Book The New Examination System GCSE

Download or read book The New Examination System GCSE written by Walter Roy and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-17 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reform of the public examination system for sixteen-year-olds presented a considerable challenge to secondary schools. The new General Certification of Secondary Education, introduced in 1988, was more than a continuation of the G.C.E. ‘O’ level and C.S.E. examinations at the time. The introduction of national criteria by the Department of Education, the part played by the Secondary Schools Examination Council, the emergence of new examining bodies were new dimensions faced by schools accustomed to exercising considerable autonomy in designing a curriculum. How far would the new examination reflect what was actually taught in our classrooms? What were its new features? Which pupils would be entered, and with what prospect of success? Above all, how would schools meet a tight time schedule, which required study of new syllabuses to be ready by 1986 for the first examinations held in 1988? Originally published in 1986 this book was intended to answer some of these questions and provide an up-to-date picture of the present state of the examination world, with indications of future developments in the vital years ahead. It aimed to assist those immediately and urgently concerned with implementing this far-reaching educational reform. Today it can be considered in its historical context.

Book Understanding Art Education

Download or read book Understanding Art Education written by Nicholas Addison and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2010-01-04 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is distinctive about art and design as a subject in secondary schools? What contribution does it make to the wider curriculum? How can art and design develop the agency of young people? Understanding Art Education examines the theory and practice of helping young people learn in and beyond the secondary classroom. It provides guidance and stimulation for ways of thinking about art and design when preparing to teach and provides a framework within which teachers can locate their own experiences and beliefs. Designed to complement the core textbook Learning to Teach Art and Design in the Secondary School, which offers pragmatic approaches for trainee and newly-qualified teachers, this book suggests ways in which art and design teachers can engage reflexively with their continuing practice. Experts in the field explore: The histories of art and design education and their relationship to wider social and cultural developments Creativity as a foundation for learning Engaging with contemporary practice in partnership with external agencies The role of assessment in evaluating creative and collaborative practices Interdisciplinary approaches to art and design Developing dialogue as a means to address citizenship and global issues in art and design education. Understanding Art Education will be of interest to all students and practising teachers, particularly those studying at M Level, as well as teacher educators, and researchers who wish to reflect on their identity as an artist and teacher, and the ways in which the subject can inform and contribute to education and society more widely.

Book Artist Teacher Practice and the Expectation of an Aesthetic Life

Download or read book Artist Teacher Practice and the Expectation of an Aesthetic Life written by Carol Wild and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-07-08 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores why and how the personal creative practice of arts teachers in school matters. It responds to ethnographic research that considers specific works-of-art created by teachers within the context of their classrooms. Through a classroom-based ethnographic investigation, the book proposes that the potential impact of artist-teacher practice in the classroom can only be understood in relation to the flows of power and policy that concurrently shape the classroom. It shows how artist-teacher practice functions as a creative practice of freedom tending to the present and future aesthetic life of the classroom, countering the effects of neoliberal schooling and austerity politics. The book questions what the artist-teacher can produce within that context. Through the unique focus on artist-teacher practice, the book explores the changing nature of the classroom and the social and political dimensions of the school. It will be key reading for researchers and postgraduate students of arts education, critical pedagogy, teacher identity and aesthetics. It will also be of interest to art and design educators.

Book Space Place and Inclusive Learning

Download or read book Space Place and Inclusive Learning written by Judy Hemingway and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-08 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection explores ways in which theories of space and place can be used in understanding processes of exclusion and inclusion in education. The contributions foreground how the ‘spatial turn’ and geographical knowledges can inform: debates on the relationships between learning, space and place understandings of the ways in which space and place affect education and learning ‘familiar’ research agendas through the application of conceptual perspectives from different disciplines The ten chapters which make up this book are by contributors from Australia, Italy and the United Kingdom who draw, in very different ways, on spatial theory as a means of exploring processes of inclusion and exclusion in education. Each one of the authors not only seeks to challenge growing orthodoxies in their respective field but is interested in cross-disciplinarity and spatial theory in education. This book provides key readings for experienced and beginning teachers studying for bachelors, masters and research degrees or professional qualifications. It will be particularly useful to equality and diversity post-holders, lecturers, researchers and policy makers working in all education establishments which take issues of inclusion seriously. The international content of the diverse papers in Space, Place and Inclusive Learning will be of interest not only to those practising in the United Kingdom but to educationists working in other countries who seek to understand how space and place modulate opportunities for inclusion. This book was originally published as a special issue of the International Journal of Inclusive Education.
