Book Evaluation of Low Cycle Creep Fatigue Degradation for Notched Components

Download or read book Evaluation of Low Cycle Creep Fatigue Degradation for Notched Components written by Tait RA and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Four approaches have been examined to predict the endurance of circumferentially notched, uniaxially loaded test pieces subjected to fully reversed strain-controlled cyclic loading at elevated temperatures. Results are compared with uniaxial data derived from smooth test pieces. The strain-time waveforms include both trapezoidal and triangular shapes to distinguish between fatigue and fatigue-creep damage. The four materials investigated are HP-45 (1144 K), Incoloy 800H (1144 K), Incoloy 800 (922 K), and 11⁄4Cr-1⁄2Mo (811 K). The analysis has reflected the various degrees of cyclic hardening and creep deformation exhibited by these materials. The predictive approaches include Neuber notch strain analysis and finite element analyses to identify the maximum plastic strain range, the equivalent plastic strain range, and the total plastic work per cycle.

Book Notch Effect on Low Cycle Fatigue in Creep Fatigue at High Temperatures

Download or read book Notch Effect on Low Cycle Fatigue in Creep Fatigue at High Temperatures written by Kitagawa M and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper describes the notch effect on low cycle fatigue in creep-fatigue conditions by experiments and finite element method (FEM) analysis. FEM analyses for cyclic and monotonic loadings were made, and the analytical results were compared with the measured strain at the notch root using a high temperature strain gage. The calculated strain by FEM agreed well with the measured strain if we used the proper FEM model and proper constitutive equation. In order to examine the accuracy of life prediction by FEM analysis, low cycle fatigue tests were also carried out using SUS 304 stainless steel for notched plate and notched round bar specimens. Life prediction by FEM analysis had sufficient accuracy; the applicability of other conventional life prediction methods was also discussed.

Book Some Contributions to the Further Development of Low Cycle Fatigue Life Analysis Concepts for Notched Components Under Variable Amplitude Loading

Download or read book Some Contributions to the Further Development of Low Cycle Fatigue Life Analysis Concepts for Notched Components Under Variable Amplitude Loading written by Nowack H and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to minimize the expenses of the development of engineering components and to reduce the risk of their operation, reliable fatigue life prediction methods have to be available in the design stage. Presently two groups of methods can be distinguished which explicitly account for the local stresses/strains in the fatigue critical areas: the so-called notch analysis concepts or "local approaches," and new developments which are based on finite element methods (FEM).

Book Fatigue under Thermal and Mechanical Loading Mechanisms Mechanics and Modelling

Download or read book Fatigue under Thermal and Mechanical Loading Mechanisms Mechanics and Modelling written by J. Bressers and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Symposium "Fatigue under Thermal and Mechanical Loading", held at Petten (The Netherlands) on May 22-24, 1995, was jointly organized by the Institute for Advanced Materials of The Joint Research Centre, E. C. , and by the Societe Fran~se de Metallurgie et de Materiaux. The fast heating and cooling cycles experienced by many high temperature components cause thermally induced stresses, which often operate in combination with mechanical loads. The resulting thermal / mechanical fatigue cycle leads to material degradation mechanisms and failure modes typical of service cycles. The growing awareness that the synergism between the combined thermal and mechanical loads can not be reproduced by means of isothermal tests, has resulted in an increasing interest in thermal and thermo-mechanical fatigue testing. This trend has been reinforced by the constant pull by industry for more performant, yet safer high temperature systems, pushing the materials to the limit of their properties. Dedicated ASTM meetings in particular have set the scene for this area of research. The proceedings of the symposium organized by D. A. Spera and D. F. Mowbray in 1975 provided a reference book on thermal fatigue which reflects the knowledge and experimental capabilities of the mid-seventies.

Book Fatigue of Structures and Materials

Download or read book Fatigue of Structures and Materials written by J. Schijve and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-12-16 with total page 627 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fatigue of structures and materials covers a wide scope of different topics. The purpose of the present book is to explain these topics, to indicate how they can be analyzed, and how this can contribute to the designing of fatigue resistant structures and to prevent structural fatigue problems in service. Chapter 1 gives a general survey of the topic with brief comments on the signi?cance of the aspects involved. This serves as a kind of a program for the following chapters. The central issues in this book are predictions of fatigue properties and designing against fatigue. These objectives cannot be realized without a physical and mechanical understanding of all relevant conditions. In Chapter 2 the book starts with basic concepts of what happens in the material of a structure under cyclic loads. It illustrates the large number of variables which can affect fatigue properties and it provides the essential background knowledge for subsequent chapters. Different subjects are presented in the following main parts: • Basic chapters on fatigue properties and predictions (Chapters 2–8) • Load spectra and fatigue under variable-amplitude loading (Chapters 9–11) • Fatigue tests and scatter (Chapters 12 and 13) • Special fatigue conditions (Chapters 14–17) • Fatigue of joints and structures (Chapters 18–20) • Fiber-metal laminates (Chapter 21) Each chapter presents a discussion of a speci?c subject.

Book Damage Development During Multiaxial Fatigue of Unnotched and Notched Specimens

Download or read book Damage Development During Multiaxial Fatigue of Unnotched and Notched Specimens written by Fash JW and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life prediction methodologies based on low-cycle fatigue concepts are well established for the evaluation of component fatigue behavior. A critical assumption made in applying these concepts is that the fatigue damage process in the critical region of the component is similar to that which occurs in the smooth specimen used to characterize the material fatigue behavior. This approach has been verified experimentally for uniaxial loading conditions but methods for applying these concepts to multiaxial fatigue problems are not yet established.

Book Fatigue Strength and Evaluation of Creep Damage During Fatigue Cycling of Inconel Alloy 625

Download or read book Fatigue Strength and Evaluation of Creep Damage During Fatigue Cycling of Inconel Alloy 625 written by and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evaluation of high strain rate and corresponding low strain rate tests indicate no creep-fatigue interaction. For T greater than or equal to 900°C, creep damage predominates during the cyclic straining. For tests in which creep damage is largely suppressed - for example in high-frequency reverse bend fatigue tests - the cycles to fatigue failure were found to increase directly with the degree of suppression of creep damage. However, a practical limit exists for suppression of creep damage at 1100°C; at that temperature, even for the high frequency reverse bend tests (approx. 1000 rpm with .sigma. = 12.3% s−1), the creep damage predominated over the fatigue damage.
