Book Nonlinear Oscillations of a Maxwellian Plasma

Download or read book Nonlinear Oscillations of a Maxwellian Plasma written by Hari K. Sen and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exact non-linear wave solutions are obtained for waves stationary in a uniformly moving frame for the case of a Maxwellian electron plasma in a uniform ion background. It is found that there are no waves below a minimum wave velocity; anharmonic waves develop above the critical velocity, but only up to a maximum amplitude, depending on the wave velocity; frequency amplitude relations indicate that small amplitude linearized theory is not a good approximation, except for large wave velocities; and in the limit of zero amplitude, twice the frequency of oscillation given by linearized theory for any wave velocity is obtained. Book Non Linear Theory and Fluctuations

Download or read book Non Linear Theory and Fluctuations written by A. I. Akhiezer and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2017-03-22 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plasma Electrodynamics, Volume 2: Non-Linear Theory and Fluctuations deals with the theory of nonlinear waves in a collisionless plasma, including the quasilinear theory, the theory of plasma turbulence, and the theory of electromagnetic fluctuations in a plasma. Topics covered range from nonlinear high-frequency waves in a cold plasma to the theory of plasma oscillations in the quasilinear approximation. Nonlinear wave-particle interactions are also discussed, along with scattering and transformation of waves in a plasma. Comprised of six chapters, this volume begins with a study of nonlinear waves in a collisionless plasma, focusing on nonlinear high-frequency waves in a cold plasma; Langmuir waves in a non-relativistic plasma; and longitudinal, transverse, and coupled longitudinal-transverse waves in a relativistic plasma. After expounding on the quasilinear theory, which describes the effects of the first approximation in terms of the plasma wave energy, the nonlinear interaction of waves and particles is considered. The last three chapters explore the theory of electromagnetic fluctuations in a plasma; the theory of scattering processes and the transformation of waves in a plasma; and the scattering of charged particles in a plasma. The polarization energy losses when charged particles move in a plasma are calculated. This book will be of interest to physicists.

Book The Frequency of Nonlinear Plasma Oscillations

Download or read book The Frequency of Nonlinear Plasma Oscillations written by H. Derfler and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The frequency of plane standing waves of electrons moving through a background of infinitely heavy ions is strictly independent of amplitue as long as the electron velocity is a unique function of position. This result is contrary to those presented in recent publications by S. Amer, J. Electronics and Control, 5:105-13, 158 and L. Gold, J. Electronics and Control, 6:548-549, 1959. The frequencies of spherical and cylindicl plsma oscillations, however, do depend upon the amplitude of the oscillation. AsA RESULT, ANY PHASE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ELECTRONS EVENTUALLY WILL BE DESTROYED AND THE ELECTRON VELOCIY BECOMES MULTIVALUED. Therefore steady free oscillations do not persist even in a cold plasma. (Author).

Book Methods in Nonlinear Plasma Theory

Download or read book Methods in Nonlinear Plasma Theory written by Ronald Davidson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Methods in Nonlinear Plasma Theory is from lectures given in graduate classes in both University of Maryland and University of California at Berkeley. To be able to understand fully the contents in this book, the reader is assumed to be a graduate student with background of classical physics and linear plasma waves and instabilities. This text is divided into two major parts. Part I deals with the coherent nonlinear phenomena, while Part II discusses the turbulent nonlinear phenomena. Six chapters comprise Part I, where basic equations and methods are described and discussed. Some of these methods are Vlasov-Maxwell equations and Korteweg-de Vries equation. Part II meanwhile has eight chapters that discuss frameworks and theories for weak plasma turbulence. Specifically, the weak turbulence theory is presented as it is applied to electromagnetic wave-particle interactions, nonlinear wave-wave interactions, and nonlinear wave-particle interactions. This book is a useful reference for students and researchers in the study of classical physics and plasma theory.

Book Nonlinear Theory of Plasma Oscillations

Download or read book Nonlinear Theory of Plasma Oscillations written by Stanford University. Microwave Laboratory and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The nonlinear properties of electrostatic waves in a uniform, zero- temperature plasma free from magnetic field is investigated by two independent perturbation procedures. The first of these is the derivative-expansion technique, '' applied to the Lagrangian-variable formalism. The second is a canonical-transformation procedure based on a hamiltonian description. Both procedures lead to the same formula for the dominant (four-wave) interaction process. If the spectrum is one-dimensional, the wave interaction vanishes. In general, the effect of wave interactions may be divided into coherent'' and incoherent'' contributions. The former leads to a frequency displacement that may be characterized by a dispersion relation. This is evaluated for a test wave in a thermally excited plasma and found to be of the standard form.

Book Lectures on Non linear Plasma Kinetics

Download or read book Lectures on Non linear Plasma Kinetics written by Vadim Nikolaevich T︠S︡ytovich and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lectures on Non-linear Plasma Kinetics is an introduction to modern non-linear plasma physics, showing how many of the techniques of modern non-linear physics find applications in plasma physics and how, in turn, the results of this research find applications in astrophysics. Emphasis is given to explaining the physics of nonlinear processes and the radical change of cross sections by collective effects. The author discusses new non-linear phenomena involving the excitation of coherent non-linear structures and the dynamics of their random motions in relation to new self-organisation processes. He also gives a detailed description of applications of the general theory to various research fields, including the interaction of powerful radiation with matter, collective laser particle accelerators, controlled thermonuclear research, space physics, solar physics, and astrophysics.
