Book Evaluation of MS 6 Fire Resistant Fluid for 8000 PSI Lightweight Hydraulic Systems

Download or read book Evaluation of MS 6 Fire Resistant Fluid for 8000 PSI Lightweight Hydraulic Systems written by Joseph N. Demarchi and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evaluation tests and an application study were conducted on a high temperature, fire-resistant silicone base hydraulic fluid designated NADRAUL MS-6. The information developed was used to determine the practicality of using MS-6 in aircraft 8000 psi lightweight hydraulic systems. The test results indicated that MS-6 can be used in 8000 psi systems, but further development effort is needed to improve pump performance and reduce the tendency of MS-6 to foam. The application study disclosed that no serious design problems would result from the higher viscosity, higher density, and lower bulk modulus of MS-6; weight and space penalties would be incurred, however. Book Development of a High Temperature Silicone Base Fire Resistant Hydraulic Fluid

Download or read book Development of a High Temperature Silicone Base Fire Resistant Hydraulic Fluid written by Alfeo A Conte (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A candidate silicone-base fire-resistant hydraulic fluid designated Nadraul MS-6 has been developed for future military aircraft hydraulic system design. The lubricating ability of this fluid has been demonstrated in hydraulic pump-loop circuit evaluations at 20.7 MPa (3000 PSI) and 55.2 MPa (8000 PSI) fluid pressures and at a fluid temperature as high as 163C (325F). Chemical and physical properties have been determined to establish both specification and hydraulic system design criteria and are reported herein.

Book Evaluation of Candidate Fire resistant Hydraulic Fluids

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objectives of this program were to characterize thirteen candidate hydraulic fluids for flammability, miscibility, elastomer compatibility and steel-on-steel wear, to determine the feasibility of directly substituting a less flammable fluid for the MIL-H-5606 fluid currently used in most military aircraft. Evaluation in a pump test loop has been performed on MIL-H-5606B and on two of the candidate fluids. No completely nonflammable fluid is compatible with MIL-H-5606 fluid or Buna N elastomers. Three of the thirteen fluids are recommended for further consideration: Oronite 8515, Esso 3158, and Dow Corning XF-1-0302. Oronite 8515 shows some improvement in fire resistance over MIL-H-5606B and would not require operational temperature limitations if used as a replacement fluid. Reduced lubricity of highly loaded hydraulic system components (as compared to MIL-H-5606 fluid) is indicated however, by the performance of Oronite 8515 in a pump test loop. Some improvement in fire resistance over MIL-H-5606B and Oronite 8515 is shown by Esso 3158. The greater viscosity and higher pour point of the latter fluid would impose some operational temperature limitations on MIL-H-5606 fluid hydraulic systems. Dow Corning XF-1-0302 fluid shows marked improvement in fire resistance over MIL-H-5606B and is compatible with Buna N elastomers. Pump testing of this fluid is recommended to provide complete evaluation data. (Author).

Book Development of a High Temperature Silicone Base Fire Resistant Fluid for Application in Future Military Aircraft Hydraulic System Designs

Download or read book Development of a High Temperature Silicone Base Fire Resistant Fluid for Application in Future Military Aircraft Hydraulic System Designs written by J. Lee Hammond and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A candidate silicone-base fire-resistant hydraulic fluid designated Nadraul MS-6 has been developed for future military aircraft hydraulic system design. A 500 hour hydraulic pump-loop circuit evaluation of the MS-6 fluid has been successfully completed. Data on this phase of the investigation and the development effort on the MS-6 fluid and an alky-ester siloxane are reported. A design guide is planned based on the physical and chemical properties of MS-6 so that future hydraulic systems can be designed around the properties of this new formulation and thus take advantage of its fire-resistant nature. Book Evaluation of Candidate Fire resistant Hydraulic Fluids

Download or read book Evaluation of Candidate Fire resistant Hydraulic Fluids written by C. A. Seil and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tests were conducted on MIL-H-5606B, Esso 3158, Oronite 8515, and Dow Corning XF-1-0302 fluids contained in tubing at 3,000 psig and in simulated hydraulic reservoirs at 30 psig. U. S. .50-caliber armor-piercing incendiary ammunition was used against these fluids. Results of the tests show a significant reduction in both amount and duration of flame for each of the candidate fluids. The vulnerability of seven structural modifications of simulated hydraulic reservoirs containing MIL-H-5606B fluid were evaluated and compared with conventional aluminum reservoirs. Two of the configurations warrant further design optimization studies. These are (1) molded-laminated-rubber construction over aluminum, and (2) glass filament-wound construction with a sheet rubber stock overwrap.

Book Fire Resistant Hydraulic Fluids and Fire Resistance Test Methods Used by the Air Force

Download or read book Fire Resistant Hydraulic Fluids and Fire Resistance Test Methods Used by the Air Force written by CE. Snyder and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concern about the fire resistance of hydraulic fluids by the Air Force and the rest of the Department of Defense (DoD) dates back to the introduction of the mineral oil based hydraulic fluid, MIL-H-5606 [1], into aircraft hydraulic systems. This concern has led to the development of two fire resistant hydraulic fluids that can be directly substituted into aircraft hydraulic systems that were designed to use MIL-H-5606, i.e., MIL-H-83282 [2] and MIL-H-87257 [3], and a nonflammable hydraulic fluid, MTL-H-53119 [4], that can be used only in hydraulic systems that were designed for that fluid or in subsystems originally designed for MIL-H-5606, MIL-H-83282 or MIL-H-87257, for which re-design of the components and retrofit of the system with compatible seals, if required, would be cost effective. Another fire resistant hydraulic fluid was developed for use in commercial aircraft hydraulic systems, a phosphate ester based hydraulic fluid described by Society of Automotive Engineers document AS1241, Fire Resistant Phosphate Ester Hydraulic Fluid for Aircraft The fire resistant properties of these fire resistant and nonflammable hydraulic fluids are discussed and the flammability test methods are presented.
