Book Water Technology and Development

Download or read book Water Technology and Development written by Martin Hvidt and published by I.B.Tauris. This book was released on 1998-12-31 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Egyptian agriculture is uniquely dependent on water, with over 95 per cent of agricultural production originating from land irrigated by the Nile. The improvement of irrigation systems and better control over water by farmers is therefore crucial to the drive to raise productivity in the current ocntext of scarce water resources, rich but underutilized land and changes in the institutional environment of the economy after "liberalization". This text evaluates the ambitious state-of-the-art Irrigation Improvement Project (IIP) and should be of interest to all those concerned with issues of water and development in the Middle East.

Book On farm Irrigation System Evaluation

Download or read book On farm Irrigation System Evaluation written by Ron Mansfield and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this report we review the irrigation system evaluation study conducted by the El Dorado Irrigation District's (EID) Irrigation Management Service (IMS) during the summer of 1981. We conducted this study, following several years of crop irrigation research and six years of scheduling experience with the El Dorado IMS to better understand the operation of farm irrigation systems, the efficiency of these systems and the effect upon agricultural water conservation within the EID service area. Information gathered during this project documents the current on-farm situation with regard to irrigation system types, management practices, and operational efficiencies. This information is presently being used to teach farmers how to efficiently use and improve their irrigation systems and practices. We expect that once this information has been properly presented to farmers they will adopt the water budget approach to irrigation management.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The principal objective of surface irrigation systems evaluation is to identify management practices and system configurations that is feasible and effective to improve irrigation efficiency. Evaluation plays a fundamental role in improving surface irrigation systems by providing the information required for design, model validation and advising irrigators on how to improve their systems and management practices. The technical performance of the schemes was evaluated by considering conveyance efficiency, application efficiency, dependability of irrigation interval and sustainability of irrigation. Moreover, availability of institutional and support services, market availability and conflict management were investigated through questionnaire administered to beneficiary farmers and other stakeholders. The conveyance loss in Sanka traditional irrigation is greater than Golina modern irrigation scheme but in Sanka participation of farmers and sense of ownership is rated to be 100%.Therefore, if proper canal and canal structures are in place and water users associations are empowered more in order for it to enforce its bylaws it will augment the efficiency of the scheme exceedingly.

Book Final evaluation of Enhancing Agriculture Production through Irrigation System Improvement and Strengthening Institutional Capacity

Download or read book Final evaluation of Enhancing Agriculture Production through Irrigation System Improvement and Strengthening Institutional Capacity written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2020-02-07 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rice and potatoes are Afghanistan’s two most staple crops after wheat. Rice production is dependent on water from irrigation canals, with most of Afghanistan’s irrigation infrastructure in disrepair, farmers are vulnerable. Between 2016 and 2018, FAO in Afghanistan (FAOAF) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) rehabilitated irrigation infrastructure and laid the foundations of a virus-free potato seed industry in three provinces (Kunduz, Baghlan and Takhar). The project enhanced food production and contributed to the Government’s agricultural development and food security objectives. The evaluation recommends that future irrigation rehabilitation includes training to demonstrate improved cropping practices to help farmers build their resilience to external shocks. Training of potato farmers and enterprises involved in the industry will help determine the sustainability of the industry beyond the end of the project.

Book Agricultural Irrigation

Download or read book Agricultural Irrigation written by Aliasghar Montazar and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2019-11-28 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agriculture is certainly the most important food supplier while it globally accounts for more than 70% of water used and contributes significantly to water pollution. Irrigated agriculture is facing rising competition worldwide for access to reliable, low cost, and high-quality water resources. However, irrigation as the major tool and determinant of affecting agricultural productivity and environmental resources plays a critical role in food security and environment sustainability. Innovative irrigation technologies and practices may enhance agricultural water efficiency and production, in the meantime decrease the water demand and quality issues. I am very pleased to invite you to submit manuscripts in agricultural irrigation which assess current challenges and offer improvement approaches and opportunities for future irrigation.

Book Modernizing Irrigation Management

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication describes the MASSCOTE methodology, illustrated by several applications in Asia. MASSCOTE is a comprehensive methodology for analysing the modernization of canal operation. The aim is to enable experts to work together with users in determining improved processes for cost-effective service-oriented management. It is based on previous tools and approaches widely used in Asia by FAO in its modernization training programme (rapid appraisal procedures and benchmarking). From diagnosis through the formulation of operational units and the planning of a service (based on the vision agreed upon with the users), MASSCOTE entails a systematic, ten-step, mapping exercise.
