This book was released on 1974 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume I of this report presents the results of a research program to evaluate and develop water-theories for engineering application. Volume II presents wave tables developed for preliminary design in offshore problems. Volume I describes: (1) an evaluation of the degree to which various available wave theories satisfy the nonlinear water-wave mathematical formulation and (2) a comparison of water particle velocities measured in the laboratory with those predicted by a number of available wave theories. The results indicated that Dean's Stream-Function Wave Theory provided generally better agreement with both the mathematical formulation and the laboratory data. Volume I also includes a number of examples illustrating the application of the wave tables (described below) to offshore design problems. Based on the evaluation phase described above, a set of wave tables was developed and is presented as Volume II. The tables consist of dimensionless quantities which describe the kinematic and dynamic fields of a two-dimensional progressive water wave. In addition, quantities are included which are directly applicable to frequently required design calculations and also parameters which should be of interest to the researcher and scientist. (Author)

Download or read book Introduction To Coastal Engineering And Management Third Edition written by J William Kamphuis and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2020-05-29 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based on the author's 49 years of experience as a practicing coastal engineer and 34 years as professor of coastal engineering and management at Queen's University. The book is therefore thoroughly practical in nature, but it also reflects newly relevant issues, such as consequences of failure, impacts of rising sea levels, aging infrastructure, real estate development, and contemporary decision making, design and education. This textbook is useful for undergraduate students, postgraduate students and practicing engineers. It covers waves, structures, sediment movement, coastal management, and contemporary coastal design and decision making. It presents both basic principles and engineering solutions. It discusses the traditional methods of analysis and synthesis (design), but also contemporary design methodologies, such as working with environmental impacts. The second edition expanded greatly on the topics of failure and resilience that surfaced as a result of recent disasters from hurricane surges and tsunamis. It updated the discussion of design and decision making for the 21st century, with many new examples. This third edition develops some of these topics further, but its largest new changes is the chapter on climate change. This chapter presents the basics of climate change and then goes on to stress the practical implications of the impacts of climate change, focusing on what is of importance to coastal and fluvial specialists.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Treatise on Materials Science and Technology, Volume 28: Materials for Marine Systems and Structures provides an integrated approach, utilizing the environmental information of the ocean scientists, materials science, and structural integrity principles as they apply to offshore structures and ships. The book discusses the materials and their performance in marine systems and structures; the marine environment; and marine befouling. The text also describes marine corrosion; corrosion control; metallic materials for marine structures; and concrete marine structures. Materials for mooring systems and fracture control for marine structures are also considered. Professional scientists and engineers, as well as graduate students in the fields of ocean and marine engineering and naval architecture and associated fields will find the book useful.
Download or read book Basic Coastal Engineering written by Robert Sorensen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 20 years since publication of the first edition of this book there have been a number of significant changes in the practice of coastal engineering. This new edition has been completely rewritten to reflect these changes as well as to make other improvements to the material presented in the original text. _ Basic Coastal Engineering is an introductory text on wave mechanics and coastal processes along with the fundamentals of the practice of coa~tal engi neering. This book was written for a senior or first postgraduate course in coastal engineering. It is also suitable for self study by anyone having a basic engineering or physical science background. The level of coverage does not require a math or fluid mechanics background beyond that presented in a typical undergraduate civil or mechanical engineering curriculum. The material presented in this text is based on the author's lecture notes from a one-semester course at Virginia Pol ytechnic Institute, Texas A&M University, and George Washington University, and a senior elective course at Lehigh University. The text contains examples to demonstrate the various analysis techniques that are presented and each chapter (except the first and last) has a collection of problems for the reader to solve that further demonstrate and expand upon the text material. Chapter 1 briefly describes the coastal environment and introduces the rela tively new field of coastal engineering.
