Book Locational Analysis of Public Facilities

Download or read book Locational Analysis of Public Facilities written by Jacques-François Thisse and published by North Holland. This book was released on 1983 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concern of economists and location theorists for the problem of public facility location is growing rapidly. The present collection of essays aims to provide an overview of the problem both from the perspective of economic theory and operations research. A study of some basic ingredients of a public space theory and one on the main tools for spatial decision-making are offered. This is reflected in the content of the book, which is divided into two parts. The first part deals with the theory of local public goods and with public decision-making procedures in the spatial context. A survey of the current literature on local public goods is proposed and contributed papers follow which are devoted to particular aspects or to a critical discussion of the main approaches. Voting procedures in a spatial context are reviewed and extended. Then follows an application of planning theory to public goods in space. The second part is relative to the operational analysis of locational decisions in the public sector. The major models and methods are reviewed; their computational efficiency is reported on and some of their fundamental properties are discussed. Location-allocation models are analyzed and criticized from the welfare economics standpoint and some suggestions are made for future research. The book addresses a large audience, including economists, regional scientists, operations researchers and geographers interested in the theory of public space and spatial planning.

Book The Politics of Capital Investment

Download or read book The Politics of Capital Investment written by Carolyn T. Adams and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 1988-11-02 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines both the politics and products of the public investment process in one of America's largest cities. It broadens the scope of contemporary debates on the political economy of urban development to include not only large-scale redevelopment projects, but also neighborhood facilities such as schools, parks, and libraries. Showing the share of investments that went into Philadelphia's downtown versus its residential neighborhoods from 1950 to 1980, the author challenges the widely held view that public investment patterns simply reflect political pressures from pro-development groups. Instead she shows that a city's decision to build often hinges on the availability and the sources of investment capital.

The papers in this conference were collected in a proceedings book entitled: Proceedings of the second edition of the International Multi-Disciplinary Conference Theme: “Integrated Sciences and Technologies” (IMDC-IST-2021). The presentation of such a multi-discipline conference provides a lot of exciting insights and new understanding on recent issues in terms of Green Energy, Digital Health, Blended Learning, Big Data, Meta-material, Artificial-Intelligence powered applications, Cognitive Communications, Image Processing, Health Technologies, 5G Communications. Referring to the argument, this conference would serve as a valuable reference for future relevant research activities. The committee acknowledges that the success of this conference are closely intertwined by the contributions from various stakeholders. As being such, we would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to the keynote speakers, invited speakers, paper presenters, and participants for their enthusiastic support in joining the second edition of the International Multi-Disciplinary Conference Theme: “Integrated Sciences and Technologies” (IMDC-IST-2021). We are convinced that the contents of the study from various papers are not only encouraged productive discussion among presenters and participants but also motivate further research in the relevant subject. We appreciate for your enthusiasm to attend our conference and share your knowledge and experience. Your input was important in ensuring the success of our conference. Finally, we hope that this conference serves as a forum for learning in building togetherness and academic networks. Therefore, we expect to see you all at the next IMDC-IST.

Book Research on the Balance of Educational Resources Allocation and Spatial Layout

Download or read book Research on the Balance of Educational Resources Allocation and Spatial Layout written by Li Ran and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-09-22 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on the spatial perspective, this book takes the urban area of Xi'an, China, as the main research region and studies the balance of resource allocation, focusing on educational resources and school layout. The author constructs a mathematical model to measure the level and types of resource allocation and regional differences in primary schools, and uses GIS spatial analysis to explore the efficiency and fairness of school spatial layout. The book suggests a better way for the balanced development of basic education in Xi'an city. It also provides theoretical foundations, analytical methods and empirical support for the study of balanced public resource management in public service, urban planning and urban geography. This book is suitable for students and scholars of tourism management, regional planning, facilities and urban management, and those interested in resource allocation in Chinese urban areas in general.

Book Geospatial Analysis and Modelling of Urban Structure and Dynamics

Download or read book Geospatial Analysis and Modelling of Urban Structure and Dynamics written by Bin Jiang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-06-16 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Coming of Age: Geospatial Analysis and Modelling in the Early Twenty First Century Forty years ago when spatial analysis first emerged as a distinct theme within geography’s quantitative revolution, the focus was largely on consistent methods for measuring spatial correlation. The concept of spatial au- correlation took pride of place, mirroring concerns in time-series analysis about similar kinds of dependence known to distort the standard probability theory used to derive appropriate statistics. Early applications of spatial correlation tended to reflect geographical patterns expressed as points. The perspective taken on such analytical thinking was founded on induction, the search for pattern in data with a view to suggesting appropriate hypotheses which could subsequently be tested. In parallel but using very different techniques came the development of a more deductive style of analysis based on modelling and thence simulation. Here the focus was on translating prior theory into forms for generating testable predictions whose outcomes could be compared with observations about some system or phenomenon of interest. In the intervening years, spatial analysis has broadened to embrace both inductive and deductive approaches, often combining both in different mixes for the variety of problems to which it is now applied.
