Book 40 Days of Dating

Download or read book 40 Days of Dating written by Timothy Goodman and published by ABRAMS. This book was released on 2015-01-20 with total page 586 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “What would happen if Harry met Sally in the age of Tinder and Snapchat? . . . A field guide to Millennial dating in New York City” (New York Daily News). When New York–based graphic designers and long-time friends Timothy Goodman and Jessica Walsh found themselves single at the same time, they decided to try an experiment. The old adage says that it takes forty days to change a habit—could the same be said for love? So they agreed to date each other for forty days, record their experiences in questionnaires, photographs, videos, texts, and artworks, and post the material on a website they would create for this purpose. What began as a small experiment between two friends became an Internet sensation, drawing five million unique (and obsessed) visitors from around the globe to their site and their story. 40 Days of Dating: An Experiment is a beautifully designed, expanded look at the experiment and the results, including a great deal of material that never made it onto the site, such as who they were as friends and individuals before the forty days and who they have become since.

Download or read book Change Your Mind written by Kristen a Tschida and published by . This book was released on 2019-07-22 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You are embarking on a 40 day journey of discovering your inner world, beginning to change your mind about your thought life. It is time to think about what you think about. Matthew 5:8 in the Passion Translation "You're blessed when you get your inside world your mind and heart put right. Then you can see God in the outside world". One of the goals for this 40 days is to get your inside world put right. My journey of renewing my thought life began 30 years ago. It was a gift from the Holy Spirit as He began to teach me how to think about myself, my marriage, my parenting, my relationships, my work, etc. As my mind was being renewed (and it continues to be) my speech, actions and belief system changed. Set your heart to invest in the hard work of realigning your mind. This is a worthy endeavor. I use this quote from Bill Johnson (Bethel Church, Redding, CA) often, "I cannot afford to have a thought in my head about me that Jesus doesn't have in His head about me." This is the standard. What does Jesus think about you? Everything He thinks about you agrees with His nature. Our minds must be transformed from the earthly, practical, natural thinking to heavenly, belief, faith-filled thinking. Your challenge is to accept the eternal, infinite rule of God over your thought life! When you change your mind, you change your life.

  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 177 pages

Download or read book Healing Prayer written by David Chotka and published by Whitaker House. This book was released on 2023-11-21 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What if you never expected miraculous healing was possible but were surprised when it actually happened, or by the way in which it happened? And what if you found out that, all along, the Bible had principles for healing prayer that we could apply to our lives for restoring body, mind, and spirit? Join authors David Chotka and Maxie Dunnam in their unexpected journeys of discovery that healing prayer is God's idea, not a human concept, and that He invites us to intercede for healing in our own lives and on behalf of others. Prayer, including healing prayer, is one of the greatest activities in which Christians can participate with God to fulfill His purposes. God wants us to pray as an integral part of our relationship with Him and as a vital aspect of our life of faith. This intriguing book covers such topics as: Healing prayer: what does the Bible say? Medicine, miracle, and mystery: how they interrelate Why and how we pray for healing The role of compassion in healing Christ's forgiving and healing presence within us How to prepare yourself for prayer Eight ways healing prayer is misunderstood Healing Prayer includes accounts of God's power to heal today, and it provides guidance for how to organize a prayer team in your small group, church, or denomination. Above all, this book shows that it is God who initiates healing prayer. Our part is to respond to His instructions and leading as we pray. All He asks is our openness to Him. Read this book and you, too, may be surprised by the power of Healing Prayer.

Book The Emerald Green and Black Damselfly

Download or read book The Emerald Green and Black Damselfly written by Isabelle K. Jean and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2021-08-18 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Isabelle K. Jean’s COVID-19 journey began on a Saturday afternoon, no different from any other Saturday. Her husband, James, came back from golfing more than just the normal tired. As the evening wore on, he developed a fever and became sicker with each passing hour. Still awaiting his COVID-19 test results, he felt miserable, so he asked his wife to spend time outside so she didn’t get sick. Little did he know, she’d be diagnosed as COVID-19 positive within a few days. While she tried recovering at home, the illness hit her hard. A friend gifted in healing told her she’d been helping people remotely. They prayed together, and the author asked for her help. She leaned on those prayers when she went to the local hospital, which was ill-prepared to deal with her diagnosis: acute respiratory distress syndrome due to COVID-19 virus. It would take the author all her will and energy to battle COVID-19, but along the way, she grew in faith and learned life lessons that she reveals in The Emerald-Green and Black Damselfly.

Book The First Forty Days

Download or read book The First Forty Days written by Heng Ou and published by Abrams. This book was released on 2016-04-26 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After labor, it’s time for rest: A gentle guide to zuo yuezi, the ancient Chinese practice of postpartum self-care, including sixty simple recipes. The first forty days after the birth of a child offer an essential and fleeting period of rest and recovery for the new mother. Based on Heng Ou’s own postpartum experience with zuo yuezi, a set period of “confinement” in which a woman remains at home focusing on healing and bonding with her baby, The First Forty Days revives the lost art of caring for the mother after birth. As modern mothers are pushed to prematurely “bounce back” after delivering their babies, and are often left alone to face the physical and emotional challenges of this new stage of their lives, the first forty days provide a lifeline—a source of connection, nourishment, and guidance. This book includes sixty simple recipes for healing soups, replenishing meals and snacks, and calming and lactation-boosting teas, all formulated to support the unique needs of the new mother. In addition to recipes, this warm and encouraging guide offers advice on arranging a system of help during the postpartum period, navigating relationship challenges, and honoring the significance of pregnancy and birth. Fully illustrated, it is a practical guide and inspirational read for all new mothers and mothers-to-be—the perfect ally during the first weeks with a new baby. “Bringing our attention back to the importance of the postpartum period for new mothers helps to create space for this essential period of integration and recovery . . . an invaluable companion during the first 40 days and beyond.” —Ricki Lake & Abby Epstein, filmmakers, The Business of Being Born

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you believe that dieting down to your "ideal" weight will prolong your life; that reliving childhood trauma can undo adult personality problems; that alcoholics have addictive personalities, or that psychoanalysis helps cure anxiety, then get ready for a shock. In the climate of self-improvement that has reigned for the last twenty years, misinformation about treatments for everything from alcohol abuse to sexual dysfunction has flourished. Those of us trying to change these conditions are often frustrated by failure, mixed success, or success followed by a relapse. But have you ever asked yourself: can my condition really be changed? And if so, am I going about it in the most effective way? Grounding his conclusions in the most recent and most authoritative scientific studies, Seligman pinpoints the techniques and therapies that work best for each condition, explains why they work, and discusses how you can use them to change your life. Inside, you'll discover: the four natural healing factors for recovering from alcoholism; the vital difference between overeating and being overweight, and why dieters always gain back the pounds they "lost"; the four therapies that work for depression, and how you can "dispute" your way to optimistic thinking; the pros and cons of anger, and the steps to take to understand it and much more!

Book Forty Days on Being a Nine

Download or read book Forty Days on Being a Nine written by Marlena Graves and published by InterVarsity Press. This book was released on 2021-02-23 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Why do you hold back?" Enneagram Nines are often asked questions like this by others who want to invite them to share their gifts. Marlena Graves describes her own experience with deciding whether to speak up: "I know what it's like to be run over and rendered invisible. I don't want to do the same to others." Nines are easy to be around because they seem to instinctively put others before themselves. In these readings Marlena reflects on what it's like to be a Nine with a spirit of honest self-assessment and a desire for personal and spiritual growth. She draws wisdom from the deep wells of both counseling and spirituality, using illustrations from Scripture and life. She writes out of her personal context, drawing on the lessons learned from her Puerto Rican Abuelita and from growing up in poverty. But she also writes for all of us. Each reading concludes with an opportunity for further engagement such as a journaling prompt, reflection questions, a written prayer, or a spiritual practice. Any of us can find aspects of ourselves in any of the numbers. The Enneagram is a profound tool for empathy, so whether or not you are a Nine, you will grow from your reading about Nines and enhance your relationships across the Enneagram spectrum.

Book The Joy of Movement

Download or read book The Joy of Movement written by Kelly McGonigal and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2021-03-02 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now in paperback. The bestselling author of The Willpower Instinct introduces a surprising science-based book that doesn't tell us why we should exercise but instead shows us how to fall in love with movement. Exercise is health-enhancing and life-extending, yet many of us feel it's a chore. But, as Kelly McGonigal reveals, it doesn't have to be. Movement can and should be a source of joy. Through her trademark blend of science and storytelling, McGonigal draws on insights from neuroscience, psychology, anthropology, and evolutionary biology, as well as memoirs, ethnographies, and philosophers. She shows how movement is intertwined with some of the most basic human joys, including self-expression, social connection, and mastery--and why it is a powerful antidote to the modern epidemics of depression, anxiety, and loneliness. McGonigal tells the stories of people who have found fulfillment and belonging through running, walking, dancing, swimming, weightlifting, and more, with examples that span the globe, from Tanzania, where one of the last hunter-gatherer tribes on the planet live, to a dance class at Juilliard for people with Parkinson's disease, to the streets of London, where volunteers combine fitness and community service, to races in the remote wilderness, where athletes push the limits of what a human can endure. Along the way, McGonigal paints a portrait of human nature that highlights our capacity for hope, cooperation, and self-transcendence. The result is a revolutionary narrative that goes beyond familiar arguments in favor of exercise, to illustrate why movement is integral to both our happiness and our humanity. Readers will learn what they can do in their own lives and communities to harness the power of movement to create happiness, meaning, and connection.

Book Change Anything

Download or read book Change Anything written by Kerry Patterson and published by Balance. This book was released on 2011-04-11 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A stunning approach to how individuals can not only change their lives for the better in the workplace, but also their lives away from the office, including (but not limited to) finding ways to improve one's working relationship with others, one's overall health, outlook on life, and so on. For example, why is it that 95% of all diet attempts fail? Why do New Year's Resolutions last no more than a few days? Why can't people with good intentions seem to make consistent and positive strides? Based upon the latest research in a number of psychological and medical fields, the authors of Change Anything will show that traditional will-power is not necessarily the answer to these strivings, that people are affected in their behaviors by far more subtle influences. Change Anything shows how individuals can come to understand these powerful and influential forces, and how to put these forces to work in a positive manner that brings real and meaningful results. The authors present an array of everyday examples that will change and truly empower you to reexamine the way you go about your business and life.
