Book The Practice and Theory of School Improvement

Download or read book The Practice and Theory of School Improvement written by David Hopkins and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-05-13 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ANDY HARGREAVES Department of Teacher Education, Curriculum and Instruction Lynch School of Education, Boston College, MA, U.S.A. ANN LIEBERMAN Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, Stanford, CA, U.S.A. MICHAEL FULLAN Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto, Canada DAVID HOPKINS Department for Education and Skills, London, U.K. This set of four volumes on Educational Change brings together evidence and insights on educational change issues from leading writers and researchers in the field from across the world. Many of these writers, whose chapters have been specially written for these books, have been investigating, helping initiate and implementing educational change, for most or all of their lengthy careers. Others are working on the cutting edge of theory and practice in educational change, taking the field in new or even more challenging directions. And some are more skeptical about the literature of educational change and the assumptions on which it rests. They help us to approach projects of understanding or initiating educational change more deeply, reflectively and realistically. Educational change and reform have rarely had so much prominence within public policy, in so many different places. Educational change is ubiquitous. It figures large in Presidential and Prime Ministerial speeches. It is at or near the top of many National policy agendas. Everywhere, educational change is not only a policy priority but also major public news. Yet action to bring about educational change usually exceeds people's understanding of how to do so effectively.

Book Understanding Learning and Motivation in Youth

Download or read book Understanding Learning and Motivation in Youth written by Noemi Katznelson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-28 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through interviews with a selection of the most qualified and well-reputed Northern European researchers, Understanding Learning and Motivation in Youth explores, and offers a range of solutions to, one of the central problems in modern education: motivation for learning. The way that teaching is currently delivered to students aged 11–19 often does not support positive learning; the ongoing encouragement to produce as much competence as possible at the lowest possible costs elicits critical conditions for learning processes, endangering not only the motivation of students, but also the engagement and motivation of teachers themselves. This book examines how this can be handled in practice by teachers and educators, drawing on the perspectives of carefully selected experts to provide an introduction to the debates surrounding neoliberal education, as well as a means to counteract the damages in their everyday teaching and activities. With an original and accessible format and a unique insight into the thoughts of a select group of academics, Understanding Learning and Motivation is essential reading for students, researchers and academics studying the effects of neoliberal education, as well as practicing teachers and educational leaders who are attempting to combat the problem.

This book was released on 2023-04-13 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents the results of a comparative study of language training for adult immigrants in the Nordic countries. The purpose of the study has been to compare and analyse similarities and differences across Nordic countries and immigrant sub-groups concerning eligibility to participate in language training services, motivation and goals, barriers, and the perceived benefits of language training. The study covers the perceptions of providers of language training, participating immigrants and employers in Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden. The study shows that while there are differences in how the Nordic countries organise and deliver both formal and non-formal language training services, the systems are largely similar. The main difference found between the countries concerns eligibility to participate. For participants, goals, barriers, and motivations are largely similar.

Book Models for Children s Involvement

Download or read book Models for Children s Involvement written by Aina Winswold and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2010 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 2010 is the 20th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. In honour of this, we present in this publication 23 selected articles about children's involvement in the Nordic countries and in the self-governing territories of Greenland, the Faroe Islands and Åland. The articles illustrate a broad spectrum of models for participation as applied in central arenas in everyday lives of children and young people: pre-schools and schools, culture and local environment, and in political decisions. We have also included articles that concern the involvement of children and young people with experiences as clients in the welfare support system. An important goal is that these examples will serve as inspiration and toolkits for others who work with children and young people. This publication was produced by Norwegian Social Research (NOVA) as commissioned by the Nordic Committee for Children and Young People (NORDBUK) at the Nordic Council of Ministers.

Book The Magical Properties of Workshop Learning

Download or read book The Magical Properties of Workshop Learning written by Liv Mjelde and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2006 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pedagogical theory arising from general education has long dominated discourse in both research and policy-making in education: this is also evident in vocational studies. Today, both locally and internationally, the complex processes of vocational pedagogy play a central role in the discussions. Work-based learning, the master-apprenticeship learning tradition, and the pedagogy of vocations and professions are all important concepts in on-going education policy debates. Contradictions between different learning traditions are clearly evident in vocational pedagogy: learning according to the workshop traditions or learning in the classroom, vocational theory and general theory, learning at school and learning in a work situation. This book is based on research in Norway and examines problems of teaching and learning in relation to vocational curricula of upper secondary schooling, apprentices' experiences and masters thesis-writing in the field of vocational pedagogy. The book also explores the question of vocational education and gender, today and in the past.

Book Media Literacy Education in Action

Download or read book Media Literacy Education in Action written by Belinha S. De Abreu and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-12-17 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Media Literacy Education in Action brings together the field’s leading scholars and advocates to present a snapshot of the theoretical and conceptual development of media literacy education—what has influenced it, current trends, and ideas about its future. Featuring a mix of perspectives, it explores the divergent ways in which media literacy is connected to educational communities and academic areas in both local and global contexts. The volume is structured around seven themes: • Media Literacy: Past and Present • Digital Media and Learning • Global Perspectives • Public Spaces • Civic Activism • Policy and Digital Citizenship • Future Connections Compelling, well-organized, and authoritative, this one-stop resource for understanding more about media literacy education across disciplines, cultures, and divides offers the fresh outlook that is needed at this point in time. Globally, as more and more states and countries call for media literacy education more explicitly in their curriculum guidelines, educators are being required to teach media literacy in both elementary and secondary education contexts.
