Download or read book Meet Me at the Fair A World s Fair Reader written by Celia Pearce and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Together with the Olympics, world's fairs are one of the few regular international events of sufficient scale to showcase a spectrum of sights, wonders, learning opportunities, technological advances, and new (or renewed) urban districts, and to present them all to a mass audience. Meet Me at the Fair: A World's Fair Reader breaks new ground in scholarship on world's fairs by incorporating a number of short new texts that investigate world's fairs in their multiple aspects: political, urban/architectural, anthropological/ sociological, technological, commercial, popular, and representational. Contributors come from eight different countries and represent affiliations in academia, museums and libraries, professional and architectural firms, non-profit organizations, and government regulatory agencies. In taking the measure of both the material artifacts and the larger cultural production of world's fairs, the volume presents its own phantasmagoria of disciplinary perspectives, historical periods, geographical locales, media, and messages, mirroring the microcosmic form of the world's fair itself.

Download or read book Experimental Robotics VIII written by Bruno Siciliano and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-09-05 with total page 671 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book collects papers on the state of th eart in experimental robotics. Experimental Robotics is at the core of validating robotics research for both its systems science and theoretical foundations. Because robotics experiments are carried out on physical, complex machines whose controllers are subject to uncertainty, devising meaningful experiments and collecting statistically significant results pose important and unique challenges in robotics. Robotics experiments serve as a unifying theme for robotics system science and algorithmic foundations. These observations have led to the creation of the International Symposia on Experimental Robotics. The papers of the book were presented at the 2002 International Symposium on Experimental Robotics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The documentation of the seminar 'Scales and Methodology: Verticality' is dealing with the implications of verticality for the conception of hybrid typologies. Beside just the classical skyscraper needle, the seminar was interested in exploring aspects like principles of stacking, the relation of depth in plan and building hight and structural limits and solution. Within this broader scope of questions, the selected study cases covered different aspects of the topic. More precisely there were these projects to be studied: CCTV Headquarter in Beijing, Centre Pompidou in Paris, Downtown Athletic Club in New York, Edificio Copan in Sao Paulo, NL Expo Pavillon 2000 in Hanover, Sendai Mediatheque in Sendai, Vagelos Education Center in New York and the Wyly Theater in Dallas. The students analyzed those various study cases and while in a second step they formulated a case re-study by transforming the building regarding the results of the previous analysis.
