Book excerpt: Group Therapy for High-Conflict Divorce: A Workbook for the 'No Kids in the Middle' Intervention Programme is an essential resource for reframing the divorce process to centre the child. This workbook supports parents and practitioners using the No Kids in the Middle intervention programme, a multi-family approach for high-conflict divorce that aims to reduce psychosocial adjustment problems among children. Bridging the gap between therapy sessions and daily life, it offers exercises, testimonials and tips to stimulate parents to reflect on their own behaviour from a child’s perspective. Alongside the core text Group Therapy for High-Conflict Divorce (2021), this will be a vital tool in a mediation process that aims to identify and end destructive patterns, to increase acceptance and to establish parenting plans to ensure the wellbeing of children. This book will be of interest to parents going through divorce as well as to social workers and family therapists who are looking for practical guidance to support their clients. The variety of tools contained in this workbook supplement Group Therapy for High-Conflict Divorce and will aid those working through the No Kids in the Middle programme.

Book A Pilot Evaluation of a Community based Group Intervention for Children Affected by Divorce

Download or read book A Pilot Evaluation of a Community based Group Intervention for Children Affected by Divorce written by Rotem Regev and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effectiveness of the Caught in the Middle (CIM) program was evaluated in asample of 7 parent-child dyads who had recently experienced marital separation. Changes in children's feelings before and after program participation concerning the normative frequency of divorce, coping skills, stress, self-blame, and triangulation were assessed. Feeling supported, enjoying participation and practicing skills were assessed postintervention. Changes in parents' feelings before and after the program concerning their satisfaction with CIM, their and their children's stress levels, were assessed. Feeling supported, being informed about the effects of divorce, and application of skills taught for their own and their children's benefit were reported at group culmination. Results demonstrate a significant decrease from pre- to post-test in parents' perceptions of children's stress levels. Although other research hypotheses were not supported, it is argued that initial evidence for the effectiveness of the CIM program was demonstrated. Clinical significance and implications are discussed.

Book Overcoming Parent Child Contact Problems

Download or read book Overcoming Parent Child Contact Problems written by Abigail M. Judge and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016-10-05 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years there has been heightened interest in the clinical and legal management of families in which children resist contact with one parent and become aligned with the other following divorce. Families affected by these dynamics require disproportionate resources and time from mental health and legal professionals, and cases require a specialized clinical approach. Traditional models of individual and family therapy are not designed to address these issues, and strategies and resources for mental health and legal professionals have been extremely limited. Overcoming Parent-Child Contact Problems describes interventions for families experiencing a high conflict divorce impasse where a child is resisting contact with a parent. It examines in detail one such intervention, the Overcoming Barriers approach, involving the entire family and combining psycho-education and clinical intervention. The book is divided into two parts: Part I presents an overview of parental alienation, including clinical approaches and a critical analysis of the many challenges associated with traditional outpatient family-based interventions. Part II presents the Overcoming Barriers approach, describing core aspects of the intervention and ways to adapt its clinical techniques to outpatient practice. Overcoming Parent-Child Contact Problems is geared toward mental health clinicians and legal professionals who work with families in high conflict and where a child resists visitation with a parent.

Book The Effectiveness of an Alternative Divorce Group Model Intervention Program

Download or read book The Effectiveness of an Alternative Divorce Group Model Intervention Program written by Alfred Frank Cialfi (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to determine to what extent an alternative divorce group model for children could reduce the negative reactions they experienced from their parents' divorce. the participants included were males and females in grades four, five, and six. All children experienced a parental divorce within two years prior to the group sessions. After using a pretest - post-test control group design, and applying a t-test for the subjects, it was found that there was a significant difference between the experimental and control group at the start of the experiment. A separate two-by-two repeated measures analysis of covariance tests was performed, with the second test score as the covariate in order to control for the differences between the samples. While not all results indicated improvement on various instruments administered, of most importance, it was found that after the eight-week alternative model was conducted, the experimental group showed a significant reduction in their level of anxiety. the children consistently shared their reactions to their parents' divorce. They frequently became emotional while seeking support from peers. Group sessions were therapeutic as they provided the children with the opportunity to display feelings such as sadness, anger, and happiness. the children also expressed positive reactions to the group leader throughout the eight-week program. Specifically, they indicated that the groups were helpful and made them feel better. Parents and teachers of the children also communicated that the children enjoyed the sessions and always looked forward to participating in them.
