Book On the Origin of Myths in Catastrophic Experience vol 1 Preliminaries

Download or read book On the Origin of Myths in Catastrophic Experience vol 1 Preliminaries written by Marinus Anthony van der Sluijs and published by All-Round Publications. This book was released on 2019-01-01 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Creation myths around the world reveal an intricate network of recurrent motifs. Many of these are counterintuitive and not widely known, describing a time when the sky was low, the stars did not yet shine, multiple suns appeared, the moon was brighter than the sun, no land existed, deities and mortals maintained frequent contact, a 'world axis' in the form of a tree, ladder or giant man connected the earth with the sky, a devastating flood or fire ended the old order, and so forth. The present work, in multiple volumes, aims to find an origin for this cross-culturally and internally consistent body of traditions in a series of extraordinary natural events relating especially to the earth's transition from the last glacial period to the Holocene. This first volume sets the stage for the interdisciplinary hypothesis. Essential lines of research receive a historical introduction: comparative mythology, catastrophism and the study of the mythical world axis in relation to the earth's rotation. Various astronomical and meteorological interpretations that are not strictly catastrophist are explored for several types of myths about the sun, the moon and the world axis, but leave many of the most intriguing traditions unexplained. It is argued that a structural core of the worldwide mythology of 'creation and destruction', in which the cosmic axis takes pride of place, points to a specific period of dramatic natural circumstances in real prehistoric time. A new synopsis is provided of this universal mythological substrate. It emerges that the mythical world axis cannot have been based on a single object seen or imagined at one of the poles, as has usually been supposed. This surprising conclusion paves the way for the innovative geomagnetic theory proposed in volume 2.

Book Richard Avenarius Critique of Pure Experience

Download or read book Richard Avenarius Critique of Pure Experience written by David Grunwald and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2018-10-19 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Richard Avenarius (born November 19, 1843, Paris-died August 18, 1896, Zürich) was a German-Swiss philospher who formulated the radical positivist doctrine of ""empirical criticism"" or empirio-criticism. The major task of philosophy is to develop a "natural concept of the world" based on pure experience. Traditional metaphysicians believed in two categories of experience, inner and outer, and held that outer experience applies to sensory perception, which supplies raw data for the mind, and that inner experience applies to the processes that occur in the mind, such as conceptualization and abstraction. Avenarius, in his most noted work, Kritik der reinen Erfahrung, 2 volumes (1888-1900), argued that there is no distinction between inner and outer experience, but only pure experience. Avenarius produced a complete and innovative system of philosophy, aiming at investigate the laws of knowledge.

Book Experience Reason and the Crisis of the Republic Volume 1

Download or read book Experience Reason and the Crisis of the Republic Volume 1 written by Gilbert Null and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2021-09-29 with total page 499 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experience, Reason, and the Crisis of the Republic is a four-part realist polemic against nominalism, relativism, and nihilism in two volumes of two parts each. The first part of this first volume formulates (in 1st-order logic) Husserl’s realist dependence ontology of objects of experiences as the Calculus [CP] of Phenomena, defines eight types of dependence, contrasts realist to nominalist constituent ontologies and atomism and [CP] to Leonard-Goodman’s nominalist constituent ontology [LGCI] of individuals, and discusses [CP] in relation to time and classical realist ontologies. The second part of this volume uses [CP]-objects as Urelements in a class-set correlation theory [E] of intentional experiences of objects, contrasts Kant’s to Husserl’s views of experienced time and Kant’s view of noumena to Husserl’s view of phenomena as limits of experience, and argues that empirical facts are [CP]-relation complexes and finite ordinals are formal objects abstracted from events of experience.

Book Asian Development Experience Vol 3

This book was released on 2003-08-01 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As ASEAN Vision 2020 proclaims, the members of ASEAN have achieved remarkable success in economic growth, stability and poverty reduction, over the past decades. There are, however, still diverse debates as to the factors which contributed to the success, with no conclusive assessment. This volume reviews the domestic reforms effectively introduced by ASEAN members after the 1997 financial crisis and what could be done to accelerate such reforms. With the entry of the 4 new members into ASEAN, possible measures to strengthen both intra- and extra-ASEAN regional cooperation frameworks are sought so that the 10 ASEAN members can make a smooth economic and social transformation to tackle globalization and accommodate the two highly competitive giant economies, China and India. The study also seeks to identify what could be the role of Japan in promoting its economic relations with the ASEAN-10 under the ongoing framework of the WTO and the ASEAN-Plus-Three in the light of the current trend towards greater regionalism in Europe and the Americas.

Book Asian Development Experience Vol 2

Download or read book Asian Development Experience Vol 2 written by Yasutani Shimomura and published by Institute of Southeast Asian Studies. This book was released on 2004-01-19 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume investigates the missing link, the complicated realities of the relations between governance and development through case studies of ASEAN countries. Its main objective is to explore a theoretical framework to overcoming the limitations of mainstream approaches by employing case studies on decentralization, crisis management, corporate governance and foreign aid management of both public and private entities. From the beginning of the 1990s onwards, the international aid community has increasingly stressed that good governance, together with democracy and protection of basic human rights, is indispensable for sustainable economic development. The terms, however, are complex, broad, and arguable. They largely refer to discipline of government institutions and the capacity of the public sector. While a wide variety of empirical studies has been done on the relations between good governance and development, it is still unclear how the differences in governance influence development performance in a real world.

Book Experience Reason and the Crisis of the Republic Volume 2

Download or read book Experience Reason and the Crisis of the Republic Volume 2 written by Gilbert Null and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2021-09-29 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experience, Reason, and the Crisis of the Republic is a four-part realist polemic against nominalism, relativism, and nihilism in two volumes. This second volume’s philosophy of language is a noetic modal semantics of languages encrypting intentional contents of experiences and the realist metaphysic of experience and reason applied by its historical and political analysis of the 21st Century crisis of European and American politics and culture. It argues that the contemporary crisis is symptomatic of the dominance of nominalist alternatives to the realist premises of Husserl’s metaphysic of experience and reason, that our experiences of ourselves and others include values, and that there are natural rights which (unlike civil entitlements) are God-given. It uses the modal logic of experience to prove that God exists, and then designs and seeks realist sociologists to implement empirical studies of political and economic consequences of nominalist metaphysical premises since 1912.
