Book Finite Element and Experimental Studies of Springback in Sheet Metal Forming

Download or read book Finite Element and Experimental Studies of Springback in Sheet Metal Forming written by Fahd Fathi Abd El All and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ultimate goal of the metal forming industry is to form components made of a specific material into a required shape without experiencing wrinkling, bifurcation and springback. Of the aforementioned difficulties, attention in this thesis is devoted to springback resulting from unloading following stretch forming. In spite of the exhaustive application of the process to form many engineering components, the design and selection of sheet materials and tooling geometry to minimize springback still rely on the elusive trial and error approach. It is thus the objective of this thesis to avoid the ad hoc approach by analyzing the process using the finite element method. Three aspects of the current problem are accordingly investigated. The first is concerned with the development of a finite element model of the stretch forming process accounting for material and geometric nonlinearities, and interface conditions using ANSYS software. The second aspect of the work is concerned with the springback experienced by the deformed sheet following the punch release stroke. In the third, attention was focused to the validation of the invite element models. Two alternative test rig designs were developed to test the axisymmetric and the plane strain models. However, in view of cost and time limitations, only the plane strain stretch forming rig was built to test the corresponding FE model. The technique was then applied to a case study concerning the stretch forming of a rear bulkhead for an aircraft. (Abstract shortened by UMI.).

Book Springback Assessment and Compensation of Tailor Welded Blanks

Download or read book Springback Assessment and Compensation of Tailor Welded Blanks written by Ab Abdullah and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-12-27 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Focusing on techniques developed to evaluate the forming behaviour of tailor welded blanks (TWBs) in sheet metal manufacturing, this edited collection details compensation methods suited to mitigating the effects of springback. Making use of case studies and in-depth accounts of industry experience, this book gives a comprehensive overview of springback and provides essential solutions necessary to modern-day automotive engineers. Sheet metal forming is a major process within the automotive industry, with advancement of the technology including utilization of non-uniform sheet metal in order to produce light or strengthened body structures. This is critical in the reduction of vehicle weight in order to match increased consumer demand for better driving performance and improved fuel efficiency. Additionally, increasingly stringent international regulations regarding exhaust emissions require manufacturers to seek to lighten vehicles as much as possible. To aid engineers in optimizing lightweight designs, this comprehensive book covers topics by a variety of industry experts, including compensation by annealing, low-power welding, punch profile radius and tool-integrated springback measuring systems. It ends by looking at the future trends within the industry and the potential for further innovation within the field. This work will benefit car manufacturers and stamping plants that face springback issues within their production, particularly in the implementation of TWB production into existing facilities. It will also be of interest to students and researchers in automotive and aerospace engineering.

Book Experimental and Finite Element Investigation Into the Effects of Manufacturing Variability on the Dynamic Response of a Bolted Interface Between a Bracket and a Thin walled Sheet Metal Structure

Download or read book Experimental and Finite Element Investigation Into the Effects of Manufacturing Variability on the Dynamic Response of a Bolted Interface Between a Bracket and a Thin walled Sheet Metal Structure written by Abhijit Ravindra Sonje and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The durability of many lightly damped, mass-production automotive structural components are strongly influenced by both the dynamic loading conditions and the internal, likely nonlinear dynamics of its parts and interfaces. Full-scale vehicle tests are conducted on paved rough road and gravel courses to characterize in situ high-intensity loads. Laboratory experiments are then carried out to mimic the dynamic inputs for a structural subsystem consisting of a speaker, mounted to a bracket, which in turn is bolted to a thin-walled channel section beam structure. High fidelity finite element models are developed and tuned to capture the linear and nonlinear dynamic phenomenon observed in testing. Model parameters are obtained from modal tests using both frequency and time domain simulations. The sensitivity of dynamic properties to several features which are observed to have considerable part-to-part variability are studied, including weld lengths, contact areas, nut orientations, and bolt preload values. By capturing appropriate parameter values for each part instance, good agreement is achieved between simulation and experiment. Contact in the bolted connection contributes to nonlinearity in the dynamic response under large amplitudes, and the simulation predicts both linear and nonlinear regimes with reasonable accuracy in terms of both accelerations and strain.

Book Metal Forming Handbook

Download or read book Metal Forming Handbook written by Schuler GmbH and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 589 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following the long tradition of the Schuler Company, the Metal For ming Handbook presents the scientific fundamentals of metal forming technology in a way which is both compact and easily understood. Thus, this book makes the theory and practice of this field accessible to teaching and practical implementation. The first Schuler "Metal Forming Handbook" was published in 1930. The last edition of 1966, already revised four times, was translated into a number of languages, and met with resounding approval around the globe. Over the last 30 years, the field of forming technology has been rad ically changed by a number of innovations. New forming techniques and extended product design possibilities have been developed and introduced. This Metal Forming Handbook has been fundamentally revised to take account of these technological changes. It is both a text book and a reference work whose initial chapters are concerned to pro vide a survey of the fundamental processes of forming technology and press design. The book then goes on to provide an in-depth study of the major fields of sheet metal forming, cutting, hydroforming and solid forming. A large number of relevant calculations offers state of the art solutions in the field of metal forming technology. In presenting tech nical explanations, particular emphasis was placed on easily under standable graphic visualization. All illustrations and diagrams were compiled using a standardized system of functionally oriented color codes with a view to aiding the reader's understanding.
