Book Experimental Investigation of Meteor Burst Footprints

Download or read book Experimental Investigation of Meteor Burst Footprints written by M. Rich and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Meteor Burst Communications (MBC) provides reliable, beyond-line-of-sight data communications, but some serious throughput limitations are associated with the technology. One limitation is the finite waiting time required to send a message. This waiting time can be reduced by increasing the excess link margin, but this increases the cost and complexity of an MBC system. However, because of the limited footprint of a meteor trail, the waiting time for a system of networked stations can be reduced by spreading the stations over multiple footprints. For example, an array with station spacings of 50 km demonstrated less than one-tenth the waiting time of a single link. SRI International of Menlo Park, California, designed and operated an MBC array in the north central United States to study meteor burst spatial diversity. This paper describes the effects of spatial diversity on link throughput and describes preliminary observations of signal footprint size and shape.

Book Meteor Burst Communications

Download or read book Meteor Burst Communications written by Donald L. Schilling and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 1993-04-12 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Explores the meteor burst channel. Leading experts in the communications field cover the research, military and commercial applications of this subject. Following an introduction to the technology, early chapters describe this channel, the theory and modeling techniques used to simulate it and the use of variable data rate transmission for efficient communication. Later chapters present a method for implementing such a system using FM techniques, compare experimental results with theory, offer additional theoretical results obtained for the variable data rate techniques and discuss the improvement obtained through the use of forward error correction coding.

Book Analyzing the Physics of Radio Telescopes and Radio Astronomy

Download or read book Analyzing the Physics of Radio Telescopes and Radio Astronomy written by Yeap, Kim Ho and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2020-02-07 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the field of astrophysics, modern developments of practice are emerging in order to further understand the spectral information derived from cosmic sources. Radio telescopes are a current mode of practice used to observe these occurrences. Despite the various accommodations that this technology offers, physicists around the globe need a better understanding of the underlying physics and operational components of radio telescopes as well as an explanation of the cosmic objects that are being detected. Analyzing the Physics of Radio Telescopes and Radio Astronomy is an essential reference source that discusses the principles of the astronomical instruments involved in the construction of radio telescopes and the analysis of cosmic sources and celestial objects detected by this machinery. Featuring research on topics such as electromagnetic theory, antenna design, and geometrical optics, this book is ideally designed for astrophysicists, engineers, researchers, astronomers, students, and educators seeking coverage on the operational methods of radio telescopes and understanding the physical processes of radio astronomy.
