Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is not uncommon to hear of people who have lost their faith as a result of suffering. At some point in our lives, we all walk through some measure of suffering-perhaps you're walking through a painful time right now. You may be wondering "Where is God in all of this?" or "Why does he feel so far away?" Or maybe there are no words at all. With sensitivity and compassion, Simon Stocks' Songs for Suffering leads readers through the Psalms in times of difficulty and despair. The Psalms are the ideal resource to keep someone in contact with God through such times of difficulty. They take pain and trouble seriously, and afford dignity to the sufferer by expressing what we feel in these times. The Psalms even allow negative responses toward God to be voiced in a safe context and take seriously God's capacity for redemption. In the Psalms, evil and its agents are real, and this allows a measured and God-centered response to those who cause suffering. By following this model and pattern of prayer-which has been the bedrock of Christian prayer for over two thousand years—you will be able to pray during all seasons of suffering and address difficult issues of faith such as despair, failure, tragedy, and fear.

Book A Shelter in the Time of Storm

Download or read book A Shelter in the Time of Storm written by Paul David Tripp and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fifty-two meditations on Psalm 27 instruct and encourage believers to worship God through the ups and downs of life. Psalm 27 is a psalm of trouble and worship, of difficulty and beauty, of the evil of people against people, and of the mercy of God. Because of its honesty about life in this fallen world, Psalm 27 speaks into the life of every believer. At the same time it places joyful and self-sacrificing worship right next to the trouble that is the psalm's background theme. This juxtaposition makes Psalm 27 unique, interesting, practical, challenging, and encouraging. A Shelter in the Time of Storm takes readers through this roller-coaster-ride of a psalm in fifty-two brief and engaging meditations. These meditations are designed to fill hearts with a patient hope that grows stronger as the trouble-spotted days go by. Reflection questions at the end of the chapter make these meditations thought-provoking and practical.

Book Forty Two Modern Day Pslams

Download or read book Forty Two Modern Day Pslams written by Gary Dale Blankenship and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-05-26 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I was drawn to the Book of Psalms, and David's forty-two entries, for the same reasons, I pray, you will be drawn to those God-inspired writings—I wanted to read something that was written by a man whom God called “A man after His own heart,” I Samuel 16. After reading David's Psalms, I discovered that most of his prayers were relatively close to the prayers that I gave God, even my unspoken words were written by King David, a man after God's own heart. As I began to be inspired by the words of this man overcome by temptation and trials, but who understood the mercy of His Loving God—his refuge, provider, and strength—I began to write this book, that was written over a 3-1/2 year-long journey; and, along that path, I discovered that King David's psalms written in the Holy Bible, and these Forty-Two Modern Day Psalms, both have a significant similarity, such a significant similarity that it has changed the way I look at life— the past, the present, and the future—and these psalms unlock all the strongholds, and all the chains of the past, and remove all obstacles from our present, and keep us on a guided tour of our destiny, this being the Holy Spirit that abides within all of us. The same Spirit that birthed out the Psalms of David, today this Spirit births out Forty-Two Modern-Day Psalms. These 42 prayers, out of 150 already written, was the Holy Spirit guiding my hand, and today I share them with you the reader. These psalms depict a man that experienced life's lowest points to discover these truths. As these psalms began to shape my life, I began to identify with David's writings. I began to be inspired to lead others to those psalms. My hopes in writing Forty-Two Modern-Day Psalms is to invite the reader to discover that no matter the circumstances, the trials, or the pain you suffer, there is hope; and that hope rest in today the very same thing it rested in long ago—God's amazing love and grace, and His mercy that even David said centuries ago, endures forever. Today, I only wish to agree with my dear friend, David, that God's mercy still endures today, and His love and kindness invites us into His presence, where we can come boldly and confidently to His throne of Grace. As David wrote and struggled upon his journey, yet staggered not at the promise, you today have an expected end of promise. I found out that despite David's folly and shortcomings, that the power of God, that was in him, to overcome thousands in battle, Goliath, today, that power remains in us to overcome our giants and our personal battles; and as all guilt, or shame and condemnation is removed, we can embrace these psalms for what they truly are—an instrument of God's love to invite us to gain knowledge, of which some is strife because it challenges the way we believe and see in our life.

Book excerpt: Walk in the footsteps of a king! King David is regarded as one of the Bible's greatest heroes for one reason: he was a sold-out worshipper. Through all of his successes, failures, and pain, David worshipped God with his whole heart. The first 30 Psalms provide a record of his prayers to God-a window into his prayers as he wrestled through every circumstance across the full spectrum of human emotion. David's example is an important model for modern-day Christians, and his words in the Psalms provide powerful language we can use in our own journey. Psalmist and worship leader Julie Meyer has spent decades helping everyday believers encounter God through Davidic worship. By declaring and singing the Psalms, Julie has discovered that she is able to access that same open Heaven as David-a spiritual dimension where we are confident that God hears us (even when Heaven seems silent), we know that He's with us (even when He feels distant), and that-whether we feel it or not-we can trust that the giant-slaying God of David is fighting on our behalf! In 30 Days of Praying the Psalms, Julie takes you on a prayer journey through 30 of David's songs, equipping you with: Templates for powerful breakthrough prayers.
