Book Re examining Success

    Book Details:
  • Author : David Hughes
  • Publisher : Critical Publishing
  • Release : 2020-01-13
  • ISBN : 1913063127
  • Pages : 188 pages

Download or read book Re examining Success written by David Hughes and published by Critical Publishing. This book was released on 2020-01-13 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It’s time to look at how to maximise examination success for your pupils and your school in a whole new way. While the examination performance of pupils can define a school’s success, schools have been less than systematic in preparing pupils to give their optimal performance. They focus too heavily on outcomes and too lightly on inputs to the learning process which influence performance. Whole school revision strategies, if they exist, are often curriculum knowledge based, and not designed to support and challenge individual pupils effectively. This book provides the research and practical insights required to radically review and remodel exam preparation provision with a view to ensuring more pupils, particularly those that are vulnerable, can perform to their potential. It explores recent knowledge acquisition and retention strategies, looks at reviewing pedagogical approaches across the curriculum, and addresses the need to work with pupils and parents in new ways. Most importantly it takes an ethical and mentally healthy approach to looking at effective exam preparation. Individual teachers or school leaders can use the book to enhance their current provision at a personal level, while headteachers can drive more radical change by implementing the strategies and approaches at a whole school level.

Book Vocational Education and Training for a Global Economy

Download or read book Vocational Education and Training for a Global Economy written by Marc S. Tucker and published by Work and Learning. This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vocational Education and Training for a Global Economy investigates the greatly varying ways in which four countries--Singapore, Switzerland, China, and the United States--prepare young people for the twenty-first-century workplace. The book looks first at the highly successful vocational education and training (VET) systems in Singapore and Switzerland, describing them in revealing detail and accounting for the assumptions and social arrangements that account for their unique features. It then turns to the two largest--and arguably the most dynamic--nations in the world, China and the United States, and examines the differing conditions, goals, and arrangements that have affected their respective programs for preparing their citizens for present and future work. At a time when a highly competitive global economy is prompting profound changes in the workplace and in the skills required for professional success, all countries feel a heightened sense of urgency in finding ways to guide and prepare young people for work. As this book makes clear, however, the resulting preparatory systems within these four countries differ dramatically--and for a wide range of economic, cultural, and political reasons. A detailed and incisive look at VET systems in the United States and abroad, Vocational Education and Training for a Global Economy will be indispensable reading for all who are concerned with preparing youth for today's competitive and demanding modern workplace.

Book Modern Organizations of Vocational Education

Download or read book Modern Organizations of Vocational Education written by Angelo Christopher Gilli and published by University Park : Pennsylvania State University Press. This book was released on 1976 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Leaders in vocational education, according to this book, combine the fundamentals of their subject with elements of organization theory and concepts of leadership. These "blended" principles of successful vocational education are examined in Part I. The ten components of the vocational education delivery system are analyzed in Part II in the light of principles developed in Part I. Academic institutions, public and private, from secondary schools to universities, are considered, as are industrial training and governmental manpower programs. The unique aspects of each kind of organization are analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively, in terms of student enrollments, graduates' careers, faculties, curriculums, governance, financing, and relations with the community. Four developments in vocational education receive special attention. First is the universal college concept, which delays the specialized portion of a student's vocational training until he or she has accepted a specific job. Second is the dual delivery system, which gives as much emphasis to adult and continuing education as to the preparation of neophyte workers (funding via such revenue sharing devices as those of the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act of 1973 are important here.) Third is the shift in governance from state and local to regional units (a harbinger of this trend is the prime sponsor concept embodied n the CETA of 1973). Fourth is the growth of post-secondary vocational education, largely via area vocational schools and community junior colleges. Part III examines where vocational education is, advocates what it could be, and predicts what it likely will be in 1980 and beyond. Dr. Gilli's ideal model starts with the identification of "clusterable" personal goals among students; employs personalized teaching to identified occupational families and their characteristics; and utilizes skill centers to impart contracted-for skills from both academic and vocational subject matter. His forecast is guardedly optimistic; foreseeing neither a boom nor a bust in vocational education, he recommends substantial changes as a hedge against inflated criticism.

Book Enhancing Study Success in Dutch Vocational Education

Download or read book Enhancing Study Success in Dutch Vocational Education written by and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About 50 percent of all Dutch students enroll in a vocational education program. All efforts of vocational institutes are aimed at guiding students towards a diploma; yet, on average, about 28 percent of the students drop out. The lower the level of education, the higher the likelihood of unemployment (9,3% of all 15- to 25-year-old people are unemployed. When no start qualification is obtained (vocational level 2) the unemployment rate is 12,5% for this group.). Thus, students who drop out of vocational education have a higher risk of unemployment and poverty, which is a major social. Vocational institutes are aware of this social mission, and the life-changing consequences for students with these problems and are motivated to reduce the number of dropouts. Despite the abundance of dropout-related research, most of the articles are related to secondary education, high school, or college. Research on student dropout in vocational education is surprisingly scarce. There is a need for more information about the dropout decision in vocational education and the performance of dropout prediction modeling needs an improvement. Therefore, this dissertation aims to answer the following research questions: - What drivers determine student dropout in vocational education? - How can we improve early identification of dropouts? This dissertation addresses these research questions in five studies. The first three studies relate student expectations, cognitive skills and personality traits, and the differentiation skills of teachers to reduce student dropout. The final two studies use machine learning techniques to identify students at risk of dropping out and offer a systematic way to act on this.

Book On site Assessment to Identify Success Factors for Developing Vocational Education and Training Strategies at the Regional Level in Poland

Download or read book On site Assessment to Identify Success Factors for Developing Vocational Education and Training Strategies at the Regional Level in Poland written by and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to identify the main steps and actors in a successful strategy formulation, implementation and monitoring as well as systemic bottlenecks to define success factors for developing VET strategies at the regional level in Poland, with the focus on initial VET (iVET). Based on initial review of existing strategic efforts across all the regions in Poland and scoping interviews at the central level, three regions were selected for in-depth analysis: Dolnośląskie, Małopolskie, and Pomorskie. The fieldwork phase consisted of 20 semi-structured individual interviews (IDIs) conducted in each of the three selected regions. Interviewees included Regional Operational Programme Managing Authorities, representatives of local governments and central institutions at the regional level, iVET school directors and employers. Alongside examining specific strategy-development processes and regional capacities in this respect, the study investigated how regions were able to overcome systemic challenges, such as the decentralisation of managerial and financial responsibilities for iVET sector to counties (powiats). While regional authorities have financial resources of Regional Operational Programmes(ROP) at their disposal, they have a limited mandate in relation to iVET. Thus, the major dilemma facing Polish regions as they decide on strategic development of iVET in their territory and as they programme ROPs is how to achieve strategic goals with limited managerial powers over a vast majority of vocational and technical schools, and with counties and cities with county rights having political and budgetary independence from regions.

It also emphasises the importance of stakeholders taking into account the enabling and disabling environments found in a given local, regional or national context. It will be of interest to scholars of vocational training programmes in Sub-Saharan Africa and elsewhere, as well as of youth poverty and unemployment.
