But their mature and levelheaded love encounters obstacles. A showdown between the two men, her frustrated friend and the farmer. Erika gives up and wishes to return to her country, but a moment before she boards her flight, she is arrested as a suspect in an attempt to assassinate Veronica. Veronica is no other than the divorcee of Eduardo, a stunning socialite, owner of a luxurious spa in Mexico City. Who is the terrifying assassin? Is it Erika's beloved, as the police suspect? Perhaps it is Erika herself? The criminal trial that you will witness in this book will swiftly turn into a captivating and fascinating mystery. An exciting, intricate and moving family saga. The readers are drawn into a series of events which branch out and surprise with every new chapter, exactly like in Viva Librte's previous book, Dancing Life. The fascinating plot is partly based on a true story, and is a personal evidence of the author. After a thorough research her book presents us with a cunning investigator, a decent criminal defense attorney, and a general prosecutor who is tormented by his conscience. Those three will assist her throughout the story in presenting the confusing legal system of The Tequila State. In her picturesque depictions Viva Librte gives us a taste of Mexico's views, scents, and authentic and exceptional colors and sights. This is a 'must' for the enthusiasts of Mexico and the Latin-American culture.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE SENSE OF SMELL The nose is normally mistakenly assumed to be the organ of smell reception. It is not. The primary function of the nose is to regulate the temperature and humidity of inspired air, thereby protecting the delicate linings of the lungs. This is achieved by the breathed air passing through narrow passageways formed by three nasal turbinates in each nostril. The turbinates are covered by spongy vascular cells which can expand or contract to open or close the nasal pathways. The olfactory receptors, innervated by the 1st cranial nerve, are located at the top of the nose. There are about 50 million smell receptors in the human olfactory epithelia, the total size of which, in humans, is about that of a small postage stamp, with half being at the top of the left and half at the top of the right nostril. The receptive surfaces of olfactory cells are ciliated and extend into a covering layer of mucus. There is a constant turnover of olfactory cells. Their average active life has been estimated to be about 28 days.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Perfume Lover is a candid personal account of the process of composing a fragrance, filled with sensual scent descriptions, sexy tidbits, and historical vignettes. What if the most beautiful night in your life inspired a perfume? When Denyse Beaulieu was growing up near Montreal, perfume was forbidden in her house, spurring a childhood curiosity that became an intellectual and sensual passion. It is this passion she pursued all the way to Paris, where she now lives, and which led her to become a respected fragrance writer. But little did she know that it would also lead her to achieve a perfume lover's wildest dream: When Denyse tells famous perfumer Betrand Duchaufour at L'Artisan Parfumeur of a sensual night spent in Seville under a blossoming orange tree, wrapped in the arms of a beautiful man, the story stirs his imagination and together they create a scent that captures the essence of that night. As their unique creative collaboration unfolds, the perfume-in-progress conjures intimate memories, leading Beaulieu to make sense of her life through scents. Throughout the book, she weaves the evocative history of perfumery into her personal journey, in an intensely passionate voice: the masters and the masterpieces, the myths and the myth-busting, down to the molecular mysteries that weld our flesh to flowers. Now, just to set your nostrils aquiver: Séville à l'aube is an orange blossom oriental with zesty, green and balsamic effects, with notes of petitgrain, petitgrain citronnier, orange blossom, beeswax, incense, and lavender, and is now available at fragrance outlets in the U.S.

Book The Ghost Perfumer

  • Author : Gabe Oppenheim
  • Publisher : Independently Published
  • Release : 2021-12-23
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 258 pages

Download or read book The Ghost Perfumer written by Gabe Oppenheim and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2021-12-23 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of a genius and a fraud. For more than half a century, Olivier Creed, heir to a French fashion empire but out to conquer an adjacent field by himself, created the most compelling and costly perfumes in the world - scents so successful - artistically and commercially - that the world's largest asset manager bought his small olfactory enterprise for nearly $1 billion in 2020. One could arguably have called him the world's most capable perfumer. Except Olivier Creed never authored the scents for which he has long received acclaim and lucre. Gabe Oppenheim reveals the heretofore untold story behind this supposed-cologne colossus of a man - and the eponymous company that became a social media sensation: That scents were authored by someone else entirely - a brilliant ghostwriter - a hidden, scholarly figure with a great passion for Proust and an unfortunate tendency to doubt the quality of his own compositions. How these two figures met and the arrangement was struck - how they circled each other warily for the next 40 years - how lies, told often enough, became truths - Gabe Oppenheim examines as he journeys into the heart of an industry mystifying and fanciful, enormous and intimate, sensuous and yet so-damn-insubstantial. It's an expedition that takes him to a Creed shop in Dubai and the castle in Normandy where the Ghost resides, having left behind a Parisian world that, in some sense, never acknowledged him. And yet, he's a legend in a certain section of the scented demimonde for a few achievements so innovative he wouldn't yield them even to a charismatic manipulator. Oppenheim explores issues of attribution and artistry, credit and craftsmanship, ingenuity and disingenuousness. "The Ghost Perfumer" is the story of a genius and a fraud. And perhaps the greatest con in the history of luxury retail.

Book Between Byzantine Men

    Book Details:
  • Author : Mark Masterson
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2022-06-17
  • ISBN : 1351135228
  • Pages : 230 pages

Download or read book Between Byzantine Men written by Mark Masterson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-06-17 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The presence and importance of same-sex desire between men in the Byzantine Empire has been understudied. While John Boswell and others tried to open a conversation about desire between Byzantine men decades ago, the field reverted to emphasis on prohibition and an inability to read the evidence of same-sex desire between men in the sources. Between Byzantine Men: Desire, Homosociality, and Brotherhood in the Medieval Empire challenges and transforms this situation by placing at centre stage Byzantine men's desiring relations with one another. This book foregrounds desire between men in and around the imperial court of the 900s. Analysis of Greek sources (many untranslated until now) and of material culture reveals a situation both more liberal than the medieval West and important for its rite of brother-making (adelphopoiesis), which was a precursor to today’s same-sex marriage. This book transforms our understanding of Byzantine elite men's culture and is an important addition to the history of sex and desire between men. Between Byzantine Men will appeal to scholars and general readers who are interested in Byzantine History, Society, and Culture, the History of Masculinity, and the History of Sexuality.
