Book Design of Joints in Steel Structures

Download or read book Design of Joints in Steel Structures written by ECCS - European Convention for Constructional Steelwork and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-06-19 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book details the basic concepts and the design rules included in Eurocode 3 "Design of steel structures" Part 1-8 "Design of joints". Joints in composite construction are also addressed through references to Eurocode 4 "Design of composite steel and concrete structures" Part 1-1 "General rules and rules for buildings". Moreover, the relevant UK National Annexes are also taken into account. Attention has to be duly paid to the joints when designing a steel or composite structure, in terms of the global safety of the construction, and also in terms of the overall cost, including fabrication, transportation and erection. Therefore, in this book, the design of the joints themselves is widely detailed, and aspects of selection of joint configuration and integration of the joints into the analysis and the design process of the whole construction are also fully covered. Connections using mechanical fasteners, welded connections, simple joints, moment-resisting joints and lattice girder joints are considered. Various joint configurations are treated, including beam-to-column, beam-to-beam, column bases, and beam and column splice configurations, under different loading situations (axial forces, shear forces, bending moments and their combinations). The book also briefly summarises the available knowledge relating to the application of the Eurocode rules to joints under fire, fatigue, earthquake, etc., and also to joints in a structure subjected to exceptional loadings, where the risk of progressive collapse has to be mitigated. Finally, there are some worked examples, plus references to already published examples and to design tools, which will provide practical help to practitioners.

Book Stability and Ductility of Steel Structures 2019

Download or read book Stability and Ductility of Steel Structures 2019 written by František Wald and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-08-30 with total page 1373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For more than forty years the series of International Colloquia on Stability and Ductility of Steel Structures has been supported by the Structural Stability Research Council (SSRC). Its objective is to present the latest results in theoretical, numerical and experimental research in the area of stability and ductility of steel and steel-concrete composite structures. In Stability and Ductility of Steel Structures 2019, the focus is on new concepts and procedures concerning the analysis and design of steel structures and on the background, development and application of rules and recommendations either appearing in recently published Codes or Specifications and in emerging versions, all in anticipation of the new edition of Eurocodes. The series of International Colloquia on Stability and Ductility of Steel Structures started in Paris in 1972, the last five being held in: Timisoara, Romania (1999), Budapest, Hungary (2002), Lisbon, Portugal (2006), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2010) and Timisoara, Romania (2016). The 2019 edition of SDSS is organized by the Czech Technical University in Prague.

Book Flexible Dolphins

Download or read book Flexible Dolphins written by Crow and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-09-30 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Millions of breasting and mooring dolphins have been installed in inland waterways adjacent to jetties and waiting facilities for ship-to-ship transhipment or as crash barriers in commercial port areas throughout the world. A dolphin is a marine structure that is frequently installed in ports, waterways and other places related to marine traffic. Dolphins are typically located adjacent to waterfront structures such as quay walls, jetties, locks and bridge piers. The purpose of a dolphin is threefold: Allow ships to berth and moor safely and efficiently Protect waterfront structures by acting as a crash barrier and sacrificial structure Direct and guide marine traffic by acting as a lead-in dolphin and navigation aid The main objective of this handbook is to provide engineers, asset managers, suppliers, tender teams, contractors and principals with such guidance on the design and construction of flexible dolphins by collecting and describing knowledge of and experience with these flexible marine structures. This handbook is intended to prevent extensive discussions during the design and construction stages of projects involving flexible dolphins. It is part of a series of Dutch port infrastructure design recommendations that include the Quay Walls handbook and Jetties and Wharfs handbook.

Book Design of Steel Structures to Eurocodes

Download or read book Design of Steel Structures to Eurocodes written by Ioannis Vayas and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-11-23 with total page 595 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook describes the rules for the design of steel and composite building structures according to Eurocodes, covering the structure as a whole, as well as the design of individual structural components and connections. It addresses the following topics: the basis of design in the Eurocodes framework; the loads applied to building structures; the load combinations for the various limit states of design and the main steel properties and steel fabrication methods; the models and methods of structural analysis in combination with the structural imperfections and the cross-section classification according to compactness; the cross-section resistances when subjected to axial and shear forces, bending or torsional moments and to combinations of the above; component design and more specifically the design of components sensitive to instability phenomena, such as flexural, torsional and lateral-torsional buckling (a section is devoted to composite beams); the design of connections and joints executed by bolting or welding, including beam to column connections in frame structures; and alternative configurations to be considered during the conceptual design phase for various types of single or multi-storey buildings, and the design of crane supporting beams. In addition, the fabrication and erection procedures, as well as the related quality requirements and the quality control methods are extensively discussed (including the procedures for bolting, welding and surface protection). The book is supplemented by more than fifty numerical examples that explain in detail the appropriate procedures to deal with each particular problem in the design of steel structures in accordance with Eurocodes. The book is an ideal learning resource for students of structural engineering, as well as a valuable reference for practicing engineers who perform designs on basis of Eurocodes.
