Book Generalized Convexity Generalized Monotonicity and Applications

Download or read book Generalized Convexity Generalized Monotonicity and Applications written by Andrew Eberhard and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-06-22 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years there is a growing interest in generalized convex fu- tions and generalized monotone mappings among the researchers of - plied mathematics and other sciences. This is due to the fact that mathematical models with these functions are more suitable to describe problems of the real world than models using conventional convex and monotone functions. Generalized convexity and monotonicity are now considered as an independent branch of applied mathematics with a wide range of applications in mechanics, economics, engineering, finance and many others. The present volume contains 20 full length papers which reflect c- rent theoretical studies of generalized convexity and monotonicity, and numerous applications in optimization, variational inequalities, equil- rium problems etc. All these papers were refereed and carefully selected from invited talks and contributed talks that were presented at the 7th International Symposium on Generalized Convexity/Monotonicity held in Hanoi, Vietnam, August 27-31, 2002. This series of Symposia is or- nized by the Working Group on Generalized Convexity (WGGC) every 3 years and aims to promote and disseminate research on the field. The WGGC (http://www.genconv.org) consists of more than 300 researchers coming from 36 countries.

Book Totally Convex Functions for Fixed Points Computation and Infinite Dimensional Optimization

Download or read book Totally Convex Functions for Fixed Points Computation and Infinite Dimensional Optimization written by D. Butnariu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this work is to present in a unified approach a series of results concerning totally convex functions on Banach spaces and their applications to building iterative algorithms for computing common fixed points of mea surable families of operators and optimization methods in infinite dimen sional settings. The notion of totally convex function was first studied by Butnariu, Censor and Reich [31] in the context of the space lRR because of its usefulness for establishing convergence of a Bregman projection method for finding common points of infinite families of closed convex sets. In this finite dimensional environment total convexity hardly differs from strict convexity. In fact, a function with closed domain in a finite dimensional Banach space is totally convex if and only if it is strictly convex. The relevancy of total convexity as a strengthened form of strict convexity becomes apparent when the Banach space on which the function is defined is infinite dimensional. In this case, total convexity is a property stronger than strict convexity but weaker than locally uniform convexity (see Section 1.3 below). The study of totally convex functions in infinite dimensional Banach spaces was started in [33] where it was shown that they are useful tools for extrapolating properties commonly known to belong to operators satisfying demanding contractivity requirements to classes of operators which are not even mildly nonexpansive.

Download or read book Convex Functions written by Jonathan M. Borwein and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-01-14 with total page 533 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Like differentiability, convexity is a natural and powerful property of functions that plays a significant role in many areas of mathematics, both pure and applied. It ties together notions from topology, algebra, geometry and analysis, and is an important tool in optimization, mathematical programming and game theory. This book, which is the product of a collaboration of over 15 years, is unique in that it focuses on convex functions themselves, rather than on convex analysis. The authors explore the various classes and their characteristics and applications, treating convex functions in both Euclidean and Banach spaces. The book can either be read sequentially for a graduate course, or dipped into by researchers and practitioners. Each chapter contains a variety of specific examples, and over 600 exercises are included, ranging in difficulty from early graduate to research level.

Book Integral Inequalities and Generalized Convexity

Download or read book Integral Inequalities and Generalized Convexity written by Shashi Kant Mishra and published by . This book was released on 2024 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The book covers several new research findings in the area of generalized convexity and integral inequalities. Integral inequalities using various type of generalized convex functions are applicable in many branches of mathematics such as mathematical analysis, fractional calculus, and discrete fractional calculus. The book contains integral inequalities of Hermite-Hadamard type, Hermite- Hadamard-Fejer type and majorization type for the generalized strongly convex functions. It presents Hermite-Hadamard type inequalities for functions defined on Time scales. Further, it provides the generalization and extensions of the concept of preinvexity for interval-valued functions and stochastic processes, and give Hermite-Hadamard type and Ostrowski type inequalities for these functions. These integral inequalities are utilized in numerous areas for the boundedness of generalized convex functions"--

Download or read book General Inequalities 6 written by Wolfgang Walter and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 507 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sixthInternational Conference on General Inequalities was held from Dec. 9 to Dec. 15, 1990, at the Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut Oberwolfach (Black Fa rest, Germany). The organizing committee was composed of W.N. Everitt (Birm ingham), L. Losonczi (Debrecen) and W. Walter (Karlsruhe). Dr. A. Kovacec ( Coimbra) served cheerfully and efficiently as secretary of the meeting. The con ference was attended by 44 participants from 20 countries. Yet again the importance of inequalities in both pure and applied mathematics was made evident from the wide range of interests of the individual participants, and from the wealth of new results announced. New inequalities were presented in the usual spread of the subject areas now expected for these meetings: Classical and functional analysis, existence and boundary value problems for both ordinary and partial differential equations, with special contributions to computer science, quantum holography and error analysis. More strongly than ever, the role played by modern electronic computers was made clear in testing out and prohing into the validity and structure of certain inequalities. Here the computer acts not only for numerical calculations of great complexity, but also in symbolic manipulation of complex finite structures. Prob lems in inequalities which even a few years ago were intractable, now fall to solution or receive direct and positive guidance as a result of computer applications. The interface between finite and infinite structures in mathematics and the versatility of modern computers is weil developed in the subject of general inequalities.
