Book Evaluation of Construction zone Pavement Marking Materials

Download or read book Evaluation of Construction zone Pavement Marking Materials written by Kenneth R. Agent and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objectives of this study were to evaluate available foil-back and removable tapes as well as construction-zone raised pavement markers and to recommend materials that should be included on approved lists for use by the Kentucky Department of Highways. Tapes and markers were placed on transverse test sections and the reflectivity, durability, and appearance were observed. Tapes to be included on the approved lists for foil-back and removable tapes were recommended. Tapes manufactured by 3M, Flex-O-Lite, Cataphote, and Swarolite were included on the list of acceptable foil-back tapes. Recommended removable tapes were the 3M and Cataphote removable tapes. Stimsonite 66 and Flex-O-Lite construction-zone markers were included on the approved list for construction-zone raised pavement markers. More specific guidelines were developed to use in future evaluations of construction-zone preformed tape and markers.

Book Temporary Wet weather Pavement Markings for Work Zones

Download or read book Temporary Wet weather Pavement Markings for Work Zones written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This final report summarizes the work completed during Phase I of the project. The project aims to refine and evaluate a paint and drop-on element-based all-weather pavement marking system customized for work-zone applications. The pavement marking system under development offers unique value in providing superior guidance to the driver under dry and wet weather conditions. The shorter durability requirements in work zones enable a low-cost alternative to existing higher-cost, more durable products.

Book An Assessment of Various Rumble Strip Designs and Pavements Markings Applications for Crosswalks and Work Zones

Download or read book An Assessment of Various Rumble Strip Designs and Pavements Markings Applications for Crosswalks and Work Zones written by Melisa Dayle Finley and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traffic control devices applied to the pavement can provide a significant amount of information for the driver. The objective of this research was to assess the effectiveness of various pavement marking materials, devices, and treatments that have potential to increase driver awareness and safety. The following pavement marking materials, devices, and treatments were investigated as part of this research project: . yellow-green crosswalk material, . in-roadway warning lights, . fluorescent orange retroreflective raised pavement markers, . "removable" pavement marking paint, and . rumble strips. This report includes recommendations for the application of in-roadway warning lights and rumble strips. Further research is needed on the yellow-green crosswalk material, fluorescent orange retroreflective raised pavement markers, and the "removable" pavement marking paint before application guidelines can be developed.

Book Improving Work zone Delineation on Limited Access Highways

Download or read book Improving Work zone Delineation on Limited Access Highways written by Frank D. Shepard and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to investigate vehicle guidance through work zones by evaluating the effectiveness of two primary components of traffic control relative to delineation. First, a comparison of the steady-burn lights presently used on top of the temporary concrete barriers was made with experimental reflectorized panels. Second, the addition of closely spaced raised pavement markers as a supplement to the existing pavement markings was evaluated. The study was limited to work zones on interstates and four-lane highways. The results of this investigation have led to the recommendation that (1) steady-burn lights on temporary concrete barricades should be replaced with reflectorized panels fabricated with high intensity sheeting, and (2) closely spaced, raised pavement markers should be used as a supplement to existing pavement striping in areas where the roadway alignment changes.

Book Effective Removal of Pavement Markings

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Report 759: Effective Removal of Pavement Markings aids in the selection of safe, cost-effective, and environmentally acceptable practices for the removal of work zone and permanent pavement markings. The practices highlighted in this report emphasize minimal damage to the underlying pavement or visible character of the surface course." -- Publisher's description

Book Temporary Pavement Markings Placement and Removal Practices in Work Zones

Download or read book Temporary Pavement Markings Placement and Removal Practices in Work Zones written by Henry Brown (Engineer) and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agencies must consider many factors, such as work zone duration and weather conditions, in selecting appropriate pavement marking materials to effectively guide drivers through work zones. The TRB National Cooperative Highway Research Program's NCHRP Synthesis 574: Temporary Pavement Markings Placement and Removal Practices in Work Zones addresses the need for more knowledge on which different types of temporary markings are suitable for specific conditions.

Book Evaluation of the Converging Chevron Pavement Marking Pattern at One Wisconsin Location

Download or read book Evaluation of the Converging Chevron Pavement Marking Pattern at One Wisconsin Location written by Alex Drakopoulos and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes an evaluation of converging chevron pavement markings in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. The purpose of the chevron markings is to reduce exit ramp speeds by creating the illusion that the vehicle is speeding and the road is narrowing. Some evidence from Japan indicates that chevron markings do have the intended effect of reducing speeds. More research is needed; future studies should be done prospectively.
