Book Examining the Genetics of Mushroom Development in the Cultivated Edible Mushroom Flammulina Velutipes

Download or read book Examining the Genetics of Mushroom Development in the Cultivated Edible Mushroom Flammulina Velutipes written by Thomas M. Roehl and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flammulina velutipes is a cultivated edible mushroom with two distinct growth forms: highly pigmented and umbrella-shaped in the wild, but pale and thread-like under cultivation conditions. Recent studies using F. velutipes to study gene expression changes during mushroom development have largely ignored tissue-level differences and the normal (wild) growth form. The present study extracted and sequenced F. velutipes mRNA from four tissues (mycelium, stipe, pileus, and gills) at four growth stages (primordia, young mushrooms, mature cultivated mushrooms, and mature normal mushrooms) to assemble a transcriptome of 20,909 transcripts from 14,416 potential genes. Analyses identified 2,183 differentially expressed genes (q

Book Mushroom Biology Concise Basics And Current Developments

Download or read book Mushroom Biology Concise Basics And Current Developments written by Shu-ting Chang and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997-06-01 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The discipline of Mushroom Biology, created by the authors of this book, has now been legitimized by references in the scientific literature and by two International Conferences devoted to the subject. This book sets the parameters of Mushroom Biology in a concise manner and also emphasizes trends and points out future directions which will lead to a greater utilization of mushrooms and mushroom products. The discipline was established to bring together persons who have in common scientific or commercial interests involving mushrooms. The authors' definition of mushroom is more broad than the usual mycological definition so that macrofungi other than Basidiomycetes can be included. Mushrooms may be edible, non-edible, poisonous or medicinal species, with hypogeous or epigeous fruiting bodies, and their texture may be fleshy or non-fleshy.Many aspects of Mushroom Biology are presented, including nutritional and medicinal uses, the role of mushrooms in bioremediation, biotechnology, and in the bioconversion of waste organic materials into forms that can enter the major nutrient cycles.Basic scientific studies involving mushroom species are also considered with an emphasis on genetics and breeding.

This book was released on 2021-08-25 with total page 545 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plant breeders and geneticists are under constant pressure to sustain and expand food production by using innovative breeding strategies and introducing minor crops, which are well adapted to marginal lands, provide a source of nutrition, and have abiotic and biotic stress tolerance, to feed an ever-increasing human population. The basic concept of this book is to examine the use of innovative methods, augmenting traditional plant breeding, towards the improvement and development of new crop varieties, under the increasingly limiting environmental and cultivation factors, to achieve sustainable agricultural production and enhanced food security. Three volumes of the book series Advances in Plant Breeding Strategies were published in 2015, 2016 and 2018, respectively: Volume 1. Breeding, Biotechnology and Molecular Tools; Volume 2. Agronomic, Abiotic and Biotic Stress Traits and Volume 3. Fruits. In 2019, the following four volumes were published: Volume 4. Nut and Beverage Crops, Volume 5. Cereals, Volume 6. Book Sustainable Agriculture towards Food Security

Download or read book Sustainable Agriculture towards Food Security written by Arulbalachandran Dhanarajan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-16 with total page 383 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: World’s population is projected to reach 9.7 billion in 2050 and 11.2 billion in 2100. To meet the food demands of the exponentially increasing population, a massive food production is necessary. Agricultural production on land and aquatic systems pose negative impacts on the earth’s ecosystems. Combined effects of climate change, land degradation, cropland losses, water scarcity and species infestations are major causes for loss of agricultural yields up to 25%. Therefore, the world needs a paradigm shift in agriculture development for sustainable food production and security through green revolution and eco-friendly approaches. Hence, agriculture practices must be sustained by the ability of farm land to produce food to satisfy human needs indefinitely as well as having sustainable impacts on the broader environment. The real agricultural challenges of the future as well as for today differ according to their geopolitical and socioeconomic contexts. Therefore, sustainable agriculture must be inclusive and have adaptability and flexibility over time to respond to demands for food production. Considering all these points, this book has been prepared to address and insights to generate awareness of food security and focuses on perspectives of sustainable food production and security towards human society. The book facilitates to describes the classical and recent advancement of technologies and strategies by sustainable way through plant and animal origin including, breeding, pest management, tissue culture, transgenic techniques, bio and phytoremediation, environmental stress and resistance, plant growth enhancing microbes, bio-fertilizer and integrated approaches of food nutrition. Chapters provide a new dimension to discuss the issues, challenges and strategies of agricultural sustainability in a comprehensive manner. It aims at educating the students, advanced and budding researchers to develop novel approaches for sustainability with environmentally sound practices.
