Book The Letters of an Unexpected Mystic

Download or read book The Letters of an Unexpected Mystic written by Robert D. Flanagan and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2022-07-20 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The apostle Peter is a pillar of the church whose writing has been overlooked until recently when scholarship remedied this gap, significantly elevating Peter’s letters. However, one critical area has been omitted. Within the Petrine writing is a robust, empowered, and beautiful mystical theology, which makes Peter an unexpected but vital Christian mystic. In exploring his love of artwork, German theologian and priest Romano Guardini developed the Threefold Seeing, which has been brought to light by Yvonne Dohna Schlobitten of the Pontificate Gregorian University. His unique method of viewing the artist, artwork, and observer develops a way of encountering the world and word. Instead of looking at the world or the biblical text through separate vantage points, the Threefold Seeing integrates all disciplines under greater view of God, the artist of all creation. The Letters of an Unexpected Mystic employs Guardini’s Threefold Seeing to encounter the mystic Peter and the Petrine mystical theology. The result is a book that provides its readers with a means to become the Christian Karl Rahner wrote about in 1971: “The devout Christian of the future will either be a ‘mystic,’ one who has ‘experienced’ something, or he will cease to be anything at all.”

Book excerpt: "The Mystic Christ is an ancient tale of mystic union, salvation, and enlightenment. It is the careful uncovering of a lost treasure of immeasurable value, long buried in the suffocating darkness of conventional orthodoxy on one side, and blind fundamentalist extremism on the other. From the viewpoint of the world's mystical religious traditions, the brilliant light of the Master's way is revealed as a penetrating radical non-duality unifying all people and all of life. His path to this all-embracing unity is the spiritual practice of pure selfless love. Love God intensely, love our neighbor as our own Self, bless those that curse us, and pray for those that mistreat us. Love has been lost, becoming nothing more than a word in the dictionary and, yet, it remains the foundation of Jesus' message."

Download or read book The Path of the Mystic written by N. N. Wilson and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-08-01 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A mystic is not a mysterious person! A mystic is a son of God who has come to the place where he understands that God is his very life. Are you aware that right within you lies the very source of all creation? If you've come to the place where you are tired of the prayers of pastors that yield no result and the prophecies of prophets that never come to pass, then you are truly ready for the manifestation of the Divine life that you are. Jesus Christ gave us apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers to build us in the knowledge of the Son of God so that we become mature sons, attaining to the full measure of the fullness of Christ. He sent me to tell you the truth that you are the full depository of the divine life; that what you are finding is what is finding; and that you are the very fulfilment of God. The Path of the Mystic unveils the inward journey to the blessed reality that God is in you and redirects your focus away from everything the world is presenting to that which is seated within you. The mystical path is found by the very few who are hungry and searching for the ultimate reality as it is written: "Because straight is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it!" God is the uncreated Life that lies within you. As you walk in this path, you become a living source as you rise to the dimension of hearing the still small voice within you. Every mystic rises to the dimension where he/she will say it is either God is a liar or God is truth. N. N. Wilson has been sent to take the church from the written letter of the pages of the Bible to living reality; so that what you hear as the word of life, you can live it and see it. In this book you will find the path of the mystic. This path is not outside but within you!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Conrad Rudolph studies and reconstructs Hugh of Saint Victor's forty-two-page written work, The Mystic Ark, which describes the medieval painting of the same name. In medieval written sources, works of art are not often referred to, let alone described in any detail. Almost completely ignored by art historians because of the immense difficulty of its text, Hugh of Saint Victor's Mystic Ark (c.1125–30) is among the most unusual sources we have for an understanding of medieval artistic culture. Depicting all time, all space, all matter, all human history and all spiritual striving, this highly polemical painting deals with a series of cultural issues crucial in the education of society's elite during one of the great periods of intellectual change in Western history.

Download or read book Narrative Faith written by David Stromberg and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2017-10-18 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Narrative Faith engages with the dynamics of doubt and faith to consider how literary works with complex structures explore different moral visions. The study describes a literary petite histoire that problematizes faith in two ways—both in the themes presented in the story, and the strategies used to tell that story—leading readers to doubt the narrators and their narratives. Starting with Dostoevsky’s Demons (1872), a literary work that has captivated and confounded critics and readers for well over a century, the study examines Albert Camus’s The Plague (1947) and Isaac Bashevis Singer’s The Penitent (1973/83), works by twentieth-century authors who similarly intensify questions of faith through narrators that generate doubt. The two postwar novelists share parallel preoccupations with Dostoevsky’s art and similar personal philosophies, while their works constitute two literary responses to the cataclysm of the Second World War—extending questions of faith into the current era. The book’s last section looks beyond narrative inquiry to consider themes of confession and revision that appear in all three novels and open onto horizons beyond faith and doubt—to hope.
