Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Report 750, Volume 3: Strategic Issues Facing Transportation, Volume 3: Expediting Future Technologies for Enhancing Transportation System Performance presents the systematic technology reconnaissance, evaluation, and adoption methodology (STREAM). STREAM is a process that transportation agencies can use to identify, assess, shape, and adopt new and emerging technologies to help achieve long-term system performance objectives. The process reflects relevant trends in technologies and their applications and is designed to help transportation agencies anticipate, adapt to, and shape the future. NCHRP Report 750, Volume 3 is the third in a series of reports being produced by NCHRP Project 20-83: Long-Range Strategic Issues Facing the Transportation Industry. Major trends affecting the future of the United States and the world will dramatically reshape transportation priorities and needs. The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) established the NCHRP Project 20-83 research series to examine global and domestic long-range strategic issues and their implications for state departments of transportation (DOTs); AASHTO's aim for the research series is to help prepare the DOTs for the challenges and benefits created by these trends." -- publisher's description

Download or read book Intelligent Transportation Systems ITS Concepts for Rural Corridor Management written by Micah Henry and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Arizona Department of Transportation's (ADOT's) SPR-570: Rural ITS Progress Study - Arizona 2004 provided 20 key recommendations for improved utilization of the rural Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) infrastructure. Two years later, in reviewing the outcomes of the 2004 study and the ongoing rural technology deployments, the Department identified several of the key concerns as still being unresolved. In general, ADOT has been successful in implementing the recommendations of the 2004 statewide review, but five areas of unmet needs or unfulfilled potential remain. These five gap areas are the primary focus of this new research project, to fully implement the potential of all of the recommendations from the 2004 study. The five primary focus areas are: ITS maintenance, weather information systems, highway advisory radio, motorist assist patrols, and information sharing. The research team interviewed the project's stakeholders from Arizona's rural districts to identify recent changes in their ITS deployment, goals, and visions for future deployment, as well as current needs and desires since the previous 2004 study. The investigators also reviewed the current practices and concepts of rural ITS among other transportation agencies throughout the country. This included conducting personal interviews with recognized industry leaders, attending industry conferences, and performing extensive research in literature, products (both off-the-shelf and in-development), and on-line. Based on the interviews and state-of-the-practice research components, the investigators developed a list of ITS concepts that might service the rural needs of the Department. Each of the five focus areas contains several concepts that address needs identified as original project goals, or new topics identified during the field interviews. Each discussion section provides a conceptual approach and application of ITS technology or state-of-the-practice development, a breakdown of benefits and challenges for implementation, implementation recommendations and a breakdown of the engineer's opinion of cost. Each concept has been ranked by the project advisory group based on implementation priority. A potential process owner and potential resources for deployment are also identified.

This book was released on 2010-07-27 with total page 631 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineers have a range of sophisticated techniques at their disposal to evaluate the condition of reinforced concrete structures and non-destructive evaluation plays a key part in assessing and prioritising where money should be spent on repair or replacement of structurally deficient reinforced concrete structures. Non-destructive evaluation of reinforced concrete structures, Volume 2: Non-destructive testing methods reviews the latest non-destructive testing techniques for reinforced concrete structures and how they are used.Part one discusses planning and implementing non-destructive testing of reinforced concrete structures with chapters on non-destructive testing methods for building diagnosis, development of automated NDE systems, structural health monitoring systems and data fusion. Part two reviews individual non-destructive testing techniques including wireless monitoring, electromagnetic and acoustic-elastic waves, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy, acoustic emission evaluation, magnetic flux leakage, electrical resistivity, capacimetry, measuring the corrosion rate (polarization resistance) and the corrosion potential of reinforced concrete structures, ground penetrating radar, radar tomography, active thermography, nuclear magnetic resonance imaging, stress wave propagation, impact-echo, surface and guided wave techniques and ultrasonics. Part three covers case studies including inspection of concrete retaining walls using ground penetrating radar, acoustic emission and impact echo techniques and using ground penetrating radar to assess an eight-span post-tensioned viaduct. With its distinguished editor and international team of contributors, Non-destructive evaluation of reinforced concrete structures, Volume 2: Non-destructive testing methods is a standard reference for civil and structural engineers as well as those concerned with making decisions regarding the safety of reinforced concrete structures. - Reviews the latest non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques and how they are used in practice - Explores the process of planning a non-destructive program features strategies for the application of NDT testing - A specific section outlines significant advances in individual NDT techniques and features wireless monitoring and electromagnetic and acoustic-elastic wave technology
