The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends individuals of childbearing age receive preconception care and develop a reproductive life plan to decrease unintended pregnancies. The reproductive life plans allow individuals to set personal and reproductive goals to decide whether or not to have children and to optimize their overall health. The purpose of this study was to examine awareness, knowledge, and attitudes about family planning among California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) college students. A cross-sectional study was conducted at CSUSM between March 2019. Participants were recruited via CSUSM’s Human Participation Pool. Participation was voluntary. Participants responses were analyzed by gender. A total of 91 college students participated in the study. No statistical significance was found when analyzing by gender. However, in the overall sample, while only 16.5% reported awareness of the reproductive life plan, over 80% reported that it was “very” or “extremely” important to have after learning about it. Participants rated eating healthy (73.3%), taking multivitamins (56.7%), immunizations (81.3%), and STI screenings (59.3%) as extremely important components for preconception care. Eighty-eight percent of participants were interested in discussing with their providers how to have a safe and healthy pregnancy. Majority of the study participants identified that having a reproductive life plan as important. This study identified gaps in knowledge regarding the reproductive life plan and preconception care among college aged students. Reproductive health is important because it sets the stage for health concerns later in life and can affect the next generation. Preconception care is important for both men and women. Overall preconception care can improve pregnancy planning, spacing, preventing unintended pregnancies, and negative birth outcomes.

The specific purposes are to determine the attitude of towards the use of condoms as a device, to determine the attitude towards the use of withdrawal method as a device, to ascertain the attitude towards the use of oral contraceptive pills. Nearly half of all pregnancies in Nigeria are unintended, the highest of this instance occurs between 18-24 years of age. Four in ten of all unintended pregnancies are terminated by abortion. Sexually active adolescents aged 10-24 years of age are at the highest risk for contracting sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and while young adults aged 15-24 years represent only 25 % of the sexually active experienced population, they acquire nearly half of all new STDs. The high occurrence of unintended pregnancies and STD contraction can be prevented through contraceptive use. With contraceptives becoming increasingly easier to access, costing less, and expanding in variety or options, the question remains as to why such incidences of pregnancies and STDs are so high among the young adult age group. The CDC STD Surveillance report stated that STDs are hidden epidemics of enormous health and economic consequence in Nigeria. They are hidden because many Nigerians are reluctant to address sexual health issues in an open way and because of the biologic and social characteristics of these diseases. STDs are public health problems that lack easy solutions because they are rooted in human behavior and fundamental societal problems. Solutions to these societal issues can only begin through knowledge and discussion to explore how the adolescent population’s attitudes regarding contraceptives are affecting their use. Family planning issues are important to university aged undergraduates. Education is associated with sexual behaviours, childbearing and contraceptives use and studies show that women are more likely to postpone pregnancy. Therefore, education can be described as a dynamic activity which involves an orderly, deliberate and sustained effort to develop knowledge and skills. Formal education is a process by which the human mind develops through learning at school in stages from pre-primary through primary, secondary to tertiary (university) institution. The present socio-economic situation in Nigeria has made it obvious that the women must be given sound.

Despite family planning activities having started in the 1960s in Zambia, the contraceptive utilization rate is still unacceptably low and the unmet need for family planning among married women is high. The available family planning methods are poorly used due to several factors that include poor knowledge of each method and the perceived disapproval from husbands. Given the critical roles that Zambian men play in family decisions, men's support and involvement are essential for family planning to become more widespread. If organized family planning programmes are to reach out to men, a better understanding of their reproductive intentions is essential. In this study, the author explores the knowledge, attitude and practice of family planning among married men of Lusaka District of Zambia. The factors that contribute towards their attitude and practice have also been explored. These factors can be exploited by policy makers in order to improve family planning utilization in Zambia and other African countries.

From birth, children are learning and rely on parents and the other caregivers in their lives to protect and care for them. The impact of parents may never be greater than during the earliest years of life, when a child's brain is rapidly developing and when nearly all of her or his experiences are created and shaped by parents and the family environment. Parents help children build and refine their knowledge and skills, charting a trajectory for their health and well-being during childhood and beyond. The experience of parenting also impacts parents themselves. For instance, parenting can enrich and give focus to parents' lives; generate stress or calm; and create any number of emotions, including feelings of happiness, sadness, fulfillment, and anger. Parenting of young children today takes place in the context of significant ongoing developments. These include: a rapidly growing body of science on early childhood, increases in funding for programs and services for families, changing demographics of the U.S. population, and greater diversity of family structure. Additionally, parenting is increasingly being shaped by technology and increased access to information about parenting. Parenting Matters identifies parenting knowledge, attitudes, and practices associated with positive developmental outcomes in children ages 0-8; universal/preventive and targeted strategies used in a variety of settings that have been effective with parents of young children and that support the identified knowledge, attitudes, and practices; and barriers to and facilitators for parents' use of practices that lead to healthy child outcomes as well as their participation in effective programs and services. This report makes recommendations directed at an array of stakeholders, for promoting the wide-scale adoption of effective programs and services for parents and on areas that warrant further research to inform policy and practice. It is meant to serve as a roadmap for the future of parenting policy, research, and practice in the United States.

Other chapters offer detailed guidance on the facilities equipment and drugs needed for abortion care on the training and supervision of staff and on ways to overcome several obstacles that make it difficult for women in remote rural areas to receive timely care.

Preconception health is a set of interventions that detect and change biomedical, behavioral, and social risks to a man and woman's health and future pregnancies. One essential component in preconception health is to improve the knowledge, attitudes and behaviors of men and women related to proper health management before conception. This study follows a univariate descriptive research design using a convenience sampling of 64 university students. This study demonstrated 5 key findings: (a) attitudes towards preconception health is necessary when planning a pregnancy, using birth control is fairly easy and safe; (b) partners and friends have an influence on confidence in using preconception counseling, however, only the partner had an influence on attitude towards pregnancy prevention; (c) a participant's belief in using birth control every time he has sex is higher when his partner takes birth control more seriously; (d) there were no significant difference between attitudes and behaviors among racial groups; and (e) the older the participants, the more negative attitudes they had towards preconception health.
