Book The Effect of an Arbitrary Surface temperature Variation Along a Flat Plate on the Convective Heat Transfer in an Incompressible Turbulent Boundary Layer

Download or read book The Effect of an Arbitrary Surface temperature Variation Along a Flat Plate on the Convective Heat Transfer in an Incompressible Turbulent Boundary Layer written by Morris W. Rubesin and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis was performed to determine the effects on the rates of convective heat transfer produced by arbitrary variations of the surface temperature with distance along a flat plate. The analysis was confined to the case of a low-speed turbulent boundary layer on a flat plate oriented parallel to the free-stream velocity. It was found that a continuously variable surface temperature has, in general, a smaller effect on the local convective heat transfer than does a surface-temperature discontinuity.

Book Free Convection Heat Transfer from an Inclined Heated Flat Plate in Air

Download or read book Free Convection Heat Transfer from an Inclined Heated Flat Plate in Air written by Shu Chien Yung and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "An experimental investigation has been performed to determine the free convection heat transfer from a heated flat plate in air moved from the vertical position through three inclined positions to the horizontal position. The hot surface of the plate was facing downward for the horizontal and three inclined positions. Tests were performed at plate surface temperatures from 120°F up to 404°F. Data for the plate surface temperature at about 165°F with the plate in the vertical position agrees very well with previous experimental work. This same data was used to determine a new parameter, introduced into the Pholhausen free convection boundary layer equation, to account for the angular position of the plate as it is moved from the vertical to the horizontal position. Use of this modified equation results in a convergence of all data to one normalized curve"--Abstract, leaf ii.

Download or read book Investigation of Free Convection Heat Transfer from an Inclined Flat Plate written by Phairojna Sang-Urai and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The experimental investigation was conducted to determine temperature distribution and convective heat transfer coefficients in terms of Nusselt number for an inclined heated flat plate in air. The heated surface of the aluminum flat plate was set facing upward and moved through seven positions from the vertical to the horizontal. The investigation shows that the local Nusselt number can be predicted by Kiekus's solution within 12 per cent for inclination angles from the vertical through 75° from the vertical. In the case of the vertical position, Eckert's solution gives a better prediction. For the horizontal position the results show good agreement with the equation which is recommended by McAdams, with 8 per cent"--Abstract, leaf ii.

Book Experimental Investigation of Heat Transfer Through Laminar and Turbulent Boundary Layers on a Cooled Flat Plate at a Mach Number of 2 4

Download or read book Experimental Investigation of Heat Transfer Through Laminar and Turbulent Boundary Layers on a Cooled Flat Plate at a Mach Number of 2 4 written by Ellis G. Slack and published by . This book was released on 1952 with total page 734 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wind-tunnel tests of the heat-transfer characteristics for laminar and turbulent boundary layers on a cooled flat plate were conducted at a Mach number of 2.4. Data were obtained for a Reynolds number range of 150.000 to 3,000.000 and for a surface-temperature range of -40 degrees F to 45 degrees F with recovery temperature of the order of 65 degrees F. The temperature-recovery factors agreed well with previous flat-plate reslts. The heat-transfer results were obtained with negative temperature gradients along the surface and, when related to the constant-surface-temperature case, were, in general, in good agreement with theory.

Book Numerical and Experimental Studies of Natural Convective Heat Transfer from Vertical and Inclined Narrow Flat Plates and Short Cylinders

Download or read book Numerical and Experimental Studies of Natural Convective Heat Transfer from Vertical and Inclined Narrow Flat Plates and Short Cylinders written by Abdulrahim Kalendar and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 566 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Natural convective heat transfer from flat plates and short cylinders inclined at an angle to the vertical in laminar and transition flow regions with isothermal or constant heat flux conditions have been numerically and experimentally studied. When the width of the plate is relatively small compared to its height, i.e., the plate is narrow, the heat transfer rate can be considerably greater than that predicted by these two-dimensional flow results. When the narrow plate is inclined to the vertical, pressure changes normal to the plate surface arise and these pressure changes can alter the nature and the magnitude of the edge effects. When two narrow inclined rectangular flat plates of the same size separated vertically or horizontally, the flow interaction between these heated plates can have a significant effect on the heat transfer. When relatively small square and circular cylinders with exposed top surfaces inclined to the vertical are used, the interaction of the flow over the surfaces that make up the cylinder and inclination angle have, in general, a considerable effect on the magnitude of the mean heat transfer rate and on the nature of the flow over the cylinder surfaces. In the present numerical studies it has been assumed that the fluid properties are constant except for the density change with temperature which gives rise to the buoyancy forces, this having been treated using the Boussinesq approach. The numerical solution was obtained by numerically solving the full three-dimensional form of the governing equations, these equations being written in dimensionless form. The solution was obtained using a commercial CFD code, FLUENT. Results were only obtained for a Prandtl number of 0.7; this being approximately the value of air. In the experimental studies, the average heat transfer rates from cylinders were determined by the transient method, which involves heating the model and then measuring its temperature-time variation while it cools. The average heat transfer rates from the flat plates were determined using a steady state method, which basically involved electrically heating the plate. The tests were carried out inside a large enclosure.
