Book Multivariate Approximation Theory

Download or read book Multivariate Approximation Theory written by E. W. Cheney and published by SIAM. This book was released on 1986-01-01 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The approximation of functions of several variables continues to be a difficult problem in scientific computing because many of the algorithms required for such problems have yet to be written. This monograph is written for a broad audience of computational mathematicians and statisticians concerned with the development of algorithms or the derivation of approximations from linear projections, of which the interpolating operators are an important example. As an aid to both researchers and students, a bibliography of more than 200 titles is included.

Book Geometric Approximation Theory

Download or read book Geometric Approximation Theory written by Alexey R. Alimov and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-03-29 with total page 523 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph provides a comprehensive introduction to the classical geometric approximation theory, emphasizing important themes related to the theory including uniqueness, stability, and existence of elements of best approximation. It presents a number of fundamental results for both these and related problems, many of which appear for the first time in monograph form. The text also discusses the interrelations between main objects of geometric approximation theory, formulating a number of auxiliary problems for demonstration. Central ideas include the problems of existence and uniqueness of elements of best approximations as well as properties of sets including subspaces of polynomials and splines, classes of rational functions, and abstract subsets of normed linear spaces. The book begins with a brief introduction to geometric approximation theory, progressing through fundamental classical ideas and results as a basis for various approximation sets, suns, and Chebyshev systems. It concludes with a review of approximation by abstract sets and related problems, presenting novel results throughout the section. This text is suitable for both theoretical and applied viewpoints and especially researchers interested in advanced aspects of the field.

Book Recent Trends in Operator Theory and Applications

Download or read book Recent Trends in Operator Theory and Applications written by Fernanda Botelho and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2019-10-04 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the workshop on Recent Trends in Operator Theory and Applications (RTOTA 2018), held from May 3–5, 2018, at the University of Memphis, Memphis, Tennessee. The articles introduce topics from operator theory to graduate students and early career researchers. Each such article provides insightful references, selection of results with articulation to modern research and recent advances in the area. Topics addressed in this volume include: generalized numerical ranges and their application to study perturbation of operators, and connections to quantum error correction; a survey of results on Toeplitz operators, and applications of Toeplitz operators to the study of reproducing kernel functions; results on the 2-local reflexivity problem of a set of operators; topics from the theory of preservers; and recent trends on the study of quotients of tensor product spaces and tensor operators. It also includes research articles that present overviews of state-of-the-art techniques from operator theory as well as applications to recent research trends and open questions. A goal of all articles is to introduce topics within operator theory to the general public.

Book Analysis on Function Spaces of Musielak Orlicz Type

Download or read book Analysis on Function Spaces of Musielak Orlicz Type written by Osvaldo Mendez and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-01-21 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analysis on Function Spaces of Musielak-Orlicz Type provides a state-of-the-art survey on the theory of function spaces of Musielak-Orlicz type. The book also offers readers a step-by-step introduction to the theory of Musielak–Orlicz spaces, and introduces associated function spaces, extending up to the current research on the topic Musielak-Orlicz spaces came under renewed interest when applications to electrorheological hydrodynamics forced the particular case of the variable exponent Lebesgue spaces on to center stage. Since then, research efforts have typically been oriented towards carrying over the results of classical analysis into the framework of variable exponent function spaces. In recent years it has been suggested that many of the fundamental results in the realm of variable exponent Lebesgue spaces depend only on the intrinsic structure of the Musielak-Orlicz function, thus opening the door for a unified theory which encompasses that of Lebesgue function spaces with variable exponent. Features Gives a self-contained, concise account of the basic theory, in such a way that even early-stage graduate students will find it useful Contains numerous applications Facilitates the unified treatment of seemingly different theoretical and applied problems Includes a number of open problems in the area

Book Making Mathematics Come to Life

Download or read book Making Mathematics Come to Life written by Oleg A. Ivanov and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2009-12-16 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ``It is difficult to define the genre of the book. It is not a problem book, nor a textbook, nor a `book for reading about mathematics'. It is most of all reminiscent of a good lecture course, from which a thoughtful student comes away with more than was actually spoken about in the lectures.'' --from the Preface by A. S. Merkurjev If you are acquainted with mathematics at least to the extent of a standard high school curriculum and like it enough to want to learn more, and if, in addition, you are prepared to do some serious work, then you should start studying this book. An understanding of the material of the book requires neither a developed ability to reason abstractly nor skill in using the refined techniques of mathematical analysis. In each chapter elementary problems are considered, accompanied by theoretical material directly related to them. There are over 300 problems in the book, most of which are intended to be solved by the reader. In those places in the book where it is natural to introduce concepts outside the high school syllabus, the corresponding definitions are given with examples. And in order to bring out the meaning of such concepts clearly, appropriate (but not too many) theorems are proved concerning them. Unfortunately, what is sometimes studied at school under the name ``mathematics'' resembles real mathematics not any closer than a plucked flower gathering dust in a herbarium or pressed between the pages of a book resembles that same flower in the meadow besprinkled with dewdrops sparkling in the light of the rising sun.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineers must make decisions regarding the distribution of expensive resources in a manner that will be economically beneficial. This problem can be realistically formulated and logically analyzed with optimization theory. This book shows engineers how to use optimization theory to solve complex problems. Unifies the large field of optimization with a few geometric principles. Covers functional analysis with a minimum of mathematics. Contains problems that relate to the applications in the book.

Book Functional Analysis Sobolev Spaces and Partial Differential Equations

Download or read book Functional Analysis Sobolev Spaces and Partial Differential Equations written by Haim Brezis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-11-02 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook is a completely revised, updated, and expanded English edition of the important Analyse fonctionnelle (1983). In addition, it contains a wealth of problems and exercises (with solutions) to guide the reader. Uniquely, this book presents in a coherent, concise and unified way the main results from functional analysis together with the main results from the theory of partial differential equations (PDEs). Although there are many books on functional analysis and many on PDEs, this is the first to cover both of these closely connected topics. Since the French book was first published, it has been translated into Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Romanian, Greek and Chinese. The English edition makes a welcome addition to this list.
