Book Robust Nonlinear Control of Industrial Evaporation Systems

Download or read book Robust Nonlinear Control of Industrial Evaporation Systems written by L. C. To and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1999 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonlinearities exist in all process control systems. The use of linear control techniques is valid only in a narrow region of operation. Nonlinear control is central to future industrial development. In this book, multivariable nonlinear control techniques based on differential geometry are considered in a pragmatic manner. The book provides a simplified and systematic approach to geometric nonlinear control theory. A case study of an industrial evaporator is used as an example throughout the entire book. Various other examples are also used throughout the text to illustrate the theory. The book successfully demonstrates the superiority and simplicity of the class of controllers studied through simulations and actual plant implementations. The simulations were done using the symbolic computation package MAPLE. Discussions are given on the application of symbolic computation in process engineering. This book is aimed at industrial practitioners and postgraduates in engineering, and will be particularly valuable to practicing engineers who find the theory books on control somewhat heavy going. The insights provided in the book will encourage more industrial implementations of nonlinear controllers, and thereby help to bridge the widening gap between control theory and industrial practice.

Book Evaporation Technology in Food Processing

Download or read book Evaporation Technology in Food Processing written by Seid Mahdi Jafari and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2024-02-29 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evaporation Technology in Food Processing, Volume Nine in the Unit Operations and Processing Equipment in the Food Industry series, explains the processing operations and equipment necessary for recent invented non-thermal processing of different food products, including ozonation, plasma processing, pulsed electric fields, high pressure processing, irradiation and high frequency processing. These processes and unit operations are very important in terms of achieving favorable sensory properties and energy usage. Written by experts in the field of food engineering, this book targets Industrial Engineers working in the field of food processing and within food factories. Divided in four sections, "Evaporation basics," "Different types of evaporators, "Application of evaporators in the food industry and "Design, control and efficiency of evaporators, all chapters emphasize basic texts relating to experimental, theoretical, computational, and/or applications of food engineering principles and the relevant processing equipment to evaporation unit operations. - Thoroughly explores the processing operations and equipment necessary for the evaporation of different food products applying steam - Brings new opportunities in food processing through innovative evaporation processes - Covers the design, control and efficiency of evaporators

Book Drought Management on Farmland

Download or read book Drought Management on Farmland written by Joan Sydney Whitmore and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2000-01-31 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At last, integrated management of drought on farms is dealt with in one comprehensive book. Although drought is a highly variable, near-universal natural phenomenon which has repercussions on a country's water and food supplies and many other sectors of the economy, there are many ways of avoiding, resisting and mitigating the effects of drought. Pro-active preparedness entails using the principles of risk management to upgrade the drought resistance of a farm systematically, and to have auxiliary contingency plans at the ready for use during unusually long droughts. The book provides tools for these strategies as it covers the management of water, soils, crops, rangeland, fodder and livestock, and many other drought-related topics. Audience: This book will be an important source of information for university and college staff and students in agricultural sciences, water and land use, environmental management, geography and risk management, and also farmers, agricultural advisors and policy makers.

Book Retardation of Evaporation by Monolayers

Download or read book Retardation of Evaporation by Monolayers written by Victor K. La Mer and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Retardation of Evaporation by Monolayers: Transport Processes covers the papers presented at the Symposium on The Retardation of Evaporation by Monolayers, held under the sponsorship of the Division of Colloid and Surface Chemistry of the American Chemical Society in September 1960. The book focuses on the processes, reactions, methodologies, and technologies involved in the retardation of evaporation by monolayers. The selection first offers information on the evaporation resistances of monolayers of long-chain acids and alcohols and their mixtures and laboratory investigation and evaluation of monolayers for retarding the evaporation of water. The book then examines the effect of monomolecular films on the surface temperature of water; influence of surface-active compounds upon the diffusion of gases across air-water interface; and energy barrier for monolayer penetration. Discussions focus on the effects of hydrogen substitution on evaporation, effects of a monomolecular film of a saturated fatty acid or alcohol, effects of a polar group on evaporation, and determination of surface temperature. The text takes a look at the permeability of monolayers to several gases; effects of bacterial decomposition of hexadecanol and octadecanol in monolayer films on the suppression of evaporation loss of water; and aspects of evaporation. The selection is highly recommended for researchers interested in the transport processes involved in the retardation of evaporation by monolayers.
