Book SHRP Plans for Nondestructive Deflection Testing in the Development of Pavement Performance Prediction Models

Download or read book SHRP Plans for Nondestructive Deflection Testing in the Development of Pavement Performance Prediction Models written by JB. Rauhut and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nondestructive deflection testing using falling weight deflectometers is one element of the monitoring effort planned by the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) for the Long-Term Pavement Performance Studies (LTPP). Nondestructive deflection testing provides data for the backcalculation of moduli for the various pavement structural layers, as well as critically important data on material variability that is expected to be an important independent variable in future pavement performance prediction models. The backcalculated layer moduli are critical to the development of calibrated mechanistic-empirical models for a variety of uses. These moduli must be calculated using standard procedures representing the state of the art. Current studies are aimed at identifying specific problems leading to unacceptable variations in backcalculated moduli when using different computer codes and closure tolerances. It is expected that these studies will provide a wealth of information which will be useful as SHRP planning for the use of deflection testing proceeds. Backcalculated moduli from measurements at a number of locations within a test section are to be used to establish the mean, minimum, maximum, and standard deviation of moduli for each layer. In addition, it is planned that four drop heights will be used to apply four different load levels at a single location. Four load levels should provide the variations in layer moduli with stress sensitivity.

Book SHRP LTPP Data Analysis Studies

Download or read book SHRP LTPP Data Analysis Studies written by William O. Hadley and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the principal objectives of the Strategic Highway Research Program Long-Term Pavement Performance (SHRP-LTPP) study was the development of a comprehensive electronic media database for housing pavement performance data covering a wide range of conditions and service life factors. The database was structured to address pavement management and engineering design issues. The extent and scope of information contained within the LTPP database and Information Management System (IMS) also provides the resources not only to evaluate or revise existing design equations but to develop new ones. During the first 5 years of the SHRP-LTPP program, most issues have been addressed in various data analysis studies. Data analysis studies concerning load equivalency factors, materials and construction variability, rutting initiation studies, and the results of the specific SHRP-LTPP data analysis contracts are presented in subsequent sections of this report. These studies represent initial efforts in pursuit of LTPP goals and operatives and are based primarily on early General Pavement Studies data.

Book Non destructive Testing

Download or read book Non destructive Testing written by and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Non-destructive testing of pavement structures can be achieved by accurately measuring and interpreting deflection data. this paper describes a computer program designed for simple and fast processing of deflection data collected using a falling weight deflectometer (fwd). a set of diagnostic parameters are calculated: first, maximum horizontal strain in the asphalt concrete (ac) under the test load, directly via the corresponding maximum curvature; next, the elastic stiffness (or young's modulus) of the subgrade; and finally, the vertical stress, strain and deflection on top of the subgrade, by means of an improved method of equivalent layer thickness. the actual stresses, strains, and deflections at test conditions can be normalized for standard ac temperature and standard test load. diagnostic and design applications are discussed. comparisons are made with parallel elastic layer analysis computations. for the covering abstract of the conference see irrd 807201.

Book SHRP LTPP Specific Pavement Studies

This book was released on 1994 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Specific Pavement Studies (SPS) portion examines specially constructed pavements, which will help develop better understanding of the effects on performance of a few targeted factors not widely covered in General Pavement Studies (GPS). SPS also explores options for construction of new pavements, the application of maintenance treatments to existing pavements, and the rehabilitation of distressed pavements. This report summarizes the status of SPS as of June 30, 1992.

Book excerpt: The General Pavement Studies (GPS) examine selected in-service pavements and compile data to form a comprehensive national pavement performance database that meets the objectives of the Strategic Highway Research Program's Long-Term Pavement Performance (SHRP-LTPP) project. The purpose of this report is to document the development, evolution, and current status of GPS. Data collection criteria were developed for each of the various data elements in GPS, including traffic, skid resistance, deflection, profile, distress, environment, material properties, and climate. Some data were collected by states, others by the SHRP regional offices.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "TRB's second Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP 2) Report S2-R06D-RR-1: Testing to Identify Delaminations Between HMA Layers, Volume 1 describes development of nondestructive testing (NDT) techniques capable of detecting and quantifying delaminations in HMA pavements. The NDT techniques should be applicable to construction, project design, and network-level assessments. SHRP 2 Report S2-R06D-RW-2 was developed as part of SHRP 2 Renewal Project R06D that generated a sizable amount of documentation regarding the findings of evaluations and equipment development. The report for SHRP 2 Renewal Project R06D is therefore divided into five volumes. Volumes 2 through 5 provide more detailed technical information and are web-only. The topics covered in these volumes are listed below. Volume 2: Theoretical Models Volume 3: Controlled Evaluation Reports Volume 4: Uncontrolled Evaluation Reports Volume 5: Field Core Verification "--Pub. information.

Book Correlation of Nondestructive Pavement Evaluation Test Results with Results of Conventional Quality Control and In Situ Strength Tests on an MX Road Test Section Volume 1 Main Text

Download or read book Correlation of Nondestructive Pavement Evaluation Test Results with Results of Conventional Quality Control and In Situ Strength Tests on an MX Road Test Section Volume 1 Main Text written by Don R. Alexander and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was performed to develop and study relationships between nondestructive test (NDT) results and various pavement parameters such as layer thickness, density, and strength. The use of NDT devices has proven viable for evaluation of conventionally designed rigid and flexible pavements and is seen as a great advance over costly and time-consuming destructive evaluation techniques. These same principles can perhaps be effectively applied to include the evaluation of in-situ soil conditions, unsurfaced design or design verification, and construction quality control. Data for this study were obtained during the construction and traffic testing of a test section built for the purpose of obtaining data to validate and possibly reduce present criteria or develop new criteria for design of roads subjected to the heavy wheel loads associated with a proposed MX missile transporter. The test section measured 250 ft. long by 50 ft. wide by 6 ft. deep and consisted of three traffic lanes with five items per lane. Materials used in constructing the test section included limestone, buckshot clay, silt, Blend I, and Blend II. The blended soils were put together at the Waterways Experiment Station (WES) to simulate gradations anticipated in the proposed construction area. Types of surfacing included unsurfaced blended soils, crushed limestone and silt, cement-stabilized blended soils, lean mix concrete batched from blended soil, and single- and double-bituminous surface treatments.
