Download or read book Evaluation of Peer and Prevention Programs written by David R. Black and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2012-04-27 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whether you are responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating peer and prevention programs or simply an outside consultant or evaluator, this book will be an essential guide for your work. This user-friendly training manual provides a blueprint of a step-by-step approach to setting-up an evaluation program that guides you through the planning, development, implementation, data collection, and organization stages, and then communicating the results to others. The authors establish a rationale for program evaluation, explaining how it differs from research, and discuss ways to align the vision, mission, and goals of a program. They then describe several approaches to evaluation and methods for successfully collecting and analyzing data. Methods for reporting the results are also considered and numerous forms and charts are provided to assist with and illustrate the organization, evaluation, and reporting of data. An accompanying CD contains guidelines, handouts, and forms that can be reproduced for your own use in evaluation.

Book Program Development and Evaluation in Prevention

Download or read book Program Development and Evaluation in Prevention written by Robert K. Conyne and published by SAGE Publications. This book was released on 2012-12-20 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This seventh book in the Prevention Practice Kit illustrates how carefully constructed programs are involved with reaching prevention goals. Using examples and drawing from a clearly presented framework, this book helps readers easily translate concepts of program development and evaluation (PD&E) into doable, practical steps. This book is guided by five tenets: Prevention occurs through programs applied early. A program is comprised of interrelated elements existing within an open system. PD&E involves cyclical phases of planning, implementation and effects, while being infused by the processes of community, collaboration, and cultural relevance. Conducting prevention PD&E relies on both technical and people skills. Effective programs depend on sound processes that are guided by an overall 10-step PD&E in Prevention Model, which include planning the program, implementing process evaluation, and evaluating output. This book is part of the Prevention Practice Kit: Action Guides for Mental Health, a collection of eight books each authored by scholars in the specific field of prevention and edited by Dr. Robert K. Conyne and Dr. Arthur M. Horne. The books in the collection conform to the editors′ outline to promote a consistent reading experience. Designed to provide human services practitioners, counselors, psychologists, social workers, instructors, and students with concrete direction for spreading and improving the practice of prevention, the series provides thorough coverage of prevention application including a general overview of prevention, best practices, diversity and cultural relevance, psychoeducational groups, consultation, program development and evaluation, evidence base, and public policy. This book is endorsed by the Prevention Section of the Society of Counseling Psychology of the American Psychological Association. Fifty percent of all royalties are donated to Division 17 of the APA.

Book Evaluation of a Peer Based Suicide Prevention Program on a College Campus

Download or read book Evaluation of a Peer Based Suicide Prevention Program on a College Campus written by Corie Loiselle and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Suicide has been cited as the second leading cause of death among college students. Many colleges and universities have suicide prevention programs, however, there is little information about the efficacy of such programs. The Blues Project is a peer-based suicide prevention and depression education program for university students with the objectives of increasing student knowledge about the topics of suicide and depression and decreasing the negative stigma that is attached to these topics. To evaluate the efficacy of this program, 185 undergraduate students, who participated in a Blues Project Presentation, completed pretest and posttest surveys. Results indicate significant gains in knowledge about suicide and depression, increased awareness about resources available to students, and a decrease in stigma associated with these topics. These results can be used to further develop and refine suicide-prevention programs such as the Blues Project to increase their efficacy.
