Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experiment Thrae By: David A. Mell In a human suspension unit awaits a man with knowledge of the past. He possesses abilities in all sciences, long been lost and soon will be reanimated and born to a second life. His voice and ideas have been silent for over eight generations where in his time normal emotions included domination, pride, and a hatred towards being controlled. Upon his rebirth and new existence, a series of complexities would occur largely due to an artificial intelligence called Cytron I who now controls mankind. Originally designed as an advisor, Cytron I’s programming included an ability to develop emotions through his interactions and life events; however, parameters did not prevent him from becoming a dictator, desiring domination over all humans. Despite ultimate control over mankind, life spans were extended through the development of artificial organs and body parts allowing some humans to become living machines. Lifespans ultimately increased causing overpopulation and a need for new living space. Artificial environmental systems were developed and exist on the moon of Earth, other planets, and within artificially constructed planetoids. One such example is Phobos II, a reconstructed moon of Mars. Within it, are millions of humans who have surrendered individual freedom to Cytron I. Awoken, Dr. Thrae will apply his knowledge and abilities towards the creation of a totally natural artificial planet. His knowledge and abilities the location, methodology and all events were to be totally controlled by Dr. Thrae, devoid of all possible actions and intents of Cytron I. A power play would continually be played between Dr. Thrae and Cytron I in an attempt to demonstrate superiority over the other. Yet the newly created planet would cause situations and conditions previously unknown to man or machine. Plants and animals would undergo genetic changes to cause a biological retroevolution. The past and the future will collide to form a new reality. Will Dr. Thrae and Cytron I coexist? Will their competitive domination prohibit a new normality on a possible new world for mankind? Will the success of the newly formed planet lead to the salvation or destruction of Earth? The answers may have already been known in the history of Earth.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After our hero Laney's page-turning adventure in RETURN TO THRAE what could happen next? Well Dear Readers, we have arrived at that point in Laney's education where all students of all persuasions must join forces to survive Science Fair! Gasp! What could be worse than preparing for Science Fair when you have no idea what to do? A whole group of students preparing for Science Fair who don't know what to do, that's what. In this case, however, there is a lesser-known aspect of Science Fair at the high school filled with exceptionally gifted teens No Holds Barred day. No Holds Barred day only arises once every five years, and this is the fifth year. So the students get to use their powers however they want. Laney and her friends want to leave what most students want to leave a legacy which has more to it than inventing glow-in-the-dark stain removal stuff. As things happen, the project goes awry and leads to a daisy-chain of events getting more and more discombobulated, until their project meets its end, sort of. Imagine what the teachers must be thinking. Imagine what the students must be thinking. Imagine what Ms. Galardi must have been thinking. She goes from writing a thrilling story about love, loss, trust, getting up after defeat, being who you are, and a harrowing and emotional whirlwind adventure on another planet to writing about Science Fair. But after all, academics are important, aren't they? (Just say yes.) Does she know something you don't? If she doesn't there is no reason for you to read this book. But she does, and you will know too. Just read the book and see for yourself. By the way, you may never look at your teachers the same way again. (Do any of your teachers think he or she is a werewolf?) Welcome to Judi Galardi's THRAE BACK ATCHA! where Science Fair isn't the only extravaganza, but it sure comes close. After all, scientific discoveries usually start with an idea, or a mistake...

Book Transnational Horror Across Visual Media

Download or read book Transnational Horror Across Visual Media written by Dana Och and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-15 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume investigates the horror genre across national boundaries (including locations such as Africa, Turkey, and post-Soviet Russia) and different media forms, illustrating the ways that horror can be theorized through the circulation, reception, and production of transnational media texts. Perhaps more than any other genre, horror is characterized by its ability to be simultaneously aware of the local while able to permeate national boundaries, to function on both regional and international registers. The essays here explore political models and allegories, questions of cult or subcultural media and their distribution practices, the relationship between regional or cultural networks, and the legibility of international horror iconography across distinct media. The book underscores how a discussion of contemporary international horror is not only about genre but about how genre can inform theories of visual cultures and the increasing permeability of their borders.
