Book A Critical Analysis of Sketch planning Tools for Evaluating the Emission Benefits of Transportation Control Measures

Download or read book A Critical Analysis of Sketch planning Tools for Evaluating the Emission Benefits of Transportation Control Measures written by Jason A. Crawford and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The role of transportation control measures (TCMs) in the transportation planning process has increased since the passage of the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments. TCM analysis began in the early 1980s and several sketch-planning tools are now available. The two premier sketch-planning tools used for evaluating transportation control measures are the Systems Applications International (SAI) method and the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) method. Both methods were adapted to an available spreadsheet for easy use and modification. The SAI method required full programming in the spreadsheet, whereas the SANDAG method, originally developed for spreadsheet use, required only minor revisions. A critical analysis, base scenario comparison, and sensitivity analysis were performed on the SAI and SANDAG methods. Results of the sensitivity analysis showed that the tools are most sensitive to the scope descriptors and work-related variables. The report concludes that (1) recent work in the field has greatly advanced the state-of-the-practice; (2) the SAI method proved to be a better analysis tool than the SANDAG method; and (3) although sketch-planning tools are gross estimating techniques, they are currently the best TCM analysis tools.

Book Transit Noise and Vibration Impact Assessment

Download or read book Transit Noise and Vibration Impact Assessment written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This manual provides direction for the preparation of noise and vibration sections of environmental documents for mass transportation projects. The manual has been developed in the interest of promoting quality and uniformity in assessments. It is expected to be used by people associated with or affected by the urban transit industry, including Federal Transit Administration (FTA) staff, grant applicants, consultants and the general public. Each of these groups has an interest in noise/vibration assessment, but not all have the need for all the details of the process. Consequently, this manual has been prepared to serve readers with varying levels of technical background and interests. It sets forth the basic concepts, methods and procedures for documenting the extent and severity of noise impacts from transit projects.

Book Impact Evaluation of Transport Interventions

Download or read book Impact Evaluation of Transport Interventions written by David A. Raitzer and published by Asian Development Bank. This book was released on 2019-04-01 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication aims to support impact evaluation in the transport sector by assessing what has been produced against what might be possible. It reviews 91 impact evaluations of transport interventions in developing countries, summarizes findings on outcomes, identifies evidence gaps, and proposes ways forward. Most of the studies reviewed find significant effects on at least one of the outcomes investigated. However, impact evaluation has given relatively little coverage to major areas of investment, such as urban and sustainable transportation, transport corridors, and efficiency enhancing measures. New methods and increasing openness of geospatial data provide scope to generate more innovative impact studies.
