Book Evaluation of Prestress Losses in an Innovative Prestressed Precast Pavement System

Download or read book Evaluation of Prestress Losses in an Innovative Prestressed Precast Pavement System written by Brent M. Davis and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To date no streamlined user efficient concrete roadway rehabilitation method is in practice in the United States. However, the use precast pavement is being evaluated and successful projects in Georgetown, Texas, El Monte, California, and most recently Charleston, Missouri are paving the way for the use of prestressed precast concrete pavement. The use of prestressed precast concrete pavement for the replacement of damaged roadways gives contractors and designers significant advantage by decreasing construction time, improving pavement performance, and mitigating user cost. The project in Charleston, Missouri, funded by the FHWA and MoDOT, is the focus of this thesis. A total of 101 panels were cast and seven were instrumented to monitor temperature and strain. The objectives set forth were to understand important properties of the materials used, study losses due to creep and shrinkage of precast pavement panels, and develop pre and post-tension loss prediction models and compare them to actual values measured in the pavement. Concurrent works by Cody Dailey and Grant Luckenbill examine early age performance of the precast panels and analyze strains relating to daily thermal gradients, seasonal trends, and traffic.

Book Prestressed Pavement

Download or read book Prestressed Pavement written by Shiraz D. Tayabji and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A computerized procedure for the thickness design of "zero-maintenance" prestressed pavements is presented. Factors considered in developing the design procedure include traffic loading, temperature and moisture variations in concrete slab, loss of subbase support, properties of concrete, subbase and subgrade, and effective mid-slab prestress. The procedure is based on flexural stress analysis and prevention of bottom transverse cracking that may initiate from the longitudinal edge of the slab in the vicinity of midslab. Input for the computer program include axle load distribution, wheel placement, traffic distribution during the day, temperature data, load transfer effectiveness, and effective prestress at mid-slab. Program output is in terms of total fatigue consumption at the end of design life. If the fatigue consumption is less than 100 percent, then the thickness meets design criteria. A design example is presented for a rural four-lane highway in Illinois.

Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, SIld disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna and broader dissemination. tional publishing house to assure improved service Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 30 (thesis year 1985) a total of 12,400 theses titles from 26 Canadian and 186 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work.
