thermography for Thermo Fluid Dynamics

Download or read book Infrared Thermography for Thermo Fluid Dynamics written by Tommaso Astarita and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-08-04 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Infrared thermography is a measurement technique that enables to obtain non intrusive measurements of surface temperatures. One of the interesting features of this technique is its ability to measure a full two dimensional map of the surface temperature and for this reason it has been widely used as a flow visualization technique. Since the temperature measurements can be extremely accurate it is possible, by using a heat flux sensor, also to measure convective heat transfer coefficient distributions on a surface making the technique de facto quantitative. This book, starting from the basic theory of infrared thermography and heat flux sensor guides, both the experienced researcher and the young student, in the correct application of this powerful technique to various practical problems. A significant number of examples and applications are also examined in detail.
