As the famous saying goes, "like attracts like." Likewise, royalty should attract royalty. Thus, if a husband is treated like a king, his wife should not be treated like a handmaiden.A king-husband is not gifted with a handmaiden-wife who is inferior to him upon marriage. Rather, he is gifted with a queen-wife who is precious and should be valued.Every King Needs a Queen, Not a Handmaiden will: - Open your eyes to a better mindset that is guaranteed to improve your life and, subsequently, your marriage too.- Challenge the norm in the disparity between how husbands are expected to be treated, in contrast to their wives.- Give you a better appreciation of your spouse. - Help a queen-wife break away from any excessive servitude that might come with marital expectations.- Challenge husbands to elevate their spouses from a handmaiden-wife to a queen-wife.

Book excerpt: Darya does not remember how she came to be a slave or who she was before she was bought by an army captain for his motherless daughter in the ancient Persian city of Susa. Protected and nurtured by the housekeeper and her daughter, Darya has as good a life as a slave can have, even acquiring the rare skill of reading and writing, which she learns alongside her young mistress. When the captain dies and the household is broken up, this skill proves to be her lifeline. She becomes the seventh handmaiden to the mysterious Esther, who is being housed at the Royal Palace while in contention to be King Xerxes’ new Queen. However, life in Ancient Persia is precarious for women and outsiders, wherever they are in the hierarchy. When the king appoints a new prime minister called Haman, Darya and Esther are drawn into his murderous conflict with the Judean community and Mordechai, their leader, who lives just outside the palace gates. In a world of discord and uprising, Darya seeks to fix the world around her and protect her friends, while also trying to unravel the mysteries surrounding who she is and how she became a slave. As she grows from childhood to womanhood she grapples with her own identity, her aspirations and desires and begins to understand the true meaning of both slavery and freedom.

Book excerpt: A jealous Egyptian queen. A lascivious Galilean governor. A beautiful servant girl. Theirs is a story of prophecy, self-discovery, and revelation. The year is 39 BC. All of Alexandria awaits the arrival of Herod, the Galilean governor with his eye on the Judean kingship. The handmaid of Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt, receives a troubling visit from her aging mentor. An orphan since birth, Lydia lives in the palace at the demand of Cleopatra and her royal child, the son of Julius Caesar. But Lydia has a growing problem on her hands: her beauty is becoming a liability to the aging queen, and the visiting Herod’s undisguised interest only makes matters worse. When Lydia’s mentor is murdered, the handmaid inherits a daunting task. An ancient set of sealed scrolls, the secret writings of the prophet Daniel, must be returned to Jerusalem—before those who killed her mentor destroy the scrolls as well. The future of the Israelites depends on it. So Lydia leaves the palace to serve as lady’s maid to Herod’s wife in the Holy City. As Lydia is absorbed into the machinations of Herod’s household, her mission— and her people’s hope of a Messianic King—are endangered at every turn. Can Lydia avoid the adulterous intentions of Herod? Can she deliver the scrolls to the mysterious man on the steps of the Temple? Will the true King of Israel ever rise? "Higley amazes us with another of her action-packed feats of storytelling." —RT Book Reviews, 4 1/2 Stars, TOP PICK! (on Palace of Darkness)

Book excerpt: They call me Uniter of Realms, Bringer of Peace, High Queen. But I don't know how to be any of that. Five realms hang in the balance, three races whose lives depend on magic, and one corrupt king hoarding it all for himself. My role? Oh, just fixing it. Easy, right? But a handful of sexy realm leaders insist I'm the human-born with demon blood—each vying for attention, each one's touch drawing something strange and blissful from me. Sweet, attentive Callum, pragmatic and commanding Sorin, dark and intuitive Verrill, and icy, collected Jadzeera. Each one has something to teach me—about magic and about myself. The longer I stay in these hell realms the closer I grow to each realm leader, the more my power grows and the more I realize I cannot simply have one realm leader. I need them all by my side—and in my bed—to bring the realms back together. The Demon Queen is a fast-burn FFMMM Reverse Harem. This fun, sexy ride is packed full of seductive demons, a smart heroine, a wisecracking best friend, and a teleporting cat. EDITORIAL REVIEWS It's EXTREMELY rare for me to give a book 5 stars. I reserve it only for books that move me and make me want to revisit their pages. This book is that and so much more. Being a pansexual/non-monogamous woman has been a journey. Accepting it and being proud to declare such titles has not been sinple, and escaping into the RH world has been a fun way to escape into a fantasized reality, but never have I read a story with characters that so deeply made me feel the vast range of emotions. (How dramatic for a fantasy book about sexy stuff, right? Lol) Beyond the personal rightness this book gave me, tingly belly feels and all, the world building is orgasmic in its own right. The storyline was engaging and magical with just a hint of realism and "it-could-happen" factor. I absolutely loved every moment of this story, and if you are looking for an awesome bisexual main character with a lady lover and four delicious dudes, then you'll absolutely love this book. I definitely did. -JSpringer Original. Groundbreaking! ...Reading RH can feel a bit wearisome at times.... When you read RH the way I do, it is really refreshing to finally find a horde with lady interest. This is the first in well over one hundred reads that went there, and balanced all the parts perfectly. Kudos to the author for breaking out of a mold and reshaping things. Also, I want to say that this author found a way to have the heroine actually figure things out without spending too much time on her baggage. It's there, but Zurie jumps beyond. Love it. -SJennings

Download or read book The Pregnant King written by Devdutt Pattanaik and published by Penguin UK. This book was released on 2014-07-11 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘I am not sure that I am a man,’ said Yuvanashva. ‘I have created life outside me as men do. But I have also created life inside me, as women do. What does that make me? Will a body such as mine fetter or free me?’ Among the many hundreds of characters who inhabit the Mahabharata, perhaps the world’s greatest epic and certainly one of the oldest, is Yuvanashva, a childless king, who accidentally drinks a magic potion meant to make his queens pregnant and gives birth to a son. This extraordinary novel is his story. It is also the story of his mother Shilavati, who cannot be king because she is a woman; of young Somvat, who surrenders his genitals to become a wife; of Shikhandi, a daughter brought up as a son, who fathers a child with a borrowed penis; of Arjuna, the great warrior with many wives, who is forced to masquerade as a woman after being castrated by a nymph; of Ileshwara, a god on full-moon days and a goddess on new-moon nights; and of Adi-natha, the teacher of teachers, worshipped as a hermit by some and as an enchantress by others. Building on Hinduism’s rich and complex mythology—but driven by a very contemporary sensibility—Devdutt Pattanaik creates a lush and fecund work of fiction in which the lines are continually blurred between men and women, sons and daughters, husbands and wives, fathers and mothers. Confronted with such fluidity the reader is drawn into Yuvanashva’s struggle to be fair to all—those here, those there and all those in between.

Book excerpt: Inspired by Velázquez’s baroque masterpiece, Las Meninas, The Queen’s Prophet is an imagined account of the dwarfess Maribarbola of Spain (featured prominently in Velázquez’s painting) and her struggle for survival and self-determination at a time when dwarfs were kept by aristocracy as pets, prophets, and good luck charms. When the Countess of Walther dies at her German estate, her loyal dwarfess Maria-Barbara is forced to work as a prophet for a traveling magician, who betrays her by selling her to the Queen of Spain. At the royal court in Madrid, Mari finds herself in a bizarre, enchanted world, a society culturally splendid but intellectually isolated. There she becomes Maribarbola, prophet to the Queen, and, her survival at stake, endeavors to outsmart the Spaniards. Mari's wits and loyalties are tested as she becomes embroiled in palace intrigue alongside the politically embattled Queen. When Mari's carefully schemed prophecies dazzle all of Spain, she and the Queen climb to dizzying heights of power, a place as intoxicating as it is dangerous. But even as Mari survives and thrives at the Spanish court, the loss of identity she suffers from living a lie makes her question whether she is really surviving at all.
