Book Separation of Flow

Download or read book Separation of Flow written by Paul K. Chang and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 800 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interdisciplinary and Advanced Topics in Science and Engineering, Volume 3: Separation of Flow presents the problem of the separation of fluid flow. This book provides information covering the fields of basic physical processes, analyses, and experiments concerning flow separation. Organized into 12 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the flow separation on the body surface as discusses in various classical examples. This text then examines the analytical and experimental results of the laminar boundary layer of steady, two-dimensional flows in the subsonic speed range. Other chapters consider the study of flow separation on the two-dimensional body, flow separation on three-dimensional body shape and particularly on bodies of revolution. This book discusses as well the analytical solutions of the unsteady flow separation. The final chapter deals with the purpose of separation flow control to raise efficiency or to enhance the performance of vehicles and fluid machineries involving various engineering applications. This book is a valuable resource for engineers.

Book Progress in Aeronautical Sciences

Download or read book Progress in Aeronautical Sciences written by D. Küchemann and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-07-04 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Progress in Aeronautical Sciences, Volume 5, contains six articles that belong to the field of aerodynamics. This accords well with one of the declared purposes of this series, to serve the general reader with accounts of those parts of the subject remote from his specialized interest, not only because his field of specialization is likely to change during his career but also because we are all students of one science. The first paper gives a comprehensive survey of low-speed wind-tunnels, those early tools of the aerodynamicist which seem likely to retain their importance indefinitely. The second deals with a basic feature of the separation of a laminar boundary layer from a wall in two-dimensional flow: the bubble. The third reports on the more theoretical aspects of the IUTAM Symposium Transsonicum, which afforded a reunion of almost everyone who at one time or another had contributed to our knowledge of flows of mixed type. The fourth paper is concerned with a particular aspect of the theory of transonic flows and gives an exhaustive survey of this work. The fifth paper reports on a symposium devoted to rarefied gas dynamics. The final paper presents corrections to an article on the theory of sonic bangs, published in Volume 1 of this series.

Book Heat Transfer in Subsonic Separated Flows

Download or read book Heat Transfer in Subsonic Separated Flows written by Viktor I. Terekhov and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-02-05 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the results of scientific research performed over the past two decades by the authors. The book discusses some issues of separated laminar flows that are of great practical interest for the development of new technologies using microchannel flows, where separation zones can form. Of particular interest is the complex mechanism of flow separation with superimposed high external turbulence. The challenges of finding the optimal location for the cavities and fins on heat exchange surfaces are also considered. This is an important fundamental and practical problem when creating new schemes of efficient heat exchangers in various power plants. A wide class of problems of turbulent flow in tubes with flow separation is considered. These data will be useful in engineering estimates of the thermal–hydraulic efficiency of various heat transfer intensifiers. This book focuses on the analysis of thermal characteristics of separated flows, as well as the possibility of controlling the intensity of heat exchange processes, from the point of view of both their intensification and their suppression.

Book An Experimental Study of Flow Separation Over a Flat Plate with 2D Transverse Grooves

Download or read book An Experimental Study of Flow Separation Over a Flat Plate with 2D Transverse Grooves written by Emily Jones and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nature has long been an inspiration for research in engineering. In particular, the biological surfaces of aquatic swimmers have been studied for their potential as drag reducing surfaces. The hydrodynamic benefit of riblets, or grooves embedded parallel to the flow, which appear on many aquatic biological surfaces, have been well documented and implemented in practical engineering applications. However the skin of dolphins is embedded with grooves that run perpendicular to the flow of water over their bodies. It is theorized that the transverse grooves present on dolphin skin trap vortices between them, creating a partial slip condition over the surface and inducing turbulence augmentation in the boundary layer, thus controlling boundary layer separation over the dolphin's skin. Similarly, sharks are covered with scales that are flexible at the base and capable of bristling, forming grooves running transverse to the flow. It is theorized that the scales bristle when encountering a reversing flow, thereby trapping vortices between the scales and, similarly, delaying boundary layer separation. In an attempt to test this hypothesis and study these affects, a spinning cylinder was used in a water tunnel to induce separation over a flat plate with 2 mm, rectangular transverse grooves and sinusoidal grooves of similar scaling. The results were compared to tripped, turbulent boundary layer separation occurring over a flat plate without grooves using time-resolved particle image velocimetry. The strength of the adverse pressure gradient was varied, and the observed delay in flow separation and other affects upon the boundary layer are discussed.

  • Pages : 324 pages

Download or read book Turbulent Shear Flows 3 written by L.J.S. Bradbury and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In spite of intensive efforts over many decades, the problem of turbulence remains as challenging as ever and the number of papers, books and conferences on this topic con tinues to grow. As experimental techniques and computing power have developed, the breadth of investigations into the structure and development of turbulent flows has in creased to encompass many diverse fields of application in engineering, physics, biolo gy and so on. As a consequence, it is now very difficult for a single research worker to keep in touch with the many developments that are taking place in turbulence. One of the few opportunities for obtaining some overall view of the subject arises from large international symposia on turbulence and, although they have some drawbacks, it is this opportunity that is one of their main merits. The International Symposium on Turbulent Shear Flows has now been held on three occasions and they seem to be established as a major opportunity for papers on a very diverse range of topics to be presented at a single meeting. This volume is a collec tion of papers from the third symposium that was held at the University of California, Davis from 9-11 September 1981. The papers are divided into four sections entitled Wall Flows, Scalar Transport, Recirculating Flows and Fundamentals. This collection represents about a third of the total number of papers presented.

Book Proceedings of the Fourth European Conference on Mathematics in Industry

Download or read book Proceedings of the Fourth European Conference on Mathematics in Industry written by U. Wacker and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Fourth ECMI Conference on Industrial Mathematics took place at Strobl in Aus tria, May 29-June 2, 1989. The conference was devoted to the exchange of ideas, models and methods from various fields of industrial applications of mathematics. About 140 people from 21 countries attended the meeting. The aim was to bring together peo ple from industry and from university. In this respect the organizers were only partly successful!. The participance of about 20 people from industry shows that there is still much work to be done to increase the acceptance from this side. 72 speakers presented their results as invited or contributed lectures, or in the frame of 2 minisymposia. One minisymposium was organized by Heinz W. Engl and focused on steel processing, the other one, organized by Hansjorg Wacker, dealt with chemical engineering. These proceedings consist of 56 papers. The articles within each of the sections: Invited Lectures, Minisymposium Steel Processing, Minisymposium Chemical Engi neering, and Contributed Lectures are in alphabetical order of the first author. Exept for the contributions to the minisymposia, which clearly concentrate on the corre sponding topics, it is hard to find a reasonable classification of the papers . This, we believe, is typical for industrial mathematics and underlines the vast variety of fields where mathematics could be used to support problem solving. We would like to acknowlegde the valuable work of the referees of the articles who certainly helped to improve the quality of this volume.

Book Further Developments in Turbulence Management

Download or read book Further Developments in Turbulence Management written by K. Krishna Prasad and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The thrust of modern research on turbulence in fluids is concerned with coherent structures and modelling. Riblets have been shown to reduce drag, and the papers presented in this volume tackle the main question of the mechanism responsible for this behaviour in turbulent flow. The contributions in this volume were presented at the Sixth Drag Reduction Meeting held at Eindhoven during November 1991. This volume will be a useful reference work for engineers, physicists and applied mathematicians interested in the topic of fluid turbulence.
