Book excerpt: Nous avons évalué le niveau d'activité physique de la population du Schéma de COhérence Territoriale (SCoT) Le Havre Pointe de Caux Estuaire. L'étude a été réalisée à l'aide d'un questionnaire utilisant un instrument de mesure validé, l'International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) et permettant une évaluation de l'activité physique globale (activité physique de loisir, activité sportive, activité physique au travail, activités de la vie quotidienne, transport), auprès de 695 patients ayant consulté dans les cabinets de médecine générale participant à notre enquête. 49,3% des patients pratiquent une activité physique favorable à la santé. Les individus les plus âgés, les individus souffrant de certaines pathologies chroniques (diabète, hypercholestérolémie, obésité) et ceux ayant des activités sédentaires de longue durée sont moins susceptibles d'atteindre un niveau de pratique favorable à la santé. Le profil des patients pratiquant un sport habituellement est différent de celui des patients pratiquant une activité physique favorable à la santé. Dans notre enquête, le sexe, la situation familiale, le milieu d'habitation, le fait de travailler à temps complet ou à temps partiel n'influencent pas le niveau d'activité physique ni la pratique sportive. On note une très forte augmentation du temps passé assis chez les nouvelles générations par rapport à leurs aînés. Les patients méconnaissent les bénéfices de la pratique d'une activité physique modérée régulière sur certaines pathologies comme le cancer, le diabète de type II, l'hypercholestérolémie et les pathologies neuropsychiques. Ils pensent à tort qu'il faut faire plus d'une heure d'activité physique par jour pour avoir des bénéfices. 84% d'entre eux considèrent que les médecins généralistes ont un rôle à jouer dans la promotion de l'activité physique, mais idéalement cette promotion relèverait d'actions concertées multisectorielles : santé, éducation, structures sportives, transports, entreprises...
