Book Exercises in Current Economics

Download or read book Exercises in Current Economics written by Walton Hale Hamilton and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-16 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Exercises in Current Economics This book of exercises has been prepared to accompany the author's Current Economic Problems. As complementary expressions of the same conception of economics and the same method of teaching, unity and completeness are to be found only in the two volumes together. The Exercises follows the Problems, division by division, and section by section. In this volume each of the sections falls into four parts. The first gives a short statement introductory to the topic announced. These statements supplement the introductions to the divisions in the Problems, and are intended to give to the divisions the unity which the introductions to the divisions attempt to give to the treatment as a whole. The second gives, by number, a list of supplementary readings in the Problems. These are intended to show something of the many cross-currents in economic life and to indicate the intimate connection between seemingly independent problems. Since the sections bear the same titles as those in the Problems, it has seemed superfluous to enumerate the required readings. The third gives a list of questions based directly upon the readings. An attempt has been made to word them in such a way that they do not call for mere reproduction; that in answering them the student is forced to give something of his own. The fourth presents a series of problems based indirectly upon the readings. They are intended to test the student's acquisition of something more than the mere language of economics, his assimilation of readings presenting material from divergent viewpoints, and his ability to orient his thought in the face of conflicting opinions and testimony. These problems form the real test of the student's reading and study. The character of the Problems has, of course, been determined by the theory underlying the two books. There are fewer problems calling for the mere accumulation of evidence and the annihilation of fallacies than usual. Book Health Economics from Theory to Practice

Download or read book Health Economics from Theory to Practice written by Simon Eckermann and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-20 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a robust set of health economic principles and methods to inform societal decisions in relation to research, reimbursement and regulation (pricing and monitoring of performance in practice). We provide a theoretical and practical framework that navigates to avoid common biases and suboptimal outcomes observed in recent and current practice of health economic analysis, as opposed to claiming to be comprehensive in covering all methods. Our aim is to facilitate efficient health system decision making processes in research, reimbursement and regulation, which promote constrained optimisation of community outcomes from a societal perspective given resource constraints, available technology and processes of technology assessment. Importantly, this includes identifying an efficient process to maximize the potential that arises from research and pricing in relation to existing technology under uncertainty, given current evidence and associated opportunity costs of investment. Principles and methods are identified and illustrated across health promotion, prevention and palliative care settings as well as treatment settings. Health policy implications are also highlighted.

Book Manual of References and Exercises in Economics Vol 1

Download or read book Manual of References and Exercises in Economics Vol 1 written by Frank A. Fetter and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-11 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Manual of References and Exercises in Economics, Vol. 1: For Use With,, Economic Principles The literature of economics is so extensive that a complete bibliography of some single chapters of a general text would fill a book. Many of the books cited below on special topics contain elaborate special bibliographies. General texts in economies are, with rare exceptions, not included here; the student can conveniently consult them on any topic by means of the index with which each of them is provided. Large use has been made, however, of the several volumes of selected readings in economics which have appeared within the past few years and which now are to be found in most college libraries. These are cited under brief titles as follows: Materials, for Materials for the study of elementary economics, by members of the department of political economy of the University of Chicago, 1913. Readings, Bullock, for Selected readings in economics, C. J. Bullock (ed.), 1907. Readings, Hamilton, for Readings in current economic problems, W. H. Hamilton (ed.), 1914. Source Book, for Source book in Economics, F. A. Fetter (ed.), 1912. It is more than questionable whether the student of an elementary text should be required to read extensively outside in the more or less controversial literature of the subject. This is especially true of the field of the principles, covered in Volume I, where careful drill in definition and clear thinking are more to be sought than voluminous reading. Accordingly, no attempt has been made to cite the many writings that have contributed to the development of economic doctrine in its details in the last half century. The names of the authors and of their writings are to be sought by the more advanced student of theory in the voluminous special literature of the subject. Where the conception developed in the text and the grouping of materials are along unconventional lines, the references in some cases represent a somewhat different point of view from that of the text, but are valuable for their suggestiveness. In other cases preference has been given to concrete examples embodying the principles presented. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
