Book excerpt: My main purpose has been to follow Pallavicino in the history of the proceedings at each session, more especially when his narrative was corroborated by Paleotto. At the same time, I have freely introduced passages and reports of speeches from Father Paul, and have at all times noticed such discrepancies as seemed of real import to the reader. - Preface.

This book was released on 2004-11-18 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The European Reformation of the sixteenth century was one of the most formative periods in the history of Christian thought and remains one of the most fascinating events in Western history. The Cambridge Companion to Reformation Theology provides a comprehensive guide to the theology and theologians of the Reformation period. Each of the eighteen chapters is written by a leading authority in the field and provides an up-to-date account and analysis of the thought associated with a particular figure or movement. There are chapters focusing on lesser reformers such as Martin Bucer, and on the Catholic and Radical Reformations, as well as the major Protestant reformers. A detailed bibliography and comprehensive index allows comparison of the treatment of specific themes by different figures. This authoritative and accessible guide will appeal to students of history and literature as well as specialist theologians.
Download or read book Nicaea and Its Legacy written by Lewis Ayres and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2004-10-28 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first part of Nicaea and its Legacy offers a narrative of the fourth-century trinitarian controversy. It does not assume that the controversy begins with Arius, but with tensions among existing theological strategies. Lewis Ayres argues that, just as we cannot speak of one `Arian' theology, so we cannot speak of one `Nicene' theology either, in 325 or in 381. The second part of the book offers an account of the theological practices and assumptions within whichpro-Nicene theologians assumed their short formulae and creeds were to be understood. Ayres also argues that there is no fundamental division between eastern and western trinitarian theologies at the end of the fourth century. The last section of the book challenges modern post-Hegelian trinitarian theology toengage with Nicaea more deeply.
