Book Evaluating the Confidence Interval for the Reliability of General Multicomponent Systems

Download or read book Evaluating the Confidence Interval for the Reliability of General Multicomponent Systems written by Larry J. Massa and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The combining of components (e.g., diodes, transistors, semiconductors, etc.) into a complex system has presented the problem of estimating the reliability of the entire system with some specified degree of confidence. Various exact and approximate methods exist for very special cases. This paper, however, reviews some of the current simulation procedures and presents a method for solving the more difficult general problem. Three forms of data input are considered. (1) Point estimates of the parameters of the assumed underlying distributions for the component failures may be made from sample data (examples are given for the binomial and exponential distributions). (2) The lower or upper reliability limit (with appropriate confidence level) may be specified for each component with no information about the sample results. (3) A subjective assessment of a prior distribution of component failure times may be given along with (1) above. A Monte Carlo simulation technique, can take any combination of these three types of data input and compute an estimate of the reliability of a simple or complex system with a relatively small error. Book Confidence Interval Estimation of the Reliability of Multicomponent Systems Using Component Test Data

Download or read book Confidence Interval Estimation of the Reliability of Multicomponent Systems Using Component Test Data written by Jerome Richard Johnson and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method is developed for the construction of confidence intervals for a general class of functions of binomial parameters called system reliability functions. These system reliability functions express the reliability of a multicomponent system as a function of the reliabilities of the components of the system. The method derived uses the exact multivariate binomial distribution of component test data. The problem is formulated as a general mathematical programming problem and numerical methods are developed for the solution of the problem. The method is applied to several specific systems and detailed computational procedures are developed for each. The method derived is compared with other currently available methods for constructing confidence intervals for system reliability based on component test data and the results of this comparison indicates the possibility of obtaining and appreciable reduction in the average length of confidence intervals for a given sample size and confidence coefficient by the use of the method of this report. The use of these confidence intervals for the construction of statistical tests of hypotheses concerning system reliability is also discussed. (Author).

Book Reliability Estimation for Multi component Systems

Download or read book Reliability Estimation for Multi component Systems written by James R. Kniss and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A system for obtaining point estimates and confidence interval estimates for very complex multi-component systems has been developed. This method was developed specifically to be used to estimate reliabilities of nuclear warheads where the redundancy of circuits and components complicate normal procedures of reliability estimation. However, the system is highly adaptable to any similar situation where access to high speed electronic computers is available. (Author).

Book Estimation of Reliability in a Multicomponent Stress Strength Model

Download or read book Estimation of Reliability in a Multicomponent Stress Strength Model written by G. K. Bhattacharyya and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A stress-strength model is formulated for s out of k systems consisting of identical components. The authors consider minimum variance unbiased estimation of system reliability for data consisting of a random sample from the stress distribution and one from the strength distribution when the two distributions are related as Lehmann alternatives. The asymptotic distribution is obtained by expanding the unbiased estimate about the maximum likelihood value and establishing their equivalence. Performance of the two estimates for moderate samples is studied by Monte Carlo simulation. Uniformly most accurate unbiased confidence intervals are also obtained for system reliability. (Author).

Book Calculation of Lower Confidence Bounds on System Reliability

Download or read book Calculation of Lower Confidence Bounds on System Reliability written by Joseph V. Michalowicz and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A general methodology, based on algorithms developed by the Ad-Hoc Methodology Working Group on Nuclear Weapons Reliability Assessment, is described for evaluating 90% lower confidence bounds on system reliability for configurations of series/parallel circuits. General configurations of non- repeated and repeated components are examined and a method for unpooling data is discussed. A technique is derived for representing m out of n decision logic gates. The methodology is applied to an example of the type of a sophisticated weapon fuzing system. Maximum likelihood estimates of reliability and 90% lower confidence bounds are calculated for the system and critical components are identified.

Book Approximate Interval Estimation Methods for the Reliability of Systems Using Discrete Component Data

Download or read book Approximate Interval Estimation Methods for the Reliability of Systems Using Discrete Component Data written by Edmundo F. Bellini and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three lower confidence interval estimation procedures for system reliability of coherent systems with cyclic components are developed and their accuracy evaluated by Monte Carlo methods. Each method uses estimates of the ratios of component unreliabilities and the Poisson approximation to the binomial distribution to obtain the equation for the lower confidence limit. This is an extension of a method previously reported in the literature which has been shown to be fairly robust. The procedures developed here can be combined with similar procedures already developed for systems with continuous components. The combined procedure may yield a reasonably accurate lower confidence interval procedure for the reliability of coherent systems with mixtures of continuous and cyclic components.
