Book excerpt: Il existe peu de données dans la littérature concernant la qualité des traitements et retraitements endodontiques réalisés par les endodontistes. Dans le cadre d'une évaluation des pratiques professionnelles, une étude de la qualité des traitements et retraitements endodontiques et des facteurs influençant cette qualité a été réalisée dans la consultation spécialisée d'endodontie du service d'Odontologie du CHU de Clermont-Ferrand. Entre Septembre 2017 et Juillet 2018, 129 patients (146 dents) ont été reçus au sein de la consultation. Soixante-dix-huit traitements ou retraitements endodontiques ont été réalisés. L'évaluation de la qualité technique des traitements réalisés portait sur la longueur et la densité de l'obturation, ainsi que sur l'obturation de l'intégralité du réseau canalaire. Différents critères (type de dent, intervention antérieure du praticien référent, difficulté du traitement endodontique et index péri-apical) ont également été relevés. 46,8% des traitements répondaient aux critères académiques de qualité. Le type de dent et l'intervention antérieure d'un praticien (ou étudiant) influençaient statistiquement ce résultat. Il a été mis en évidence la nécessité d'évaluation de la difficulté du traitement ou retraitement endodontique en préopératoire. Ainsi, selon les compétences du praticien et le plateau technique à disposition, une orientation vers un endodontiste peut être indiquée en amont de la réalisation du traitement. De plus, l'identification du diagnostic, véritable motif d'initiation d'un traitement doit être généralisée. Ce travail doit être complété d'une étude à plus long terme visant à évaluer l'efficacité biologique des traitements ou retraitements endodontiques réalisés.
