Book An Experimental Investigation of Boundary Layer Transition on a Cone at Angle of Attack

Download or read book An Experimental Investigation of Boundary Layer Transition on a Cone at Angle of Attack written by A. Martellucci and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the first part of the Strategic Re-entry Technology (STREET G) task to determine the effect of asymmetric transition on static stability, an experimental investigation of the influence of angle of attack on boundary layer transition from location and shape has been conducted at AEDC Tunnel B at Mach 8. The model was a stainless steel 7.2 deg half-angle cone with three bluntness ratios. For each of the bluntness ratios, heat transfer data were obtained for four values of the free stream Reynolds number and for four angles of attack, that is, alpha = 0 deg, 1 deg, 2 deg, and 4 deg. Comparisons of the heat transfer at alpha = o deg were made with theory and good agreement resulted.

Book Boundary Layer Studies on a Spinning Cone

Download or read book Boundary Layer Studies on a Spinning Cone written by Walter B. Sturek and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental investigation of the effects of spin induced distortion of the boundary layer on a spinning 10 degree half angle cone at Mach 2, 3 and 4 is reported. The profile of the location of boundary layer transition has been determined completely about the surface of the cone model from spark shadowgraphs. These spark shadowgraphs were taken with the model mounted on an offset strut which was rolled incrementally in azimuth to reveal the entire surface of the model. The profile of the boundary layer thickness at the base of the cone has also been determined from the spark shadowgraphs. Strain gage balance measurements of Magnus and normal force were made for three significantly different boundary layer configurations and confirm the extreme sensitivity of Magnus to boundary layer configuration.

Book Effects of Wall Cooling and Angle of Attack on Boundary layer Transition on Sharp Cones at M mathematical Symbol for Infinity

Download or read book Effects of Wall Cooling and Angle of Attack on Boundary layer Transition on Sharp Cones at M mathematical Symbol for Infinity written by George G. Mateer and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tests were conducted on 5 deg and 15 deg half-angle sharp cones at wall-to-total-temperature ratios of 0.08 to 0.4, and angles of attack from 0 deg to 20 deg. The results indicate that (1) transition Reynolds numbers decrease with decreasing temperature ratio, (2) local transition Reynolds numbers decrease from the windward to the leeward side of the model, and (3) transition data on the windward ray of cones can be correlated in terms of the crossflow velocity gradient, momentum thickness Reynolds number, local Mach number, and cone half-angle.

Book Investigation of Boundary layer Transition on 10 Degree Cone in Langley 4 by 4 foot Supersonic Pressure Tunnel at Mach Numbers of 1 41 1 61 and 2 01

Download or read book Investigation of Boundary layer Transition on 10 Degree Cone in Langley 4 by 4 foot Supersonic Pressure Tunnel at Mach Numbers of 1 41 1 61 and 2 01 written by Archibald R. Sinclair and published by . This book was released on 1956 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A single-element two-dimensional-surface roughness of one layer of 1/2-inch-wide and 0.003-inch-thick cellulose tape caused a larger decrease in transition Reynolds number than was experienced in low-speed or in other supersonic wind-tunnel investigations. The parameter of comparison was the ratio of transition Reynolds nuniberfor the rough cone to that for the smooth cone for the same value of roughness height to boundary-layer displacement thickness at the roughness station.
