Book Evaluation of the Aerodynamic Interference of the Tunnel 4T Captive Trajectory System on the Separation Characteristics of the BLU 27 Store

Download or read book Evaluation of the Aerodynamic Interference of the Tunnel 4T Captive Trajectory System on the Separation Characteristics of the BLU 27 Store written by and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report contains the results of an experimental program to evaluate the effect of the 4T Captive Trajectory System on the separation characteristics of typical stores. The models selected as being generally representative of external stores were the modified BLU-27B/B configuration with and without fins. The aircraft model selected for this test was the F-111. To assess the aerodynamic interference of the Captive Trajectory System on the store and its trajectory, four sting lengths were used to position the store model at varying distances from the support system. Data were obtained at Mach numbers of 0.4, 0.8, 0.9, 1.1, and 1.2. Captive trajectories simulating store separation from the aircraft model were obtained; forces on the store were measured while the store was moved vertically away from the marriage position; and force data on the store were obtained as it was yawed in a location as far removed as possible from the aircraft model. It was concluded that the Captive Trajectory System has little or no effect on the store loads and trajectory development. (Author).

Book Store Separation Testing Techniques at the Arnold Engineering Development Center

Download or read book Store Separation Testing Techniques at the Arnold Engineering Development Center written by J. P. Billingsley and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tests were conducted on a four-finned, ogive-cylinder store model which was mounted on the von Karman Gas Dynamics Facility (VKF) Captive Trajectory System (CTS) in the Arnold Engineering Development Center (AEDC) Supersonic Wind Tunnel A. The purpose of these tests was to provide information necessary for an independent check on the VKF CTS trajectory mode results. Grid and trajectory data were obtained for the store, both in the free stream and in the interference flow field of a generalized parent-aircraft model. The Mach number was 1.63, with Reynolds numbers per foot of 5.0 and 3.8 million. Grid data from these tests were used in conjunction with the Air Force Flight Dynamics Laboratory (AFFDL) Six-Degree-of-Freedom Computer Program (SDFCP) to simulate the trajectories obtained by the VKF CTS. These SDFCP simulations compared favorably with the CTS trajectories, providing an important compared favorably with the CTS trajectories, providing an important independent verification of the VKF CTS trajectory mode results. This report documents this validation effort and provides a general description of the VKF CTS as well as guidelines for potential users of this system. (Author).

Book Captive trajectory Store separation System of the Aedc pwt 4 foot Transonic Tunnel

Download or read book Captive trajectory Store separation System of the Aedc pwt 4 foot Transonic Tunnel written by and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The captive-trajectory store-separation system of the Aerodynamic Wind Tunnel, Transonic (4T), provides the capability for determining the separation trajectory of a store in the vicinity of the parent aircraft. This system may also be used as a six-degree-of-freedom support for conventional force tests with or without a parent installed, and as a pressure probe or transducer mounting platform for flow field surveys in the vicinity of a model. With the store and parent independently supported in the tunnel, trajectory generation involves measurement of forces and moments acting on the captive store model, converting these to full-scale adding other forces and moments which may be applied to the full-scale store, solving the equations of motion for store acceleration, integrating these equations to find store displacement, converting this movement to model scale, and physically moving the store model along its flight path. This report describes the captive-trajectory store-separation system and its testing capabilities and presents the technique used for trajectory generation. (Author).

Book Comparison of Store Trajectory and Aerodynamic Loads and Model Flow Field Characteristics Obtained in the AEDC PWT 4T and VFK A Wind Tunnels at Mach Number 1 63

Download or read book Comparison of Store Trajectory and Aerodynamic Loads and Model Flow Field Characteristics Obtained in the AEDC PWT 4T and VFK A Wind Tunnels at Mach Number 1 63 written by and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tests were conducted in the VKF/A and PWT/4T wind tunnels at AEDC to obtain captive trajectory, aerodynamic loads, and flowfield data in order to assess the ability to reproduce trajectories from tunnel to tunnel. The data were obtained with a 0.05-scale generalized shape aircraft model, an ogive-cylinder store model, and conical flow survey probes at and near the centerline fuselage station pylon and the wing 1/3-semispan station pylon. The tests were conducted at a Mach number of 1.63 with aircraft model angle of attack set at zero. Generally, the trajectories obtained in the two wind tunnels compared well. There was very good agreement in the translational motion of the store trajectories, with only slight differences in the angular motion in selected cases. (Author).

Book Captive Trajectory Store Separation Characteristics of the SUU 51 B with Modified Tail Fins from the F 4C Aircraft

Download or read book Captive Trajectory Store Separation Characteristics of the SUU 51 B with Modified Tail Fins from the F 4C Aircraft written by J. M. Whoric and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A wind tunnel test was conducted using 0.05-scale models to study the separation characteristics of the SUU-51/B external store with modified tail fins from the F-4C aircraft. Captive-trajectory store-separation data were obtained for two store cg locations and for 10 store wing loading configurations. The separation trajectories were initiated from the right-wing inboard pylon station utilizing the Triple Ejection Rack and from the centerline pylon utilizing the Multiple Ejection Rack. The flight conditions simulated were Mach numbers from 0.66 to 0.90 at an altitude of 5000 ft. Parent aircraft dive angles of 0 and 45 deg were simulated. (author).

Book Effects of the SCANA Shape No 1 Turret on Separation of Guided MK 84 Weapons and the SUU 30H B Dispenser from the F 111E Aircraft at Transonic Speeds

Download or read book Effects of the SCANA Shape No 1 Turret on Separation of Guided MK 84 Weapons and the SUU 30H B Dispenser from the F 111E Aircraft at Transonic Speeds written by Gary R. Mattasits and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A test was conducted in the Aerodynamic Wind Tunnel (4T) to evaluate the effects of the SCANA (shape No. 1) modification to the F-111 fuselage on store separation characteristics and to determine store aerodynamic coefficients when located at, or near, the inboard and outborad pivot pylons of the F-111 aircraft. Data were obtained at Mach numbers from 0.40 to 1.30 to assess the influence of the aircraft angle of attack, wing-sweep angle, and the presence of the SCANA turret. Trajectory data were obtained on 1/24-scale models of the MK-84 LGB and MK-84 EOGB guided bombs and the SUU-30 H/B dispenser munition. This report contains a description of the test, information to identify the test conditions and configurations for all data taken, and sufficient plotted data to show the various effects on the store model trajectories and aerodynamic loads. Test results indicate no significant alteration in store trajectories when the SCANA turret is added to the F-111E aircraft.
