Book Reforms and Economic Transformation in India

Download or read book Reforms and Economic Transformation in India written by Jagdish Bhagwati and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2012-10-05 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reforms and Economic Transformation in India is the second volume in the series Studies in Indian Economic Policies. The first volume, India's Reforms: How They Produced Inclusive Growth (OUP, 2012), systematically demonstrated that reforms-led growth in India led to reduced poverty among all social groups. They also led to shifts in attitudes whereby citizens overwhelmingly acknowledge the benefits that accelerated growth has brought them and as voters, they now reward the governments that deliver superior economic outcomes and punish those that fail to do so. This latest volume takes as its starting point the fact that while reforms have undoubtedly delivered in terms of poverty reduction and associated social objectives, the impact has not been as substantial as seen in other reform-oriented economies such as South Korea and Taiwan in the 1960s and 1970s, and more recently, in China. The overarching hypothesis of the volume is that the smaller reduction in poverty has been the result of slower transformation of the economy from a primarily agrarian to a modern, industrial one. Even as the GDP share of agriculture has seen rapid decline, its employment share has declined very gradually. More than half of the workforce in India still remains in agriculture. In addition, non-farm workers are overwhelmingly in the informal sector. Against this background, the nine original essays by eminent economists pursue three broad themes using firm level data in both industry and services. The papers in part I ask why the transformation in India has been slow in terms of the movement of workers out of agriculture, into industry and services, and from informal to formal employment. They address what India needs to do to speed up this transformation. They specifically show that severe labor-market distortions and policy bias against large firms has been a key factor behind the slow transformation. The papers in part II analyze the transformation that reforms have brought about within and across enterprises. For example, they investigate the impact of privatization on enterprise profitability. Part III addresses the manner in which the reforms have helped promote social transformation. Here the papers analyze the impact the reforms have had on the fortunes of the socially disadvantaged groups in terms of wage and education outcomes and as entrepreneurs.

Download or read book Dynamical Chaos written by Vadim Semenovich Anishchenko and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1995 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, bifurcational mechanisms of the development, structure and properties of chaotic attractors are investigated by numerical and physical experiments based on the methods of the modern theory of nonlinear oscillations. The typical bifurcations of regular and chaotic attractors which are due to parameter variations are analyzed.Regularities of the transition to chaos via the collapse of quasiperiodic oscillations with two and three frequencies are investigated in detail. The book deals with the problems of chaotic synchronization, interaction of attractors and the phenomenon of stochastic resonance. The problems of fluctuation influence on the bifurcations and properties of chaotic attractors are investigated more closely. All principal problems are investigated by the comparison of theoretical and numerical results and data from physical experiments.

Book The Fluctuating Sea

Download or read book The Fluctuating Sea written by Saygin Salgirli and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-08-12 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume fluctuates between conceptualizations of movement; either movements that buildings in the medieval Mediterranean facilitated, or the movements of the users and audiences of architecture. From medieval Anatolia to Southern France and the Genoese colony of Pera across Constantinople, The Fluctuating Sea investigates how the relationship between movement and the experiences of a multiplicity of users with different social backgrounds can provide a new perspective on architectural history. The book acknowledges the shared characteristics of medieval Mediterranean architecture, but it also argues that for the majority of people inhabiting the fragmented microecologies of the Mediterranean, architecture was a highly localized phenomenon. It is the connectivity of such localized experiences that The Fluctuating Sea uncovers. The Fluctuating Sea is a valuable source for students and scholars of the medieval Mediterranean and architectural history.

Download or read book 2028 End written by Gabriel Erb and published by . This book was released on 2019-07-12 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God created a game - it's called The Game of Life. Planet Earth is the playing field, the 10 love commandments are the rules, and we humans are the players who can win or lose. The game is played by two teams, like the game of football. One team's head coach is Jesus and the other team's head coach is Satan. All of us on earth are playing for one of these two teams! Gabriel Ansley Erb wrote the book "2028 END" in order to fully elucidate God's game clock scenario for The Game of Life as contained in the game's handbook, the Holy Bible. The handbook says, "God declared the end from the beginning" (Isaiah 46:10) by using 7 days in the creation event. Each 24 hour creation day foretold of a future 1,000 year period for a total 7,000 year plan God had for The Game of Life to be played on planet earth. And amazingly, to confirm this is all true, God hid a secret prophesy in each creation day foretelling the greatest event He had planned to occur in that day's future millennium!Consequently, Creation day 1 foretold Adam & Eve's fall, which was fulfilled during earth's 1st millennium. Creation day 2 foretold Noah's global flood, which was fulfilled during earth's 2nd millennium. Creation day 3 foretold Moses' Red Sea parting, which was fulfilled during earth's 3rd millennium. Creation day 4 foretold of John the Baptist & Jesus Christ, and so they lived and died during earth's 4th millennium. And the prophecies continue with each Creation day!Gabriel proves all of the above, carefully revealing the prophetic Scriptures as well as the fulfillment Scriptures. Then he reveals a dozen Scriptures proving Christ died earth's 4,000 year and will return earth's 6,000 year. Finally, he proves Christ died Feast of Passover AD 28 and will return Feast of Trumpets 2028. For those who read this book, it is an open and shut case: The Game of Life will end 2,000 years from the year of Christ's death on the cross - AD 2028.

Book ISO 14001

Download or read book ISO 14001 written by Riva Krut and published by Earthscan Publications. This book was released on 1998 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ISO 14001 is the new industrial standard for environmental management systems, recently introduced and being adopted by businesses worldwide. The authors present a fundamental critique of ISO 14001, showing how much it might have achieved and how little it is likely to deliver, and explaining how the process of establishing it restricted its effectiveness. They argue that ISO 14001 does little or nothing to measure or improve environmental performance, and that its effect may even be to undermine the limited progress to date in agreeing international standards of environmental impacts and performance

Book Environmental Management Systems

Download or read book Environmental Management Systems written by Standards Australia (Organization) and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Specifies the requirements for an environmental management system that an organization can use to enhance its environmental performance. It is intended for use by an organization seeking to manage its environmental responsibilities in a systematic manner that contributes to the environmental pillar of sustainability. This standard helps an organization achieve the intended outcomes of its environmental management system, which provide value for the environment, the organization itself and interested parties. This standard is applicable to any organization, regardless of size, type and nature, and applies to the environmental aspects of its activities, products and services that the organization determines it can either control or influence considering a life cycle perspective. ISO 14001:2015 does not state specific environmental performance criteria. It can be used in whole or in part to systematically improve environmental management. Claims of conformity to this standard, however, are not acceptable unless all its requirements are incorporated into the environmental management system and fulfilled without exclusion. Identical to, and reproduced from, ISO 14001:2015.
