Book The Athlete Apperception Technique

Download or read book The Athlete Apperception Technique written by Petah M. Gibbs and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-02-10 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the field of sport psychology has matured, so a greater appreciation for a diversity of training models, research methodologies, and therapeutic approaches, opposed to the dominant models of objective testing, has developed. The Athlete Apperception Technique (AAT) sets out a sport-specific projective test for practitioners working in sport and exercise service delivery or counselling work with athletes and coaches. This innovative book includes a basic primer on projective methods and the psychoanalytic theory behind them; a history of projective, storytelling instruments in clinical psychology; the development of the image set for the AAT; some examples of interpreting AAT image stories; instructions for the administration of the AAT; a scoring guide for the stories produced; and in-depth descriptions of the stimulus properties of each image in the AAT, along with all images presented as full-page illustrations. The AAT will help sport practitioners identify and assess personality features, relationships, anxieties, achievement, motivation, and perfectionism, and augment the recent shift in orientation for service delivery to athletes and provide a more in-depth understanding of athletes’ characters. The AAT is useful supplementary reading for students of sport psychology and a novel tool for any practicing sport psychologist.

Book Personality Assessment in America

Download or read book Personality Assessment in America written by Edwin I. Megargee and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2019-06-07 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whereas most psychology books discuss current or future trends, this one focuses on the past. It consists of a collection of important and historically significant writings by a select group of men and women who, over the past 50 years, were honored by their colleagues for their distinguished contributions to the field of personality assessment. Published from 1939 through 1989, most of the papers were SPA Presidential addresses or presentations by the recipients of the Society's Distinguished Contributions Award. Taken as a whole, they provide a unique perspective on the evolution of personality assessment in America from the perspective of those who have made important contributions to that history. The writings are not merely of historical interest, but intrinsically important scientific contributions, some of which were in danger of being lost or forgotten. The editors feel it is important to preserve and pass on this valuable legacy for the education and edification of later generations. It is not only its historical perspective that makes this book unique. This book provides first-hand discussions of crucial issues in personality assessment written by the gifted men and women who were actually grappling with these problems at the time, without knowing what the outcomes would be. Readers will find that these papers provide insights not only into the conflicts and controversies, but also into the ideas, attitudes, and emotions of the men and women who took part in them.

Book Role Motivation Theories

Download or read book Role Motivation Theories written by John B. Miner and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2008-02-20 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Role Motivation Theories is concerned with four types of organisations and what makes them work. The four are not exhaustive of all possible organisational types but they do represent the major forms found in the world today. If we wish to understand organisational functioning in modern society then we need to have substantial insight into these four types of organisations. Drawing upon many years of research, John B. Miner argues that the organisational effectiveness required to produce high levels of productivity results from achieving a state of integration between the type of organizatonal system and the kind of people who fill the key positions in the system. Role Motivation Theores is the most comprehensive and up-to-date treatment of this work available.
